Does Length Matter... In Videos
-
Hi,
Are there any facts, opinions or anecdotal evidence to suggest that a video on YouTube has to have at least x length to rank as a result in Google?
Everything else being exactly equal, is a 20 second video about as likely to rank as 2 minute video?
Thanks! Best...Mike

On that level, brevity might be a plus... easier to watch 20 seconds than two minutes.

Length may not directly be a factor. They do look at full views of videos. Compare it to bounce rate. You want the viewer to watch the entire video, 20 seconds or 2 minutes.

I have not read any studies about length and how Google evaluates the video. I believe that Google learns about the video from how visitors respond to it. Do they visit the video page? Do they start the video?
-
The only evidence I've seen of longer being more valuable is in how transcripts are treated. A longer transcript will garner higher value if the video is crafted to target specific keyword phrases, just as a well crafted page of written content will be more likely to outperform a much shorter page on the same topic.
As for videos themselves, I haven't seen any specific case studies on the topic. Would make a great case study for you to do and write about! I'd definitely link to it!

Hi,
Thanks for the message.
I agree, certainly from a users point of view. Any evidence Google likes it longer?

You have probably heard this one before....
"Short enough to be interesting... but long enough to cover all of the details"

Canonicals from sub-domain to main domain: How much content relevancy matters? Any back-links impact?
Hi Moz community, I have this different scenario of using canonicals to solve the duplicate content issue in our site. Our subdomain and main domain have similar landing pages of same topics with content relevancy about 50% to 70%. Both pages will be in SERP and confusing users; possibly search engine too. We would like solve this by using canonicals on subdomain pointing to main domain pages. Even our intention is to only to show main domain pages in SERP. I wonder how Google handles it? Will the canonicals will be respected with this content relevancy? What happens if they don't respect? Just ignore or penalise for trying to do this? Thanks

When Google is going to penalise webpages with autoplaying videos?
Hi, One of the most disgusting experiences while browsing web pages is the auto playing anonymous and highly non relevant ad videos at some corner of the page which buffer mostly and automatically plays. There are familiar websites which been following this activity. I don't think Google has ever rolled out an update to penalise these. Any idea why? Thanks

Keywords in Paragraphs: How much do they matter at Google?
Hi all, Generally we care a lot about keywords at headings, title tags, URL, etc. always. But I wonder how much impact they have being in paragraphs. How much do they matter at paragraphs? Thanks

Do the referring domains matter a lot in back-links? Google's stand?
Hi, It's a known fact about quality of back-links than quantity. Still domains are heavily different from links. Multiple domains are huge comparing to multiple links. Taking an average, how much does 'number of referring domains" boost website authority? I am not speaking about low quality domains, just number of domains including which are irrelevant to the topic or industry. Thanks

Does it matter? 404 v.s. 302 > Page Not Found
Hey Mozers, What are your thoughts of this situation i'm stuck in all inputs welcome 🙂 I am in the middle of this massive domain migration to a new server. Also we are going to be having a very clean SEO friendly url structure. While I was doing some parsing and cleaning up some old urls I stumbled upon a strange situation on my website. I have a bunch of "dead pages" and they are 302'd to a "page not found" probably a old mistake of one of the past developers. (To clarify the HTTP Status code is not 404) Should I try to fight to get all these "dead pages" a 404 error code or could I just leave the temp redirect 302 > "page not found" ( even though I know for a fact theses pages are not going to turn on again)

Did Google update the length of characters allowed in Meta Description?
Hey all, I do SEO. I'm currently working with another SEO firm on a project. The lady mentioned to me that Google recently updated (couple months ago) and changed their font causing them to lower the meta description to 55 characters. Is this true? I have not heard of this. Could she be confusing the meta description with the title tag? I didn't know Google could have even update the Title tag too.

Does word order matter for exact match bonus?
Hello, For a two word search does order of the two words matter to get the exact match seo bonus? For example, would matchexact.com get the same SEO bonus as exactmatch.com? I Googled many two word searches reversing the word order and I got the exact same search results suggesting order does not matter (yes I am assuming people are just doing a broad search) Thoughts? Thanks!

Duplicate videos
We have multiple screen cast videos being made that are the same all except for city names being switched out. Does anyone know if this might be frowned upon by Google in the same way that duplicate content is?
