  • Is it a good move to pick 10 free blogging sites to build links. Like drip feeding them. Let's say 10 blogging sites irrespective of its a sub-domain as we get in wordpress or a sub-folder blog as we get in livejournal. Now adding articles related to my money website on those blogs newly created & building links from them. Then drip feeding them by putting 1 article a month at regular intervals with anchor as links in each of them. Do you think its a good move?

  • I am trying to make some sense of the data in the "Landing Pages" report under "Search Engine Optimization" in GA versus the data under the "Landing Pages" report in "Behavior | Site Content". For example, the SEO report says my page http://www.asiantraveltips.com/blog/bangkok-skytrain-bts-mrt-lines/ received 22,000 search impressions in the past 30 days and 900 "clicks" (12.42%). What are these "clicks" when the Content "Landing Pages" report says the same page only got 382 "sessions" in the same period??? What are these "clicks" if not clicks on the search results link that should be reflected in landing page sessions on the corresponding page?

  • I've got a site with two versions – a U.S. version and a European version. Users are directed to the appropriate version through a landing page that asks where they're located; both sites are on the same domain, except one is .com/us and the other is .com/eu. My issue is that for some keywords, the European version is outranking the U.S. version in Google's U.S. SERPs. Not only that, but when Google displays sitelinks in the U.S. SERPs, it's a combination of pages on the European site and the U.S. site. Does anyone know how I can stop the European site from outranking the U.S. site in the U.S.? Or how I can get Google to only display sitelinks for pages on the U.S. site in the U.S. SERPs? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this topic!

  • I am asking this because I have a couple of site audit tools that I use to crawl a site I work on every week and they are showing duplicate content issues (which I know there is a lot on this site) but some of what is flagged as duplicate content makes no sense. For example, the following URL's were grouped together as duplicate content: | https://www.firefold.com/contact-us | https://www.firefold.com/gabe | https://www.firefold.com/sale | | | How are these pages duplicate content? I am confused on what site audit tools are considering duplicate content. Just FYI, this is data from Moz crawl diagnostics but SEMrush site auditor is giving me the same type of data. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ryan

  • I'm trying to clean all of the Crawl Errors for my sites, and I've reached the point where I've become slightly confused. A lot of these pages that come up in Crawl Errors aren't being linked to anywhere. The ones I'm referring to are mostly pages that came with a theme that I'm using - part of the demo content - which I've since set to Unpublished Drafts. I'm not linking to these pages anywhere on any of my Published pages, yet Google is still looking for them, still showing them in Crawl Errors as Not Found. I'm assuming that Google found these pages at some point and can't find them now. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to keep setting up 301 redirects for these, or should I use the Disavow tool for these pages? I want to tell Google to forget these pages completely because I never intended for these pages to be indexed. This happens for just about all of my Wordpress websites in Google Search Console. Can someone please shed some light on this? If there are any articles on this problem, please share! Thanks!

  • I am very new to this site and need some help.  I have two spammy backlinks in my report that were done by my host provider as I hired them for SEO.  When I click on the web site there is no where to contact them.  I can only subscribe to their group and I sure don't want to do that.  Is having two ranking as an 8+ awful.  I don't know if I should do the Disavow route or not.

  • Dear Moz Community, I hope you can give me a hand with the following questions. Im in charge of SEO of an ecommerce site in LATAM. It´s service is available in several countries, therefore each country has it subdirectory Eg. /ar /pe /co /bo /cl /br,etc... (in the future we will move to differente ccTLDs). I have been recomended to split or create different Search Console or Webmaster Tools properties (one for each subdirectory) but when Im creating a new property with a subdirectory, lets say www.domain.com/ar, Webmaster tools starts creating a property for www.domain.com/ar/ (NOTICE THE LAST SLASH) and it returns since that page doesn´t exist, what do you recomend me to do? Best wishes, Pablo Lòpez C

  • Our site is very regional, so we focus all of our seo efforts on each of these region landing pages. For Example: domain.com/toys/us/ca/san-francisco We added an informational page (ex. reviews) and gave it a url like this: domain.com/toys/us/ca/san-francisco/reviews Question: Will external backlinks to domain.com/toys/.../reviews provide any link juice value to it's hierarchical parent page: domain.com/toys/us/ca/san-francisco?

