Ideas for content
-
Where do you get your ideas to create content for a blog? I have been using the new keyword planner and am not coming up with any ideas. We are an e-commerce site that deals with commercial equipment. It is hard for me to show anything interesting with products because the company does not own it.
-
Why don't you write about how the equipment is being used. How it solved a problem. Perhaps a case study on how a client used it and how it improved their business. That way it is irrelevant on various models or even the same model. People love seeing how equipment can solve problems. If well written your clients will love it and perhaps put the case study up on their website and link it back to you.
-
That is what I will probably try. My only concern is if it is worthwhile. Some of our terms are low search volume. Is it worth writing a post if it has a low search amount?
-
In dealing with industrial equipment we have things like boilers. They cost thousands of dollars, and since we do surplus a lot of times we will only have one. So doing a lot of content on a single item is tough. I am looking at doing a category, but I don't have a lot of knowledge. Do you happen to know if I can cannibalize whats already in search? For instance we sell widgets and the widget category page ranks well. If I write an informative post about widgets, will it hurt my other results?
-
Then you can be the first to blaze a path, and not have as much competition! Write about the most unusual piece of industrial equipment you've had for sale, explain some of the common types of equipment, explain things in everyday language.
A similar, though not exact example from my life a week or so ago. My husband is looking to pick up silkspan in large rolls and have it cut into squares to resell. The term for this is "sheeting", but that word can mean so many things that it was of no help online. I could find plenty of equipment to do this, but I didn't want to buy something from Alibaba, I wanted to find a service to do this. I finally found one site that actually talked about doing this, and included the magic phrase of "paper converting". From there, I got what I needed.
Even if you don't have the exact same model for sale twice, can you write about the overall category of equipment?

A lot of the blog posts and articles that I publish are about objects and products that I do not own. If I believe a blog post about that object or product would be valuable I don't hesitate to spend $10, $50 and sometimes $100 to purchase the item for testing, photos and the ability to speak directly about my experience with the item. I have several articles where several hundred dollars was spent on items for testing, photos and experience.
If you have worthwhile content ideas, don't hesitate to invest in them. When you have great photos and an author who can speak from experience then you have kickass content as long as you can write effectively.
-
We work with industrial equipment, so it very rarely trends on anything. We are in a huge industry but nobody is doing any sort of content well. Not quite sure what direction to go since it seems like uncharted territory.
-
Without owning any item, and without having any knowledge of the product, it makes it tough.
We have a great youtube channel that has over 100k views, and photos are provided by customers so I can't get extras.
-
I was the phone person for awhile. So anything that people asked I have put up in either our About Us section or Frequently Asked Question area. We have an extremely wide variety of things on our site but we don't own any of them, so I have never even seen a product we sell which makes it difficult.
-
One method I've found successful is to leverage what is being discussed on different social media platforms. Through using Google Plus and what is trending on twitter (as well as others), you can discover relevant topics relating to your industry and utilize those topics to create content that is more likely to be shared or visited. See what other companies within your industry are having success posting as an idea.
-
Tell people how to select your products, how to use them full advantage.
Visit a business that uses your product. See what advice they would give.
Take photos and videos... use them to explain upsells.
-
My first stop would e to talk to the person (or people) who answers your phones. What questions do they get? What do people want to know about the product? What do they get tired of answering all the time that you could write about?

How much do I have to differentiate syndicated content, exactly?
We have about 15-20 articles we'll repurpose on a partner domain (think: media outlet). To avoid duplicate content suspicion, how much exactly do we need to differentiate the content on the second domain? Yea, this is assuming we can't obtain a canonical for whatever reason. I've found some good advice here, but am looking for some quantification. Like: "A sentence/paragraph of introduction at the top of the piece, plus a link back to the original at the end of said introduction ought to do it." Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Tim

Great content/news articles - but struggling to drive traffic from them
We publish 2-3 great quality news stories/posts on our sites weekly, but are struggling to gain traffic from external sources for them, other than our own blog and socials. We have followings for each of our sites, but want to expand and get our posts found in other relevant blogs, features, releases etc. The posts are 'Top 10 Tips...', 'How To... in 6 Easy Steps', 'What Makes a Great...' etc. All great things that people want to read about and share. All this of course helps towards the SEO of the sites, but the posts aren't written for that, they are written to guide and inform. My question is, how are other people getting their great content found online, talked about and shared? I personally think that our posts are awesome; containing useful information that will help people. Isn't that what it's all about?

