Do follow blog roll links
-
Hi
I found out that someone is linking to my site from their blog roll (which is a related theme), which I am flattered. She is linking to lots of others including quality blogs.
I ran a back link report and I'm on 250 of her pages with a dofollow link. The anchor text is not a "money" keyword. In fact it's got nothing to do with what I do! The domain is DA38.
Now, here's the questions going through my mind!
- Do I ask her to make them no follow?
- Do I ask her to remove them?
- Do I ask her to brand them all instead of irrelevant anchor text?
- Do I just disavow them?
They are like having sitewide links on a site
Any thoughts?

I would not worry about this link and I think it will help more than it will hurt. A few natural blogroll links should be totally fine. It is when you have tons of sitewide links that it can become a problem because it would look unnatural to Google.
One thing you can check is your ratio of total links to followed linking root domains in Open Site Explorer compared to your competitors. E.g. 10,000 total links/200 followed linking root domains = 50 to 1. If your number is a lot higher than similar sites in your niche, you may want to reduce sitewide links to bring your ratio down and reduce risk of a penalty.

Google knows that people do blogroll links.
Google gives lots of blogroll links. Look at this one... http://adsense.blogspot.com/
I would not worry one bit about a genuine blogroll link if my site is not having any penguin or unnatural links problems.

Hi Sean,
A sitewide link with a keyword you are not interested in can be a good thing and a bad thing. It depends on the diversity of your anchor text. If you need diversity in your anchor text then this may work for you. Do you want to send me your link so I can look at your portfolio?
If you do not need anchor text diversity, I recommend you do the following.
1. Ask the blog owner to make them no follow or ask her to add your brandname.
I would not disavow them.

Am I better off with ten links from one site or one link from ten sites?
I am writing a series of linked-back articles for a highly-ranked web publisher, but wonder if I'd be better off sharing the articles across different sites. My goal is to grow our domain authority and SEO rankings.

Sitewide links
Hi there, We operate about a dozen websites that are part of the same parent company. All these websites are in the same vertical, and link among each other in the footer section. The anchor for each link is the brand name, so we are merely doing it to show what other products the parent company has to offer. My question is: do you think this is still advisable, or it might trigger a penalty? Also, what would you choose between: Sitewide footer links from each site to the other sites. A single footer link on the homepage from each site to the other sites. A presentation page on each website, one click away from the homepage, which presents the company's other websites. Thanks.

Link Farming
Are link farms still bad? I still am not sure about this question. I know that some people still do link farms. If they are bad, wouldn't a directory be considered a link farm? For instance I can get my site on a .EDU, but it will just be a list of links. Is that bad?