  • I have been working on a website trying to get it to show up in the SERPs again. It is being indexed which is great, it has some errors that I'm fixing now. But for the most part it should be ranking. It don't show any penalties going on, but when I did a backlink search we keep getting the cialis, viagra etc inbound links. First thought was Pharma Hack. But it's not a WP site and I recently rebuilt it. So whatever bad code could have been there it's not anymore. It doesn't show up in google either for the search site:www.mysite.com viagra cialis etc... So I'm wondering if anyone has any insight in a direction to point me? I don't understand what would be causing this to still not rank. Only thing it ranks for is it's name. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

  • This one has me stumped, so I really hope someone can help. I am assisting a company who are having 404 errors on certain japanese pages of their site. I have checked in web master tools and analytics, can see the 404, but have no idea where it is coming from. I am starting to think it may be a encoding issue of some sort. Just wondered if anyone has come across this before? Site uses site finity. What is happening is reader is going to page domain.com/ja/blog/article then coming to this page /404?aspxerrorpath=/Sitefinity/WebsiteTemplates/App_themes/"website"/fonts/open sans regular Really odd - as we cannot re-create this 404 I don't know how they are getting to it? Also in Analytics some of the pages that are written in japanese that are giving 404's look like this C3%A3%E2%80%9A%C2%BD%C3%A3%C6%92%C2%AA%C3%A3%C6%92%C2%A5%C3%A3%C6%92%C2%BC%C3%A3%E2%80%9A%C2%B7%C3%A3%C6%92%C2%A7%C3%A3%C6%92%C2%B394.8%C3%A3%C2%81%C2%AE%C3%A5%C2%AF%C2%BE%C3%A8%C2%B1%C2%A1/%C3%A9%C2%A1%C2%A7%C3%A5%C2%AE%C2%A2%C3%A3%E2%80%9A%C2%B0%C3%A3%C6%92%C2%AB%C3%A3%C6%92%C2%BC%C3%A3%C6%92%E2%80%94%C3%A6%C2%AF%C5%BD%C3%A3%C2%81%C2%AE94.8 Any help much appreciated

  • When I type my domain into OSE I get a list of linking domains. Most of them I have seen before and I know were active last year. However, when I click through, many of these links have been removed (which is what I wanted/requested) and some of the pages return 404. Google (via  link:www.mydomain.com) doesn't show these links as active either. My question is why does OSE show them? Thanks

  • There is a individual/company that is creating lots of spam sites in my niche. It doesn't seem that they are trying to rank for any keywords, so I'm a little confused as to their purpose, but here's what they're doing. They scrape the top 10 Google results for each keyword and create a page - so if the niche is "widgets", they scrape the top 10 ranked sites for 'widgets', 'blue widgets', 'red widgets', and so on. A 'results' page is created for each keyword, which is linked from a home page. The results page always contains 10 websites - text is the site metadescription or similar. Each website gets a nofollow link back with the page title used as the anchor text. The host sites all have the keyword in the domain name - e.g www.widgetsxyz.com. The sites are thrown together but interestingly have a very crappy but individual logo (like 90's clipart). The host sites all have high DA/PA due to some very extensive link spam pointing to the sites, with very targeted keywords. There is seemingly no purpose to these sites that I can see - no other 'followed' links on the page or site. Whoever is doing this is churning out tens, if not hundreds of these sites. Any ideas what might be going on here, and whether I should be disavowing these sites (even though no follow). The fear is that they could switch the links to do follow, and get all the major players penalised in one fell swoop. ???

