Best way to measure local search keyword rank
-
I have several clients that have a regional or local presence and want to track their rankings for various keywords, but only in the areas they are located in. What are the best ways to track keyword rank in specific locations or regions of the US?

Hey there! I know it's an older thread, but wanted to let you know we're now able to track local rankings. We wrote a blog post about it at http://moz.com/blog/local-rankings-in-moz-analytics.

The question is specifically about rank tracking by region—not traffic by region.

You can use filters in Google Analytics to only show traffic broken down by keyword in specific Cities, States, Metros, Continents, etc.
Use this symbol - | - to insert multiple criteria into the same filter (for example, if you wanted to group a bunch of cities - "Chicago|New York|San Francisco|Anchorage."

You would have to use some kind of rank tracking software independent of Moz. Maybe as a feature add-on with Moz analytics they will eventually roll out that functionality (fingers crossed).
It seems like it's in poor taste to recommend competitors here... but nonetheless, Whitespark has a local rank tracker (though there is a wait list for sign ups) and Advanced Web Ranking allows you to specify rank by location. The drawback of AWR is that you'd have to configure a ton of stuff on your own and run the rank checks on your own (which means you're going to need at a bare minimum at least 5-10 proxies). That usually spooks most people off.
Last, you could actually get a very real picture by extracting the CD parameter using filters in analytics and then throw in Region or City as a secondary dimension. That wouldn't give you your average regional rank for particular keywords, though. It would give you the ranking on clickthrough from the SERPs.

The best way to track internal links in Google Analytics
Hi there, we are a retail business and we have invested in quality editorial content which sits in our Blog at ourwebsite.co.uk/blog/ The Blog links to the main site (an online store) and I want to track the 'value' of the blog by how many clicks the blog content generates back to the main store. At the moment we're using this code on the end of every link in the Blog: ?utm_source=Blog&utm_medium=Widget&utm_campaign=FromBlog Does this affect SEO and is there a better way of doing it? Thanks.

Differences in site search revenue in GA
I just put in a piece of software to replace a really bad built in site search engine on my 3dcart website. Now I am trying to measure the change, but I am having some issues. When I check the ecom data in the conversions section of GA with the built in segment Performed Site Search, I get promising results. Approximately 5% revenue increase over LY. But if we jump to behavior, site search, usage, and then check the visits with site search, I get a decrease by 4%. And the actual revenue is off, by like double (150k compared to 80k) Anyone have any idea why I am getting these results? The site search function is set up. Tracking is enabled, query parameter is keyword and search url is /search.asp?keyword=

Can not divide in different properties a domain in Search Console (Webmaster Tools)
Dear Moz Community, I hope you can give me a hand with the following questions. Im in charge of SEO of an ecommerce site in LATAM. It´s service is available in several countries, therefore each country has it subdirectory Eg. /ar /pe /co /bo /cl /br,etc... (in the future we will move to differente ccTLDs). I have been recomended to split or create different Search Console or Webmaster Tools properties (one for each subdirectory) but when Im creating a new property with a subdirectory, lets say www.domain.com/ar, Webmaster tools starts creating a property for www.domain.com/ar/ (NOTICE THE LAST SLASH) and it returns since that page doesn´t exist, what do you recomend me to do? Best wishes, Pablo Lòpez C

Traffic by keyword- phenomenon
I have several keywords that seem to bring visitors in but when I look at my rankings it shows that I have no ranking authority at all. Are these just robots or some non human click? Or how do I even get these visitors?

Keyword Diversity: What Does it Mean?
I recently read this awesome article by Ian Lurie on the Portent blog: http://www.portent.com/blog/analytics/seo-analytics-middle-earth-style.htm However, I keep getting stumped by what he means under the "Grade Yourself" section by "keyword diversity." Of course, I've tried to ask him, but he hasn't yet responded. Besides, I like to get the opinion of the SEOMoz crowd anyway. So what is "keyword diversity"? Is it the total number different link texts out there linking to my site? The total number of keywords I'm actively tracking and optimizing for? The total number of phrases for which I rank in a Google search engine (if it's even possible to know that)? Thanks, Benjamin

Why do I get lots of traffic from a bizarre keyword?
Bit of an odd one but I've been getting a large and steady stream of traffic over the last few months from a very random keyword that according to addwords figures shows "on data". Its our second biggest referring term only beaten by our brand name. We get more traffic from this term than keywords we have invested a lot of time in that show thousands of traffic volume in addwords. When looking at behavioral data its gets odder, a bounce rate of 98.11% time on site 2 seconds and page visits 1.02. So this traffic isn't real traffic and it's not real people. So my questions are, what is it? why do we get this random traffic, has anyone els noticed things like this and is it a problem? I presume it must be something to do with some sort of spam but apart from that i'm stumped. It's just one of those things that has been bugging me so I would appreciate any help. Kind Regards Paul
