Could I set a Cruise as an Event in Schema mark up?
-
Hi there,
We are now in the process of implementing a JSON-LD mark-up solution and are building cruises as an event. Will this work and can we get away with this without penalty?
Previously they have been marking their cruises as events using the data highlighter and this has displayed correctly in the SERP.
The ideal schema would be Trip but this is not supported by Google Rich Results yet, hopefully they will support this in the future.
Another alternative would be product but this does not display rich-results as we would like. Event has the best result in terms of how the information is displayed. For example someone might search "Cruises to Spain" and the landing page would display the next 3 cruises that go to Spain, with dates & prices.
The event location would be the cruise terminal, the offer would be the starting price and the start & end date would be the cruise duration, these are fixed dates.
I am interested to hear the communities opinion and experience with this problem.

I don't know of an absolute / definitive answer. If it were my site, I think I would be happy to take the chance with Event markup since there is no perfect match, as you say.
Evidence in each direction:
- Yes - this is OK - Google's schema page talks about "If the event happens across several streets, define the starting location and mention the full details in description.
- No - this is not OK - the same page says "Don’t promote non-event products or services such as "Trip package: San Diego/LA, 7 nights" as events".
The reason I wouldn't be too concerned about the "no" side is that I think it is reasonable to read that as being about things like flights where the point is getting to the destination rather than things like cruises which are arguably events in their own right.
Good luck!

Thanks for sharing this information. Its helpful, thank you

I honestly think if you're going to pick one of the two (though neither is quite right), event makes much more sense than product does. It's not like someone is physically buying the actual cruise ship, instead they're paying to spend 'time' at a 'venue', the venue just happens to be mobile instead of stationary
Someone else went on a similar journey of discovery in 2017, here: https://www.webmasterworld.com/html/4844938.htm
... kind of interesting. It highlighted that Ticket schema might be one possible option: https://schema.org/Ticket. There are actually lots of references to "ticket" within Google's event schema documentation: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/event (ctrl+F for "ticket")
Apparently lots of cruise operators do use event schema, never heard of any of them using product schema

Hi Mozers, Apparently I'm using unique content in the short description area and it displays on the pages next to the product photo which is great how it is, but adding informational description repeating on every product page going to hurt us in SEO? Https://www.mywebsite.com/blog/tag/wolf/ setting tag pages as blog corner stone article?
We do not have enough content rich page to target all of our keywords. Because of that My SEO guy wants to set some corner stone blog articles in order to rank them for certain key words on Google. He is asking me to use the following rule in our article writing(We have blog on our website):
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | AlirezaHamidian
For example in our articles when we use keyword "wolf", link them to the blog page:
https://www.mywebsite.com/blog/tag/wolf/
It seems like a good idea because in the tag page there are lots of material with the Keyword "wolf" . But the problem is when I search for keyword "wolf" for example on the Google, some other blog pages are ranked higher than this tag page. But he tells me in long run it is a better strategy. Any idea on this?0 -

DNS Settings went wrong....
Hi, I'm going to have to give you a little bit of a back story here... In July last year we launched a brand new website, www.turnkeylandlords.co.uk. It was on a new domain. The IT department set it live, and unfortunately messed up the DNS settings so that the site was launched under the wrong domain, smartloan.co.uk. This error was rectified within hours. Unfortunately in those few hours, Google indexed it! I then had to set up webmaster tools for both domains, so I could use the 'remove URLs' tool in there, to remove all the URLs from the smartloan domain. That all worked fine, the Landlords site was probably set back a bit, but we're now achieving some quite good results for it. 2 weeks ago we launched Smartloan as a product, and of course launched the website we've been working on for months... You guessed it! Google is now looking for all those old Landlords pages under Smartloan. My first thought is that we should do 301s. Would that be the best course of action, do you think? Webmaster tools has found 25 of them so far, but I know there are more - the Landlords site launched with about 90 pages... And where should I send the 301's? To the Landlords site, or to the smartloan root? Is there anything else I should do? Thanks for your help! Amelia

I run an (unusual) clothing company. And I'm about to set up a version of our existing site for kids. Should I use a different domain? Or keep the current root domain?
Hello. I have a burning question which I have been trying to answer for a while. I keep getting conflicting answers and I could really do with your help. I currently run an animal fancy dress (onesie) company in the UK called Kigu through the domain www.kigu.co.uk. We're the exclusive distributor for a supplier of Japanese animal costumes and we've been selling directly through this domain for about 3 years. We rank well across most of our key words and get about 2000 hits each day. We're about to start selling a Kids range - miniature versions of the same costumes. We're planning on doing this through a different domain which is currently live - www.kigu-kids.co.uk. It' been live for about 3-4 weeks. The idea behind keeping them on separate domains is that it is a different target market and we could promote the Kids site separately without having to bring people through the adult site. We want to keep the adult site (or at least the homepage) relatively free from anything kiddy as we promote fancy dress events in nightclubs and at festivals for over 18s (don't worry, nothing kinky) and we wouldn't want to confuse that message. I've since been advised by an expert in the field that that we should set up a redirect from www.kigu-kids.co.uk and house the kids website under www.kigu.co.uk/kids as this will be better from an SEO perspective and if we don't we'll only be competing with ourselves. Are we making a big mistake by not using the same root domain for both thus getting the most of the link juice for the kids site? And if we do decide to switch to have the domain as www.kigu.co.uk/kids, is it a mistake to still promote the www.kigu-kids.co.uk (redirecting) as our domain online? Would these be wasted links? Or would we still see the benefit? Is it better to combine or is two websites better than one? Any help and advice would be much appreciated. Tom.

Experiences with event rich snippets?
We've recently (in the past 6 months) implemented rich snippets into one of our websites, which lists events around the USA. We've run our code through Google's testing tools and all looks good. When we search for terms which we compete for, many of our competitors display the event sub-links in the SERPs but we still do not. Does anyone have any experience with rich snippets with regards to whether site reputation or (we're a new website) others factors will impact if/when google will display our rich snippets in search results? Thanks!