Tools to created embedded content...
Wondering if anyone has done this before,, this so, would they mind sharing the best approach please. To cut a long story short, one of our seo client is a free UK internet safety resource, backed by (but independent from the UK Govt), the site is heavily talked about by sites such as BBC, Guardian and many more newspapers and as a result the domain authority is creeping up to 90 - Oh to be given the chance to monetise a site with DA 90!!! As you can imagine, with the quality of the links the site picks up, the ranking of content on the site can be fairly easy, but the one problem we are facing is that of sites 'borrowing' our content. These sites tend not to be small bedroom bloggers, but rather all kinds of sites. We have seen our content on UK University websites, Police websites and many more whom should know better. Obviously this is hurting the 'borrower' more than us with regard to duplicate content but it would still be good to get some credit for our work without having to keep hunting the sites down and emailing back and forth. We don't need the credit for backlink purposes but would be nice to have people know we read it incase they want to read more. A solution I have pondered is to create embed options, as per youtube et al. Instead of sites having to copy our content to list it, they can still include our content on their site and avoid any duplicate content issues. As I believe the embedded content will be called from our site (I think that's how a youtube video works) our site would also get the read stats on the content regardless of where is it located. We are hoping that this could become a great content distribution tool, we don't need people to come to our site as the site is non profit, has no advertising but we need to justify the resources we get by showing how many people are reading what we publish. We are never going to be able to stop sites using our content so, like the music industry and itunes, if we can find a legal way to do it then we can all benefit. My main question, yes, I do actually have one!!!, is two fold. Is it possible to create embed for whole articles and am i right in my thinking that if our content is on Jeff's Blog and loaded as an embed then the hit on the content is still reflected in our stats as the content is being pulled from our url? Sorry for the excessively long way of explaining this, any feedback is welcomed, even 'don't do it, it's stupid idea'!!

How can we dynamically populate content on our website based on a visitor's web history?
Recently, I have tried looking into options that would allow us to dynamically populate content (specifically images to be used at CTAs on our blog in wordpress) to different users based on their web history on our website. We would want to be able to dynamically populate images based on the number of visits in the past 60 days and the inferred industry based on pages hit. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find anything as a standalone tool - I believe HubSpot may have something like this but it is rolled into their blogging platform. Does anyone know of one?

Duplicate YouTube Script Content - Penalty?
I've been tasked with writing scripts for upward of 100 YouTube videos describing my company's products. In more than a few cases, the products are so similar as to be almost identical; unfortunately, they aren't and will require their own videos. If I create a "template" script, I would save hours and hours of tedium. For example: Video 1: (VOICEOVER) Buy the ABC widget today! Video 2: (VOICEOVER) Buy the XYZ widget today! So, my question is: Would I be looking at a duplicate content issue? Jeff McRichie's terrific Whiteboard Friday about YouTube Ranking Factors mentioned that YouTube has an auto-transcription feature that might expose my self-plagiarism, and I don't want to get dinged. BTW, this isn't a matter of my being too lazy to write individualized content; it's more that 1) the products are almost identical, and 2) I have just about a week to write, produce, and act(!) in all of them.

Is it advisable to have unique pages for different cities/states though there wouldnt be any actual differentiation in the actual content.
Is it advisable to have unique pages for different cities/states though there wouldnt be any actual differentiation in the content. For example should we have separate pages for "hammers in california" & "hammers in new york". The product is same and content more or less the same. The search volume for individual queries is low but collectively makes a large number. The unique title tag automatically will generate traffic. So does it make sense to make 50 such pages. Else is there any way to uniquely target 50 such queries/month/city

Content being copied from our product page hurting our site overall?
On our product pages, he have short descriptions and some bulleted lists. Resellers of our products, and many other sites who are not resellers are copying this content, often verbatim. While I'm not as concerned for the product pages themselves as we're hoping the category pages will rank, does this duplication of our content hurt our site overall? FWIW, our brand name is in our domain and often also shown on these sites that copy the content.

Blogger - Multiple partial duplicate content and canonical
In Blogger, have at least three pages produced for each post - main post, archive and tag - each has their own canonical tag - are these considered duplicate content by Google? Not sure the best way to handle this.
