Google Secure Search Announcement: How do you think this will play out?
-
So, I read this post on the Google Blog and then this commentary about it. Wondering what some of you veterans think about how this will impact results.
I always remain logged out for queries and use several different software tools to check when I run an analysis. Since social influences are becoming a bigger factor, do you think this is going to create some issues in data?
What are your thoughts?
-
Good question, I don't have the answer but based on all the data they collect, I would believe they would have it. Perhaps someone else can answer this for you.
-
I don't think it is any different but it sure has got some people's panties in a bunch!
-
Did I get it wrong if I was to say SSL is just blocking cookies and third part apps? In other words google will have all data and you have to go thru them so see stats?
-
we always adapt...why is this change any different that "panda" or what they called the "google slap" back in the day...we move forward with the only game in town and adjust..\
I see no cause for alarm..
-
Thanks for calling my attention to that--here is the link I believe you meant to leave. I use a variety of resources but think that you are right about the GWT.
One of the web designers I do work for got into a big panic over this change. Since things are always changing, I didn't give it too much extra thought because we work in a dynamic, challenging environment which is one of the things that attracted me to becoming an seo writer.
Time will certainly tell and I hear Google has some amazing things coming down the pipe.

Here's a great article by Denis Goedegebuure: http://www.searchenginejournal.com/dennis-goedegebuures-thoughts-on-the-changes-in-google-analytics/35143/
It's not an entirely bad idea to start paying more attention to Google Webmaster Tools data. It seems like they want us to use that as a central point of understanding website's health, traffic...etc. Far from what we really need in the SEO industry though. No doubt Google is pushing for their social network and various other products and more people will be logged in in the future.

Google Search Console
To the Moz Community, Should we be considering the information that Google Search Console is telling us? It is showing a dramatic drop in our SEO and our pages are not being indexed, however it is showing differently in our Moz Analytics section. Any clarification will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Dawn

Should Google Trends Match Organic Traffic to My Site?
When looking at Google Trends and my Organic Traffic (using GA) as percentages of their total yearly values I have a correlation of .47. This correlation doesn't seem right when you consider that Google Trends (which is showing relative search traffic data) should match up pretty strongly to your Organic Traffic. Any thoughts on what might be going on? Why isn't Google Trends correlating with Organic Traffic? Shouldn't they be pulling from the same data set? Thanks, Jacob

Differences in site search revenue in GA
I just put in a piece of software to replace a really bad built in site search engine on my 3dcart website. Now I am trying to measure the change, but I am having some issues. When I check the ecom data in the conversions section of GA with the built in segment Performed Site Search, I get promising results. Approximately 5% revenue increase over LY. But if we jump to behavior, site search, usage, and then check the visits with site search, I get a decrease by 4%. And the actual revenue is off, by like double (150k compared to 80k) Anyone have any idea why I am getting these results? The site search function is set up. Tracking is enabled, query parameter is keyword and search url is /search.asp?keyword=

Variables in Google Tag Manager
Last week I got a great answer here on how to implement GTM and cross domain tracking, now that we have that in place I'm looking for some more advice 😉 I'm wondering that if we push variabels into the data-layer of GTM, can we actually use those variables in reports as well? Do they get recorded in Google Analytics? I'd like to use some data that we push to the data layer for segmentation purposes. Anybody an idea how to achieve this?

Results Google in different browsers
I have changed one of my company pages. Now I saw that the Google position is different using IE of Firefox. In IE we are at position 1, in Firefox we are at position 4. Does anybody know, why this is? And how I could change this for different browsers? At the end the results are from Google.

Backlinks on Google Webmaster Tools
As I was reviewing my Google Webmaster tools, I notices a major drop in the number of back links. It used to show over 4,500 links to my site yet the other day it dropped down to 41. None of the directories I've submitted to are showing, nor any blog comments I've posted. Since then, my SEO traffic has started to drop for some keywords. Anyone know why?

Google encryption of search results
Hello Is there any definitive information on whether the recent changes to the way Google encrypts search results for people logged into Google affects the traffic present via the Google Adwords Keyword tool? Plus, how does SEOmoz ensure/minimise the affect of personalisation/localisation etc. on the rankings data provided via the pro tool. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Kind regards Neil
