Links from my homepage
-
I am redesigning my homepage completely. What criteria should I use to decide which pages to link to from the homepage?
-
This is a huge question and the answer depends upon the type of site that you have. Retail sites might focus on popular products, new products, special sale products, most profitable products.
You basically want to show visitors the things that they might find most interesting but at the same time link to things that you want visitors to discover.

In my opinion this should be far more focussed on what a visitors wants to see here instead of what a search robot should encounter.
Make sure your main navigation is search engine friendly (no images, flash, javascript etc) so that all your main pages are linked there. You could choose to link to some of your latest or best articles (to show your visitors that your website is up-to-date), include some testimonials (to show you're credible). Perhaps in your footer you could include some partners (keep it natural), your privacy policy and terms of use?
Try asking your usability testers what they think should be on the main page and work from there.

Locating broken links on site?
Hey guys, I'm using Screaming Frog to help locate some broken links on a client's site and I've managed to pick up two. However, I can't seem to find whereabouts they're located on the site in order to fix them! Is there a way I can do this? Cheers!

Keyword at homepage
Hi there, this is the url of my homepage: http://www.sehaidoyamama.com/piensapiensa/ PiensaPiensa is not my keyword. I have selected a keyword to optimize the homepage. Does anyone know how to include the keyword in the url of the homepage? I tried to do it in the "pages" section of wordpress but I wasn't able to do it. The home page doesn't allow to change the url. Is it important to set up a keyowrd in the url of the homepage? Is it appropiate from the usability perspective? Thanks

Too many on page links - created by filters
I have an ecommerce site and SEOmoz "Crawl Diagnostics Summary" points out that I have too many hyperlinks on most of my pages. The most recent thing I've done that could the culprit is the creation of number product filters. Each filter I put on the page is creating a hyperlink off that page. As an example, there's a filter available for manufacturers. Under that, there are 8 new filter links, thus new hyperlinks. On one category there are 60 new links created because of filters. I feel like these filters have made the user experience on the site better BUT has dramatically increased the number of outbound links off the page. I know keeping it to under 100 is a rule-of-thumb but at the same time there must be some validity to trying to limit them. Do you have any recommendation on how I can "have my cake and eat it too?" Thanks for any help!

Cannibalizing link
this is what the reports states :Cannibalizing link"Red & Color Roses", "Red roses", "Black Baccara Roses\rBlack And Red Roses\rStarting at: $ 0.72 per Rose", "Black Magic Rose\rDark Red Black Rose\rStarting at: $ 0.96 per Rose", "Forever Young Roses\rRed Rose Flowers\rVelvety Deep Red\rStarting at: $ 1.16 per Rose", "Freedom Roses\rRed Rose\rStarting at: $ 0.66 ¢ per Rose", "Madame Delbard\rRed Wedding Rose\rStarting at: $ 0.66 per Rose", "Night Fever Roses\rTraditional Roses\rRomantic Red Roses\rStarting at: $ 0.66 per Rose", and "Red Paris Roses\rDark Red Rose\rStarting at: $ 0.72 per Rose"ExplanationIt's a best practice in SEO to target each keyword with a single page on your site (sometimes two if you've already achieved high rankings and are seeking a second, indented listing). To prevent engines from potentially seeing a signal that this page is not the intended ranking target and creating additional competition for your page, we suggest staying away from linking internally to another page with the target keyword(s) as the exact anchor text. Note that using modified versions is sometimes fine (for example, if this page targeted the word 'elephants', using 'baby elephants' in anchor text would be just fine).RecommendationUnless there is intent to rank multiple pages for the target keyword, it may be wise to modify the anchor text of this link so it is not an exact match. the questions is then why having those links on that page hurts, when we need the links to take the costumer to the color of red roses they want.

Link anchor text in list menus
Obviously Google likes descriptive anchor text. At least the first version on the page. But suppose you had a list of scrap yard depots on a hover site menu, would you go for the person friendly nested list, so Scrap Yard Depots Newcastle Chester Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch Or the presumably more Google friendly; Scrap Yard Depots Newcastle Scrap Yard Chester Scrap Yard Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch Scrap Yard

I am using the WP platform for my website and on one of the widgets I have a category widget that shows all the pages, (on every page). I wanted to know that when if i make a new post or page does it matter if the internal anchor texts are on the content itself or is it suffice to have it on the side bar within the widget? Basically what im asking is does it matter if i have anchor text links on the content itself or is it ok to have it anywhere on the page. and if it does matter to have it on the content, please help out on any suggestions on where to place them. thanks

Navigation Links in Footer
What are your thoughts about navigation links in the footer? For example: www.chasepaymentech.com - good, bad, or indifferent for SEO?
