I use my website for providing an international service, I made my URL structure website
https://example.com/destinations/africa/country
destinations is a category and Africa is a sub-category
I made an article for every continent and inserted all the continent's country manually, the page url structure is
https://example.com/destinations/africa/
and the continent category URL is
https://example.com/category/destinations/africa/
I'm thinking about removing the continent article and strip the category Word from URL, So i will use the subcategories directly on the same link
https://example.com/destinations/africa/
what's your advice about removing the continent article and using the sub categories instead? is it a good idea to use the child category as a reference for the internal links? what do you think about keeping both of them (child category and the Article)?
in case you suggest to use the child category , Is removing Category word may hurt my SEO?

Hey,
The rule of fist is that readability is the most important aspect of your URL. The /category/ folder does not add to relevance, neither does it make the URL easier to read. I would therefore say it's better to remove the folder. I guess you don't use the /category/ folder as a page itself and have the visitor land on /destinations/ right away?
As long as the content on your /africa/ page is valueable and unique, I wouldn't remove that.
I hope this answers your question!

404's after pruning old posts
Hey all, So after reading about the benefits of pruning old content I decided to give it a try on our blog. After reviewing thousands of posts I found around 2500 that were simply not getting any traffic, or if they were there was 100% bounce & exit. Many of these posts also had content with relevance that had long ago expired. After deleted these old posts, I am now seeing the posts being reported as 404's in Google Search Console. But most of them are the old url with "trashed" appended to the url. My question is: are these 404's normal? Do I now have to go through and set up 301's for all of these? Is it enough to simply add the lot to my robots.txt file? Are these 404's going to hurt my blog? Thanks, Roman

What would cause the wrong category page to come up?
I am trying to figure out why the wrong thing is coming up in the serps. For example, we are trying to rank for used widgets. But when you type in used widgets in google the primary widget page doesn't come up, one of the secondary categories under used widgets comes up. What would cause this? What are things I should check?

What is the influence in rankings of a post date?
One of my clients is a glazing company. We found out that al his local pages (city related pages, with titles like 'glazing new york') had an old post date, for example 1 june - glazing etc. (in google). I understand that the influence of freshness depends on the topic, but isn't it bad when dates are too far in the past? sorry for my english - we're an european company 🙂

Sub domain vs. sub folder
I know this has probably been asked many times and answered too, but things change a lot, so I would like to know with current search engine algos and co. The scenario is as follows: Building an ecommerce site and also want to incorporate a Q&A section, for support and FAQ's and such. should we go ahead and sub domain this like: community.test.com or rater go with test.com/community. I would really like to know why, why not and maybe some real life examples. Thank you all

Hiding tag and category root in wordrpess = plunge rank
I deleted the "tag" portion of my tag urls's that were ranking pretty high....so: www.businessinteriors.co.uk/tag/office-fit-out-bristol became www.businessinteriors.co.uk/office fit-out-bristol The old tag page ranked 7 before the change and even 3rd at one stage. The new name page without the tag has re-appeared at 23.... So quite a plunge in ranking from the change and this is across the board for all my tags (200) that were ranking high and I wanted to improve. Have I made a major error? Or will they naturally start coming back to where they were before? Weirdly some of the changes have had a positive impact - so ranking has gone up slightly in some areas..but completely out done by the plungers :-s
