Google certification
-
Hi
Just wondering what everyones thoughts on Google certification? I was wondering if anyone had any experience doing the analytics and adwords tests? Do you feel they give you a benefit or advantage to others in your field? And also what is the cost of the exams?
Thanks in advance
-
I agree.
Google should make the tests very difficult and require a very high score for a person to say that they are "certified by google".
The test is easy and only 75% is needed to be "certified".
Do you want a person who does not know 25% of the facts running your $20,000 per month campaigns. That means that they are blowing $5000 per month.
Google needs a kick in the pants.

I have mixed feelings about them. While it looks good to be certified by Google, the test are really not that hard and more about their Adwords program ins and outs. Helps if you go in with a complete knowledge of PPC strategy first.
Just my thoughts.

This is exactly right, I have them but the only value outside of what I learned to pass them is if you are trying to be a Google partner (http://www.google.com/analytics/partners/apply).
-
They are rubbish because the passing score is so low.

Dirk hit the nail on the head with his answer. I took both of them (and passed). The studying helped w/the resources (analytic's academy) and I actually learned things I didn't pick up already.
-
As with all kinds of certifications - it can help convince others (your boss, potential clients,...) of your skills. Doing the tests for the certification also forces you to check if your knowledge is still up-to-date. Apart from that, it's just a piece of paper.

Google Merchant Center product reviews
My googlefu is not good enough to put the words together to find an answer for this, but I am sure there is one out there. I am making a review feed for a client's site to submit their product reviews to google merchant center. But one problem we are having is that the reviews are generalized, like how amazon does it. A sample product would be Whey Protein, this product is available in 4 different sizes and has 4 different GTIN's (one for each size). But the reviews we collect are just for the base product of Whey Protein. What I am trying to figure out, is if I can assign a parent GTIN, then correlate the reviews to that GTIN and then let them populate for the child GTIN's some how.

How to Tell Google About My Near Duplicate Pages?
For my Adwords campaign, I create a separate landing page for each Ad Group, but are similar enough to one another that they may be considered duplicate content. Should I use a canonical tag on the page to tell Google which page is priority? I don't care about any of those pages ranking in search, I'm just using them for my ads. I also don't want to redirect, clearly. Is the canonical tag the correct way to go?

Google Product Ads
Hi,
Paid Search Marketing | | ChrisHolgate
I was wondering if I could ask is perhaps someone could give me some clarification as to how the amount we bid on Google Product Ads reflects the product positioning on Google Shopping? We have a Google Product Data Feed which is then linked up to our Adwords account so that we can determine a PPC bid amount. In instances like this it doesn't seem to make sense that one person may be paying 10ppc and another 20ppc when the buyers criteria for sorting merchants was purely down to the price. Since the buyer has the option to sort their products in price from minimum to maximum the sort order cannot be manipulated by Google based on the amount the merchant was paying. As such, how is determining a cost per click figure relevant when the customer is searching by base price low > high on Google Shopping? Surely I should just set the limit to £0.01 and rely on the customer determining the sort order (which ultimately will lead to a higher conversion rate) than allowing Google to skew the results based on bidding 20-30 times this amount? I should state that I'm in the UK. I do realise that a high PPC amount will increase our chance of exposure on standard search pages but my question does relate solely to results listed on Google Shopping. Thanks for your help! Do UTM Parameters reflect in Google Analytics
Hi, We have recently enabled auto tagging in our URLs but not sure if tagging is working correctly. Does Google Analytics shows the utm parameters also in URLs in Google Analytics OR Google shows only the base url (after removing utm parameters) in Analytics. For example: Will http://www.abc.com/?utm_source=Indiaweb&utm_medium=Display&utm_campaign=CPC&utm_content=NRI_newprojects&utm_term=US be shown as is in Google Analytics under PAID Tab or only http://www.abc.com/ will be shown and the utm parameters will be removed in Analytics if auto tagging is enabled. Thanks in Advance 🙂 Regards Anirban

Top Ad in Google Adwords
Hello. How much of a difference does it make in click-throughs to be the first listing in Google Adwords versus the second or third (still at the top of the page)? Thank you!

Google CPP
I'm having some issues setting up a Google CPP extension, and am looking for help. I just set up a new ad group with a call extension. The bid for CPP is high enough to cover the adword bid plus $1 for the call. However, it is saying that the ad is ineligible. Research is leading me to believe that you need to have 25-40 clicks on an ad in a month in order to qualify. This will be difficult provided the budget and style of the ad. I also have another ad group under the same campaign. That has 79 clicks in the last month. Google is marking this ad as ineligible as well. What do I need to do to make the ad eligible? Anyone have some advice or something that I've missed? The ad extension itself and phone number have been approved. Thanks again for your help!