  • Our developer has improved page speed, particularly for Mobile. However the price for this improvement has been a HTML validation error that cannot be removed without compromising on the page load speed. Is the improvement in speed worth the living with the validation error? The concern is paying a high SEO price for this "fatal error". Or perhaps this error is in fact not serious? Fatal Error: Cannot recover after last error. Any further errors will be ignored. I ran my Wordpress homepage HTML (after I implemented schema mark-up) in the structured data testing tool and received an error parsing the JSON-LD... it came at the beginning of the code and I know it is from the slider banner plugin... We are trying to see if there as an alternative to implementing schema with in the js... also does anyone know if the actual Google search will simply skip over the code and parse the rest of HTML? Thank you for your help.

  • Hello, There are many articles and from our personal experience we can say that you can rank a page without backlinks with high DA but we cant figure out if DA of domain help to rank as the link juice ( so the link juice going from home page thru all pages to specific page)  or it will rank a page even if its not linked in any way from homepage or any other pages and even if it not linked in any way from other pages and still ranks just because of high DA, does that DA value will spread even above all indexed pages if you have lets say 100,000 pages, i mean if domain has 100 indexed pages and DA of 50 and another domain has 100,000 and DA of 100, if both pages are the same on those domains and have no backlinks to it from my understanding page on domain with 100 indexed pages and DA of 50 suppose to rank higher ? Please share what you think

  • Hi all! I want to start with International SEO process for my ecommerce. We sell worldwide with a .com domain, although the business is mainly focused in Spain. We maintain three languages, spanish, english and french with a non suitable structure. Now, after read a lot about it, I'm considering to use subdirectories for each language, /es/, /en/ and /fr/. And heres it's my first doubt: Could I avoid /es/ from spanish language as it's the default one? I've understood from recents Q&A that it's not needed although more user friendly. I'm trying to avoid tons of 301 from old urls for my main language. Anyway I want to know the best approach regardless complexity. My second doubt is about country targeting. After some research, I consider that it'd be interesting target country for /fr/ subdomain but language for /en/. Do you see any problem mixing both strategies? I know I also need to add the hreflang tag to guide googlebot. But I prefer to clarify these points first. Thanks a lot! Best regards.

  • I am employing some schema.org markup for a dental website, and I am wondering what best practice for using markup is. The NAP is on the footer and on some pages on the sidebar. I was wondering... Should I use schema for the NAP on both the footer and the sidebar or is markup on just one enough? Are there any negative consequences to having the same info marked up twice on the same page? Should I use the itemtype "dentist" or "localbusiness"? Is there an added benefit to either depending how you look at it? My thoughts were that "dentist" is more specific, so that would also imply that it is also a local business... If I use the itemtype "dentist" on the footer and "localbusiness" on the sidebar would that violate best practices or would you get the benefits of both? Would love to hear all of your thoughts! Thanks!!!

  • We recently launched a new site (www.CanyonOS.com) on Magento Enterprise. We have run several crawl tests with Moz and keep receiving 302 redirect errors. We've used the admin console for our site to apply 301 redirects in every area that we could but have had no success. (Last audit was completed on August 14) We are receiving 301 redirects on the following types of pages totaling 43k issues 😞 A majority of these issues are when adding and comparing products to the following types of urls. domain.com**/catalog/**product_compare/ domain.com**/wishlist/**index/add/product/ domain.com**/checkout/**cart/add/ Any suggestions from any SEO gurus? • Somehow we ended up getting hundreds-of-thousands of links coming from our .au (Australia site) to our .com (America site). We believe that something happened during a change that turned a handful of our example.com.au navigational and footer links into back links pointing to example.com and sub-domains of the American version. We are currently fixing this, but we are wondering if this could potentially be problematic in terms of a penguin penalty due to an unnatural linking campaign or back link scheme. Could this error create major problems for us in the near future if we have corrected the issue? Your thoughts are welcome! Thanks!

