Is there a content ratio that google looks for?
-
What i mean by this is:
If i have a 1000 page ecommerce site that has say 10 pages of good quality content (1% good content) and a competitive site that has 100 pages of good content (10% good content) and another that has 500 (50%). if they are all almost the same in every other way the 50% content site would win hands down. however this is not always possible to have so much good content on some types of site.
The question is:
- Is there a min percentage to aim for?
- Also is there a similar min rate of content production to aim for.
- Is their a kind of tipping point to get past that google will think they are doing things right i should keep an eye on them!

Mark,
One of the mistakes I believe people make on e-commerce sites is a lack of content. I would not look at a percentage I would look at how many potential searches you can pick up with each page you add. If you have social media set up look at the benefits of marketing this content through these platforms. An area people often forget is Video and picture content. This may be a good way to show up on searches your competitors are not showing up on.
If you have competitors you want to get click share from you might want to look at Spyfu. Their recon files program will allow you to see the key words and content that is actually getting clicks. They also have another tool that lets you look at your competitors paid advertising over time to see how their advertising has evolved. This might give you some good clues on your on line messaging and/or ideas for your own advertising or other marketing campaigns.
Hope this helps,
Ron

I was hoping for a yes it's X and if you do Y etc answer.
However I expected the answer you gave.
My competetors are pretty crap when it comes to seo and sem however they have massive brand awareness in inch sector. They get high direct traffic making it hard to beat them. However I hope to have everyone's share not just my fair share! however its easy to plan, not so easy to do.
Theire really is no exact answers in this industry.

I am shoveling as much coal as I can, as fast as I can and have been doing this for years.
The answer to your question is.... It depends who you are competing against. If your SERPs are full of aggressive websites then you will have your work cut out for you. But, if you are in sleepy SERPs you might be able to work at an enjoyable pace. And, it also depends if you want all of the apples or are happy with just a few.
Is their a kind of tipping point to get past that google will think they are doing things right i should keep an eye on them!
I think that if you catch Google's eye in this way then you are going to make a big pile of money.

Google Authorship and the "Fishkin" Outburst! Sorry Rand ;)
Should companies now shift away from creating great content and invest the time and money into something else? After Rand tweeted his frustration at @JohnMu in relation to "Authorship CTR's", it got me thinking - should we really be blogging as much as we should? https://twitter.com/randfish/status/481948721031024641 I'm certain Google ditched author profile images to improve "mobile UX" and "CTR's" for "paid advertisers". So what I would really like to know is - should small businesses continue to focus on developing great content? How has your marketing strategy changed?

How to fight against a site always "re-write" your content?
A site is always copying our content then re-write to their site, how to fight against this kind of action? (Many of those copied content can get a rank very closely behind us, which will grab some of our visits ) I tried to find DMCA, but as they have changed some paragraphes, etc, DMCA can't punish them as copying. I think many of you also have met such a problem, how will you handle this situation??

2 URLs pointing to exactly the same content
Hi guys As far as I know if you have 2 websites with exactly the same (100%) content with 2 URLs which are not pointing to any other URL should attract penalisation from google, right? well, there is such a case and it was online for long time but the bad guys are in top of organic search and it does not seem to bother google at all! I don't want to list them here; it is extremely annoying and frustrating as I worked hard to get in higher search but seeing this thing is extremely frustrating! any advice on this? thanks

Duplicate content problems, so why does WordPress post onto Tumblr?
Hi Everyone, Basically I know that if you have duplicate content your ranking is effected! This I understand, so why is it that WordPress has the option to post your blog entry straight onto your paired Tumblr account? Surely if this can be done, I can have the same content on the company website but also on WP and Tumblr? Or is there some sort of method to how it works specifically for those 2 websites? Thanks in advance.

Someone wants to syndicate my content but I'm afraid
I GOT THE FOLLOWING EMAIL: Hi, I visited your site and would like to connect regarding nSphere syndicating your content into our search platform. We are interested in syndicating your content into our network. There’s no cost for this, we ask you to place a module on your site that reads your content and syndicates it into our network of millions of users. You only need to place a simple JavaScript code on your site. I have the code, but I would like to speak or email with you first. This module acts as search tool for your users as well. Can you email me or send me your number and a good day/time to connect? Thank you in advance.

Director of Media Integration I'M AFRAID OF DUPLICATE CONTENT. SHOULD I JUST IGNORE THIS; IS IT SPAM; OR COULD THIS BE AN OPPORTUNITY? I'M THINKING I SHOULD BE SUSPICIOUS OF THE FACT THAT HE DIDN'T EVEN PROVIDE A URL.0 -

Content issue
Hi, Quick question; I have set up a micro site in which i was going to take some of the content from my reviews and recipes my customers have posted and have them placed on my other site. The site i currently have is a large site receiving over 200,00 visitors every day. Will this be affected as duplicate content if i was to do this as i do not want to affect my rankings. Any suggestions what i can do to get round this? Cheers
