Ranking Well in Google But Not Bing - Why?
-
Hello Moz Community,
I'm ranking well in Google (#2-#6 for various keywords) but on the second page of Bing.
Are there certain differences that I should be aware of?
Thanks,
Cole

My company gets a ton more traffic from Bing than Google. I have found (could be a coincidence) that I get far more conversions and technical support questions from Bing as well. I have lost some rankings in Bing because of the changes I have made to my site to keep up with best practice for Google. However strange it might sound, I haven't suffered any traffic or conversions from the loss of rankings in Bing.
Do you ever use your Bing Webmaster Tools? They are a little less insightful than GWT, but BWT does offer some insight to help your rankings. I would start there first.
Good Luck!

Hey Andy,
No disavow or https has been done. I've private messaged you.
Thanks,

Hi Andy,
I agree with most of your points but I would disagree with HTTP as a good example its very difficult to find much proof that HTTP really does give a boost, its so tiny you can't even measure it nearly. Bing does do somethings better than Google but really its neither here nor there.
If someone ever asked me to rank them in Bing I'm sure I would be far more lost than I should be but there are a few examples I found after a scoot about
http://www.bing.com/webmaster/help/webmaster-guidelines-30fba23a
http://www.searchmetrics.com/en/knowledge-base/ranking-factors-bing-us-2013/

Let us know how you get on and I hope some of that helps.

Hi Cole
They are currently two different search engines and as such have different algorithm rules.
Here in the UK, Google gets far more traffic than Bing, so when I have to make a change, I look at if it will affect Google, Bing is a secondary issue. If something affects Google positively but Bing Negatively I would always go with the Google option as it receives far more traffic.
One good example, Google gives a small ranking boost for HTTPS, whereas Bing doesn't.
Also if you have done a disavow file for Google, did you do the same for Bing, most people don't and hence you still have spammy links pointing to your site.
If you can either send me your url or post it on here and I will take a look for you.
Thanks
Andy

Number or percentage of new visitors impact Google rankings?
Hi all, Does the number/percentage of new visitors (from different IPs and countries) impact the Google rankings? If there are more number of new visitors, will Google favours the website in rankings considering the fact that new visitors are better than returning/same visitors? Thanks

Google & Tabbed Content
Hi I wondered if anyone had a case study or more info on how Google treats content under tabs? We have an ecommerce site & I know it is common to put product content under tabs, but will Google ignore this? Becky

Hi Moz fans! If you've not had the chance to check out moz cast go check it out it seems Google has been busy and so much so it broke Moz cast. There has been some discussion on seo round table about the changes and something seems to be going on. I wanted to find out how you guys are all finding it have you had a change in rankings? Any theories on what you think Google is up to? Personally I've seen rather a few of my sites go up in the rankings last week or so. As always look forward to hearing your thoughts and feelings on it Moz.

Why is a sub page ranking over home page?
Hey guys! I was wondering whether any of you Mozzers out there could shed some light on this query for me. Currently, one of our clients is ranking (on the second page, at least) for one of their target keywords. However, it's not the home page that is ranking - it is a sub page. I guess you could say both are targeted to rank for the keyword in question but the home page has a considerable more PA (+10) and has a lot more incoming links so it's a little bit baffling as to why the sub page has been given an advantage. Does anyone know why this may be? Also, on a secondary note, should I continue to build links to the home page or target this particular sub page to have a better chance of ranking higher for the keyword? Any advice on this welcome! Cheers!

What do you think Google analyzes for SERP ranking?
I've been doing some research trying to figure out how the Google algorithm works. The one thing that is constant is that nothing is constant. This makes me believe that Google takes a variable that all sites have and divides it by that number. One example would be taking the load time in MS and dividing it by the total number or points the website scored. This would give all of the websites a random appearance since there that variable would throw off all the other constants. I'm going to continue doing research but I was wondering what you guys think matters in the Google Algorithm. -Shane

Google Update on the 6th July
Hi Mozzers, Has anyone noticed a Google update on the 6th July? A price comparison site I optimise has fallen off the SERPs for most generic terms, however still getting traffic for longer tail phrases. Cheers Aran

Index Page lost rankings? Please Help!
This morning I ranked highly (Page 1 UK Google) for over 50 keyword search terms for my website http://www.careworx.co.uk This afternoon my rankings have bottomed out and dropped pages? I have not been de-indexed it appears and many of my sub-pages are still highly ranked. Would anybody know what has happened? I know of Google Panda but I would've seen results drop before now so I'm very concerned. Don't seem to have lost any links etc and am careful to balance SEO with a mix of techniques to keep Google happy and again, have not been de-indexed. Can anybody offer advice please, or let me know how I can rectify this.