  • I work with several thousand local businesses and have a listing page for each on my site. Recently a large chunk of these locations closed, and a number of these pages rank well for localized keywords. I'm trying to figure out the best course of action.
What I've done so far is make a note on each of the closed location pages that says something to the effect of "This location is currently closed. Here are some nearby options" and provide links to the location pages of 3 open places nearby. The closed location pages are continuing to rank well, but conversion rates from visitors landing on these pages has dropped. What I'm considering doing is 301ing these pages to the nearest open location page. I'm hoping this will preserve the ranking of the page for keywords for which the nearby location is still relevant, while not hurting user experience by serving up a closed location. I'm also thinking of, as a second step, creating new pages (with slightly altered URLs) for the closed listings. They won't rank as well obviously, but if someone searches for the address or even the street of the closed location, my hope is that I could still capture some of that traffic and hope to convert it through someone clicking through to an open location from there. I spoke with someone about this second step and he thought it sounded spammy. My thinking is, combined with the 301, I'm telling Google that the page it is currently ranking well no longer has the importance it once did and that the page I'm 301ing to does, but that the content on the page I'm creating for the closed location still has enough value to justify the newly created page. I'd really appreciate thoughts from the community on this. Thanks!

  • We have a client that we've been doing white-hat SEO for for over 3 years and they've always been number 1 in Google for all their targeted keywords. This year, their competition has been ranking above them and our client has been pushed towards the bottom of the first page. After thorough research, we discovered that this competitor is doing no SEO at all, just regular PR which our client is also doing. Our client is even spending money in Adwords and their competition isn't. Can anyone explain how a website that does zero SEO can magically be ranked at the top now and above our competitor who we're doing everything possible for?

  • We've been suffering under a Panda penalty since Oct 2014. We've completely revamped the site but with this new "slow roll out" nonsense it's incredibly hard to know at what point you have to accept that you haven't done enough yet. We have thousands of news stories going back to 2001, some of which are probably thin and some of which are probably close to other news stories on the internet being articles based on press releases. I'm considering noindexing everything older than a year just in case, however, that seems a bit of overkill. The question is, if I mine the logfiles and only deindex stuff that Google sends no further traffic to after a year could this be seen as trying to game the algo or similar? Also, if the articles are noindexed but still exist, is that enough to escape a Panda penalty or does the page need to be physically gone?

  • Hi, Currently we have a page, /business, but we have shifted our strategy to optimize for this page for the keyword "enterprise" instead of "business".  The page authority of this page is 18 and our domain authority is 35. I've already updated content and title tags to more of an enterprise focus. Would it be wise to move the page to /enterprise and create a 301 redirect from /business to /enterprise?  Or is this too risky from an SEO standpoint? Thanks!

  • Hi, I am trying to grade some pages and keywords using the "On-page grader" tool but for each URL that I try, the tool returns me a "Sorry, but that URL is inaccessible". The thing is that I have already used previously and without any problem some of these URLs. In fact, I have just realized that, while the same URL (for example: www.lacasadelaaldea.com) works in the "On-page optimization tool", it doesn't in the "On-page grader" right now. I have looked if someone could have experienced the same issue and I have found some other threads talking about it... so I have checked with my hosting provider that there is no firewall or any other thing causing this problem but they can't find anything. How do you make the call to the server? What could be happening? Thanks in advance, Juan

  • Hello, I wanted to ask this from long time but finally i gathered my energy to ask this long question at moz. Well, like almost all newbies with little knowledge of SEO & google I started my first blog in 2009, as things were very different that time & with posting more and more, I was getting good results & started to build decent traffic but with poor content ( I really din't care about it ) as I was getting organic traffic. But things changed with Google Panda Completely after 11th April 2011, Since the time Traffic keep on falling, I never made backlinks so Penguin Updates never hit us but because of Poor & thin Content Site went down lower & lower. I took some steps like increasing word count of posts, removing some posts but nothing worked so far but nothing worked. Blog has almost 1200 articles & most important it was my first blog so I was bit attached with it. Now my Question is, Should I just dispose the blog & move on or There is something which I can try to recover it. The blog is 6 years old as of of now & received 2 million organic traffic as of now. ( attached organic Traffic screenshot ) My question is, Can something be done Seriously for this blog or I should just let it go. I will appreciate some genuine advice on that. Thanks ZhS1xIS.png

