What is the absolute strongest way to increase domain authority?
-
I'm asking for specific techniques and or examples. I have been link building strong links from related websites and yet my DA has fallen two points in a month.
-
Your DA fluctuates over time and you may have gotten hit by Google's "Hummingbird" search engine update.
For links, I'd recommend
1. Posting on forums with your website in the signature line and legitimately respond to questions with good answers, as opposed to spam responses
2. Post new website content to social media with links
3. Take a look at where your competitors are getting links and trying getting a link from the same source
4. Write content for other websites via being a guest host and put a link to your website on the article

DA fluctuates Jonathan, OSE might not have registered all your links and I would not get too hung up about it. For one of my websites I have had for instance in the last months 68, 65, 64, 62, 64, 66, 64. My sites are pretty strong and about 10% make up .gov and .edu root domain links but are pretty well fixed this year.
Ultimately I don't get hung up on DA much. Also I would use Freshweb explorer and reach out to sites that are mentioning you to develop better links with them.
Best
David

Honestly, OpenSiteExplorer gives the fewest links of any site I check including webmaster tools. Webmaster Tools shows twice as many links as OSE, and no its not showing them, Roots or Total links.
-
Is OpenSiteExplorer showing those new links you acquired? If OSE hasn't detected the links yet, they won't affect your DA.
If yes, check to see if you lost links from other sites and had a net loss, thus the drop in DA.

301 passing authority?
Does anyone have experience of 301's in connection with SEO or more specifically passing authority? Recently purchased a small business that had three small websites. My main concern is all three websites do rank for some fairly important key phrases, but there is very little direct overlap. I was hoping by using 301's I would be able to refocus the authority to get the main site ranking.

Best way to approach a contributor.
Hello, Let's say I have got contact details of a contributor of ABC.com and the domain authority of this domain is 83 and the website is very relevant to my website. What sort of words I need to use to approach the contributor? Last time I sent the following message to a contributor and never heard from him. Hello John, My name is Blah blah, I have been reading some posts that you have written on ABC.com and was very impressed with your work. I was just wondering if you are able to write about our website on ABC.com and let me know what will be the cost of this project? Is that not a good approach? If not, what you reckon is a good approach and please mention the words. Thanks!

Massive Jump In Competitor Domain Authority In 1 year...How?!
We have noticed a competitor of one of our clients has leapfrogged massively in terms of their Domain Authority, Links, actually pretty much everything in the space of a year. We have been working diligently with our client building up a solid seo strategy based on content and organic link backs, but we're at a loss of how to try and explain the gains by the competitor over them. I have attached the competitor analysis from April 2012 and Feb 2013 below. Any help, ideas, conspiracy theories etc. are welcome! Thanks RQXM5Pp

Domain Authority and Page Authority down - Change of Server
Dear All, Today I noticed that our page authority and domain authority is down, and the number of linking domains is also down. We do not have too many linking domains to our site, but at least one blogger link to us, with a very nice article about our site (since some months ago) and this link does not appear in the site explorer (follow link). This blog is well indexed by google, but impossible to see using open site explorer for some reason unknown to me; and two pages we helped, and they link also to us (follow links): their links appear in the webmaster tools, but not in the site explorer. Neither the blog nor those two pages were in the site explorer before, the links that were removed are from other sources (SEO analisys pages, automatic generated when I run a test by them, so I supossed not high quality links at all, not content related, we don't miss them). Our site was partially down for 1 1/2 day this week due change of server, from a shared hosting to a VPS. Now all pages are up again, and we are improving everything, working really hard (almost no sleep at all in two days). Could it also have something to do with the lower domain authority? How bad penalized google the time down of a domain? How long will we feel the effects of that? Listing published in our site are ranking exactly as before, but I am afraid this could change in the near future. Since the end of December (not directly related to my question), we do not have this nice snipped showing the main pages of our site, when we writte the exact domain name in google. At the time, we did not any change, and this did not affect the listings ranking (they even improved in some cases); we rank better for the main keyword, so the snipped changed, without other problems. So, the questions: Have made site explorer any change in the last days, to discard low quality links? Could be the lower domain authority related to the down time of our site? How long can be felt the effects of the down time in google results? Is it something that can be felt forever? =( Do you have any idea why google decides in some cases to remove the site links in the snipped? General question, I know it is not possible to answer it for any specific domain without looking at it. We would like to have those links again. Is there something we can do in order site explorer visit that blog I mentioned? I will try to crawl it using the dashboard to see what happen. Many thanks for your help! Daniel

Sort of lost my way - Links, SEO
Not sure where to start with this so please bare with me. I do the SEO for our company website (we're a small family business), I'm not an SEO'er by profession (I'm a carpenter/joiner) but been doing our site for ten or so years. About 12 months ago sort of let go of work & web things a bit due to very sudden family bereavement which kind of hit me hard. So when I did get back into doing bits on our site I probably then concentrated a little bit too much on content building rather than going after links etc. As a result we've dropped in the SERPS a bit, but having said that still just about clinging within the top ten for our terms. Since I've started again we've had Panda/Penguin and I'm a little unsure how to go about getting links in, most of my competitors are using things like blog commenting (just random blogs that are do follow) , recip linking (any sites as long as they give a link!) etc basically things that long term will hold no value long term (or possibly none even to begin with). All this brand stuff leaves me at a loss, we're a small family business as our the majority of our competitors so not 100% sure that the branding stuff I'm reading about is relevant? As I say I've got some pretty decent content, some of which I am trying to push with mixed results – we're not in a very sexy niche so not much chance of it picking up links naturally! Another thing I am noticing is in my niche I don't think any SEO companies are involved with my competitors, most of our competitors are ranking their home pages for every single related search term, whilst I've have always tried to create a page for each search term and I have these pages ranking. For example my main search term, lets say 'wooden doors' I rank an internal page for this term whilst everyone else seems to rank homepages. I'm finding it hard to get new links into this page, so one idea I do have is elsewhere on my site I have a guide to fitting the doors (with videos, pictures and text) so what I'm thinking is place this guide on my 'wooden doors' page making it a bit more linkable (it's fairly new and not yet gained any links, so no loss to move it) and would also mean a variation of anchor text. A good idea do you think? Some of my other content has been linked to by colleges in the UK, unfortunately all the links are behind moodle log-ins (give me a decent link you leeches! Lol) ! I am thinking of getting in touch with other colleges to see if the content would be useful, but actually getting hold of the person responsible for the subject is proving difficult! I've also done a bit of guest blogging, however I'm torn between writing decent stuff for our blog or giving it away (I wouldn't like to give something away thats poor, ok or doesn’t make sense) to other blogs. Sorry for the ramble (if you've made it this far then thanks for reading!)! Would appreciate all advice. Ultimately would love to get an SEO'er involved but looking around the good un's are out of our price range so I may seek some training as it may prove more beneficial.

What value do external broken links give to a domain?
I ask, as I've just used opensite explorer to look at external links a competitor has, and I've found the high value ones at the top of the list go to a page that no longer exists on their site. Are these stiill of value in the SERP's, or have they messed up by not putting a 301 redirect on them?

Blogroll links vs. in author's byline
So, I have the following dilemma. I have certain amount on my budget and I'm thinking where to invest it better. Would you recommend obtaining blogroll links or focus on links that put in author's byline (for instance when you write a guest post). Could you also explain why you think so? 🙂 Thanks beforehand.
