Translated version of meta description showing in SERPs
-
Hi all,
When a search for our brand is done, the homepage is shown but the meta description is in French. We have a translated version of the site available once the user is on the site, but there's no reason it should be displaying the translated version in the SERPs. This issue has never happened before and began last week. Anyone seen anything similar?

Thanks.

I suggest you to dig into the possible issues Dirk is talking about, especially if there are some JavaScript and cookies on the works.
In fact, I have seen several cases where a not perfect JavaScript use may end up screwing things.
i.e.: I go to domain.com - english - and then go to its russian version - domain.ru - from the selector and then go back to domain.com, but now the version I see is the russian in domain.ru because of bad JScript and cookie management.

The issue you have is quite similar to the issue you had previously https://moz.com/community/q/sitelinks-issue-different-languages - the same answers apply.
When I check the cached version of the .com version I get the French site
Personally I think you're IP detection system is messing things up. Checking your headers (from Belgium) I get this:
|
HTTP/1.1 302 Found
http://www.revolveclothing.com/ HTTP/1.1 302 Found
http://www.revolveclothing.com/?nrv=true HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently
http://www.revolveclothing.fr/r/Homepage.jsp?nrv=true HTTP/1.1 200 OK

Am I wrong saying that the french will be shown specifically for people in France? I mean, there are french-canadians, belgium, african countries, etc. I'm not sure it is necessary in this case? If the hreflangs are in place, I believe it should be enough.
Otherwise there is a strange thing happening with your URLs when switching languages with the top right tool. When you are on the homepage and switch languages, the URL doesn't change, but the content does.
When I'm on http://www.revolveclothing.com/content/hotlist in English
And switch to French = http://www.revolveclothing.com/content/hotlist
When I switch to Spanish http://www.revolveclothing.com/content/hotlist.Would it be part of the problem? Maybe it is worth troubleshooting. If it's not clear which version is which.
If it's the French version that Google wants to show, it should be the http://www.revolveclothing.fr. Not the .com

Hi Jarred,
Issues like this are usually connected to hrefang tag. I noticed you've got those in place, but the country element is missing. Try updating your American (.com) and French (.fr) hreflang tags to the following:
The additional specificity might be what you need to override that mistake by Google and get your meta descriptions back to normal. Hopefully this works, as I didn't see anything else on either TLD that would cause this.

Not only metadata is in French - whole homepage is in French!:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Acm7RY_EpzEJ:www.revolveclothing.com/&hl=en&gl=bg&strip=1&vwsrc=0Seems that bot index this content in French. You need to go in SearchConsole and reindex this page and put to index.

Only the mobile version of the site is being indexed
We've got an interesting situation going on at the moment where a recently on-boarded clients site is being indexed and displayed, but it's on the mobile version of the site that is showing in serps. A quick rundown of the situation. Retail shopping center with approximately 200 URLS Mobile version of the site is www.mydomain.com/m/ XML sitemap submitted to Google with 202 URLs, 3 URLS indexed Doing site:www.mydomain.com in a Google search brings up the home page (desktop version) and then everything else is /m/ versions. There is no rel="canonical" on mobile site pages to their desktop counterpart (working on fixing that) We have limited CMS access, but developers are open to working with us on whatever is needed. Within desktop site source code, there are no "noindex, nofollow, etc" issues on the pages. No manual actions, link issues, etc Has anyone ever encoutnered this before? Any input or thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

meta robots no follow on page for paid links
Hi I have a page containing paid links. i would like to add no follow attribute to these links
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Kung_fu_Panda
but from technical reasons, i can only place meta robots no follow on page level (
is that enough for telling Google that the links in this page are paid and and to prevent Google penlizling the sites that the page link to? Thanks!0 -
Why is this SERP displaying an incorrect URL for my homepage?
The full URL of a particular site's homepage is something like http://www.example.com/directory/.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | TheEspresseo
The canonical and og URLs match.
The root domain 301 redirects to it using the absolute path. And yet the SERP (and the cached version of the page) lists it simply as http://www.example.com/. What gives? Could the problem be found at some deeper technical level (.htaccess or DirectoryIndex or something?) We fiddled with things a bit this week, and while our most recent changes appear to have been crawled (and cached), I am wondering whether I should give it some more time before I proceed as if the SERP won't ever reflect the correct URL. If so, how long? [EDIT: From the comments, see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8QKIweOzH4#t=2838]0 -
Massive SERP crash
I came in this morning to a swath of email updates from Moz. Our site had jumped in ranking in the four geographic regions we target and we were seeing (more or less) the best results we've ever had. Most of the jumps were only 1 - 4 places but they were for our most competitive keywords. Late this afternoon I did some spot checks on keywords to confirm that we were still holding roughly in the same positions and before I reported this to the wider business. We're not. What's more we have dropped off the first page for some terms and don't seem to be ranked at all for for others. The only keywords we're getting good rankings for are branded search terms. I can only assume this is due to a technical issues over the weekend our developers caused. I'm not completely across this but I at some point our sitemaps stopped working and a huge number of links on the site were broken. Could a massive surge in 404s cause this? I'm checking google analytics and I can't see a drop in organic traffic yet although I don't have the full figures for today. Thanks

Google is not honoring my descriptions
I finally got our title tags honored and now Google is just making the descriptions whatever it wants. This is happening on pretty much every one of our pages. An example: http://www.sqlsentry.com/products/plan-explorer/sql-server-query-view SERPS = SQL Server MVP Aaron Bertrand shares a demo kit for Plan Explorer to give you better insight into the advantages of the tool, and to help you share its virtues ... Description tag = SQL Sentry Plan Explorer is a free query plan analysis tool that will allow you to find the most expensive operators by CPU, I/O, or both. I can see the description tag when I view source so I know that it is pulling it from the table correctly. What can I do to fix this?

Lol - 3 pages of videos on SERPs
Google: "back to school supplies haul" I thought this was really epic and first time I've ever seen such a results page. No ads, no text results. Anyone else seen this? -First post on new Moz design.

Google showing me a 404 link from an external source?
In my list of 404 errors from Google webmaster I have one with the "linked from" section showing an external link. This seems like a broken link (which obviously I will try and fix to get the link juice) but why would Google recognize it as a 404? From Google: | URL: | www.broken URL | | | Error details | In Sitemaps | Linked from | | <colgroup><col></colgroup>