  • Hello, After crawling our site Moz is detecting high priority duplicate page content for our product and article listing pages, For example  http://store.bmiresearch.com/bangladesh/power and http://store.bmiresearch.com/newzealand/power are being listed as duplicate pages although they have seperate URLs, page titles and H1 tags. They have the same product listed but I would have thought the differentiation in other areas would be sufficient for these to not be deemed as duplicate pages. Is it likely this issue will be impacting on our search rankings? If so are there any recommendations as to how this issue can be overcome. Thanks

Because our website using Wordpress.org as our CMS for blog post then easier to redirect by point to new site, According to setting site URL ? However in our each blog articles also have anchor text as internal link that link to another blog post, Which mean those link will be automatic redirect to new URL. So once Google bot re-crawl our website when we tell the Google by webmaster tools and the redirection we using 301. What will be happen when Google Bot crawl those link again We need to changes those link as well Keep same with redirection. Nothing happen

  • This may sound crazy but is it possible a hamburger nav used on a desktop responsive site could lead to a drop in organic traffic? Our hamburger nav requires between 3-4 clicks to arrive on a subpage. Here's an example of necessary clicks for a given page: click hamburger menu2) resorts (expands resorts nav) city (expands various cities where our resorts are located) actual resort (this opens up resort menu) resort overview (first clickable link) Is there any way we're getting penalized for excessive number of clicks? All our old pages were 301 redirected and content is relatively the same on the new redesigned website. Thanks

  • Hello all, In 2013 I had an Unnatural Links Warning message in my GWT account. I believe that it was a result of the work of an old SEO company. When I received the warning I was working with an SEO. He helped me clean up some links. He also uploaded a disavow file for me. He did not file a reconsideration request. He told me that it was not necessary at the time. The message disappeared from my account. A few months ago a similar message appeared in the manual accounts section of my account. I gathered inbound links from GWT, Majestic, etc. I went through them myself and tried to contact lots and lots of webmasters. I got many links cleaned up. I spent several months on this project. I just logged into my Search Console account this afternoon and clicked through everything and guess what... that manual penalty message is gone. So... what does that mean? I assume that I should still upload the disavow file for the sites that did not respond to me that are spammy. Should I still try to file a reconsideration request even though there doesn't seem to be a manual penalty? How should I proceed? Thanks. Melissa

  • I've searched around quite a bit for a solution here, but I can't find anything. I apologize if this is too technical for the forum. I have a Wordpress site hosted on Nginx by WP Engine. Currently it resolves requests to URLs either with or without a trailing slash. So, both of these URLs are functional: <code>mysite.com/single-post</code> and <code>mysite.com/single-post/</code> I would like to remove the trailing slash from all posts, forcing mysite.com/single-post/ to redirect to mysite.com/single-post. I created a redirect rule on the server: ^/(.*)/$ -> /$1 and this worked well for end-users, but rendered the admin panel inaccessible. Somewhere, Wordpress is adding a trailing slash back on to the URL mysite.com/wp-admin, resulting in a redirect loop. I can't see anything obvious in .htaccess. Where is this rule adding a trailing slash to 'wp-admin' established? Thanks very much

I came to realize that the pages were "Ajax Pages".  This is specifically a checkprice pop up and I dont want this page crawled by google.  It looks like to google I have over 2k pages missing Meta Titles and they are all "check price pop ups".  How would you suggest I block this.  I thought about going the easy route and removing the subfolder and putting it in the Robots.txt document and I'm scared of that because we use AJax for a bunch of calls.  I'm also scared of putting in the head   <metaname="robots" =="" noindex, nofollow"="">because it requires hard coding</metaname="robots"> I Know i'm not the first to come across this issue, Any Ideas??
