Optimizing an e-commerce website
-
Hi,
What do you recommend me to optimice an e-commerce website to rank every page or product?
Do I have to implement schema and meta description for every product or is easier to optimice every category?
-
Hi Patrick, Thanks!
Excellent answer, only a doubt about Schema, If every product is refreshing every month what happened with that information or could be a dynamic information for Schema?
-
BuiltVisible also has a great and very comprehensive guide to meta data and schema.
-
Great answer! I'll add our Search Ranking Factors to the list.

Hi there
I definitely recommend Schema on every product, as well as breadcrumbs, reviews, and also site search which helps for Sitelinks search boxes. It also helps inform your Google Analytics.
Here are a couple of great resources:

Hope this helps! Good luck!

301 redirects. If new website is a different business does it still send link authority?
Hi Guys. I'm a music producer and studio owner. I want to start a new business for online music mixing. Instead of starting from scratch I want to use a 301 redirect from my previous site that has built up a little authority over the years. However, the old site is purely for my music studio, there is no mention of online mixing services. Will Google consider this 'odd'? Pass less link juice? Or perhaps pass no authority at all if Google 'decides' the 2 business are unrelated? Cheers in advance guys. Isaac.

Is Disqus as good for SEO as a built in comment system on your website?
Disqus is a simple tool you can use to easily get comments up and running on your website. Does it have the same value as a built in comment feature such as a Wordpress blog or does Google not attribute the Disqus comments to the websites content as it would for Wordpress?

Corporate Re-Branding, How to best lead into new website?
I have a company that is going to be moving away from a name they have had for 40 years, into a name they have had for the past 10. They are becoming a bigger brand in Canada and want to move away from the west coast name. http://www.wcmachinery.net/ is becoming obsolete. http://shearforce.ca/ will be taking over for both sites. Both of the websites are identically built by a previous web company. The current root domain metrics are shown in the image provided. What do you Mozzers feel would be the best way to phase out the old site without losing the little bit of domain authority wcmachinery.net has gained? west coast machinery is also well know to its customers, so getting the branded search traffic to the shearforce site is also a priority. I am fairly certain this can be handled easily in the about page where it explains the relationship between the two companies. As a side note I have not performed any SEO work on either site as of yet. So please do not judge me based on this site! Thanks for your insights, Randy edit edit

How quickly should I change/edit sites to avoid potential over optimization penalty?
Regard today's White Board, I'm wondering how quickly one should start changing title tags, page content, footer links, etc. on sites? I operate a few different sites and some of them definitely have things that need to be changed. Would it be weird or trigger something in Google if all the sites were changed in 24 - 48 hours? Thanks for your help!

How long would it take for On-Page Optimization to have an effect on Google Rankings?
Hi there, I have a page on our website with an Interview with the author Tess Gerritsen. There has been a reasonable amount of Social Media buzz related to the page and lots of links. According to SEOMoz we are an A grade for the keyword Tess Gerritsen, we currently rank 29th on Google.co.uk for a 'tess gerritsen' search. My question is - how long would it take for any new changes to have an effect? I presume the answer would be whenever the page is crawled again. But is it wise to change one thing, then get crawled and see what the effect is, then the next day change something else and see what the effect is. Or is it wise to change one thing and then leave it a week or so to see the full effect of the change? Apologies for the vague question, if you need any more clarification just let me know. Thanks. Benj

Title optimization best practices for clients with insanely long business names
How do others utilize keywords and preserve branding in the title tag for clients with a REALLY long name? Two examples. Example 1: Business name is 38 characters long in the following format: [Firstname] [initial] [Lastname] [Businesstype] Services 38 characters is workable, but the keywords for what he offers and this industry in general are long too. He abbreviates to his initials in the domain name - I don't love doing that as the acronym has a meaning of its own. (We unintentionally acquired at least one very amusing if useless backlink thanks to that.) Leaving off "Services" saves a few characters. Example 2: Business name totals 58 characters and references their two related lines of business. Similar to: Rogers Institute of Robotic Studies and RIRS Robot Repair

or (saves a few characters)
Rogers Institute of Robotic Studies and Robot Repair How would you handle that? Use the appropriate half of the name on pages related to that particular LOB? Only use the brand on some pages? Abbreviate more? I've been using their full name on the more "general" pages of the site and omitting it in favor of keywords on the more specific pages . Suggestions? Other ideas?1
