Video on Home page
-
Would it be good SEO practice to place a video on the home page? http://villasdiani.com Right in the middle of the home page is a text about Villas Diani, I would like to remove it and rather place there always one of our newest videos which will start play once somebody lands there.
As we are the only one of our competitor who has also videos of property rentals I would like to make out of it an advantage for our website which is not ranking:-(
I am very new to seo and I am very scared to do such move which might even worsen all:-(
I will appreciate any help

Excellent. Thank you for the response.

I would like to ask if somebody know what is the best way to embed video on home page. I read that google does not read i frame.
Also it is a problem if i have featured video on home page with link to post where is again the same video?
Also it is not a problem if I plan to be changing the videos on the home page in period of the time 1-2months?
Also, people can embed video from there, is this not a problem?
Thank you for any advice

These are really good points, Although we have paid vimeo channel where we have videos of properties, which are also on our website, we have also few post with youtube video. I will remove them.
Thank you!

Basically - because in this instance, the video will clearly be very sales and conversion focused, advertising the resorts and service. Such content will do really badly on YouTube, which means it may get devalued by Google and therefore rank badly.
Therefore, you'll have nothing to gain from YouTube here and if you put the video on YouTube you risk YouTube outranking your own domain - for your homepage on a fairly small site like that, this could be disastrous. YouTube is a great place for more informational content that isn't tied to a specific sales funnel, but is a dreadful place to put anything more commercial that you really need your site to rank for.
I've written about these principles in depth here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/hosting-and-embedding-for-video-seo, here http://www.seomoz.org/blog/building-a-video-seo-strategy and here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-marketing-value-of-youtube

Hi Phil,
Great comment. If you don't mind me asking, what are the reasons not to host the video on Youtube vs. a different platform?
-
July, take note here... Phil is the man to listen to regarding video!
I'm throwing my backing behind ensuring that the video doesn't auto-play.
I find generally that if the video does it's job then it helps to keep visitors on the page longer too

Hi July,
Yes - I think it's completely fine to do as you suggest, though I'd recommend seeing if you can leave the text on the page somewhere as well - just so the page isn't too thin on the text front. However, you don't need to put any of those keywords in bold, as Google don't really consider these factors much any more.
One thing I would suggest you think about though is not having the video set to auto-play - as many users find this sort of thing irritating. You should also make sure to host your video away from YouTube in this instance, so use a secure third party platform to serve the video.
Thanks.
Phil

Thank you very much Takeshi. The video would not slow down the site, at least I hope, as it is hosted on our vimeo paid account. I hope that is not a problem.
Thank you very much and have good day!

I don't see why a video would hurt your rankings, as long as it doesn't slow down the load time of your page. Just make sure you have some text content in addition to the video and get high authority, relevant links to your site. Those are the most important factors for ranking.

Video Marketing - Who will host them
Hey guys, I'd like to get going with video marketing and our product best matched with video. I have these things that I am not sure on what direction to take... 1. We have youtube, vimeo and our website. *What goes to what? Or vimeo embedded in website and youtube as is? *A video transcription should be done in the website to help search engines right? *Isnt it duplicate if its in youtube and another one embedded in the site from vimeo? Your thoughts and rationale will be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Jac

Adding Photos vs Page Speed
I need to add more photos to our site, since I believe it'd be a better user experience, but I don't want our page speed to slow down. Is there an optimal size or quality photo parameters that work best for this? If so, is there a site or service someone would recommend over photobucket to get them? Thanks, Ruben

Videos not displaying within YouTube search results (query starting with '@' symbol)
We recently uploaded a video to YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ah0CgZ22NNU) only to realize that it wasn't being displayed within YouTube's internal search results when searched for by the brand name. Our partner's brand name is @WashULaw. If you were to search for @WashULaw on YouTube, you'll notice it returns a 'No Search Results' page (http://screencast.com/t/ZP3SGM5sr). However, when you search for keywords without the @ symbol (i.e. washulaw, wash u law, etc) within YouTube, our video is discovered. However, if you enter the @ symbol within their search bar and choose one of the auto-suggest keywords, you'll notice the query returns video matches (http://screencast.com/t/wkghMhRY). Looking at the view counts of these videos, they appear to be over 100K each. Our video has been indexed by YouTube (http://screencast.com/t/6xV3kW2DHQ6R) and Google (http://screencast.com/t/r4jloA0BpPf). We've even added @WashuLaw as a tag. My question, does anyone have an idea as to why our video isn't displaying when someone searches for our brand @WashULaw with the @ symbol within YouTube's search? ZP3SGM5sr

Local SEO Issue: Google Places Listing on Page 8
Hello, I'm having an issue with a client's Google Places listing. It's showing on page 8 for one of the main keyword terms but their main site is on page 1. Having looked into competitors' places listings ranking above, I've ruled out the following; lack of citations inconsistent citations incomplete profile incorrect category listing details not matching places landing page incorrect location and any form of keyword stuffing Other places listings ranking above have fewer citations, incomplete profiles, details inconsistent with their main site, one is no longer trading as a business and one has no website! In the past, our client had had two listings simultaneously but we addressed this waaaay back. Is it possible we could still be getting punished? I'm at a bit of a loss otherwise. Any thoughts would be hugely appreciated. Thankyou!

Consolidating mulitple Google+ Local pages with one Google+ Page
Hello All, I have trawled the internet, but can seem to find the answer to this question: "How will Google integrate multiple Google+ Local pages with one Google+ Page?" A bit of background to this. I work for a company that started online, but has since moved into retail stores. We currently have 14 stores around the UK. Now each of these stores has a Google+ Local page which were automatically converted over from the old style Google Places pages. I have read that these pages should be integrated with our regular Google+ account. All of the examples I have read about seem to relate to offline businesses that have moved into online, rather than online business that have moved into physical retails stores. And these examples are just one store, one Googe+ Local listing & one Google+ business page. That seems simple enough... but what about multiple locations?! Do I just need to sit on my hands and see what happens? Or are there things I can be doing now? Cheers for any help! Rich

Embedded Video Sharing Count As Links?
I am considering using Wistia as a video platform to host video content I don't want listed on YouTube. One of the features they have (I bet they all do) is to allow other webmasters to embed the video on their site as well. If a webmaster embed's one of my Wistia videos on their site, do I get link juice? ...or is this only helpful to help spread branding?
