What should I be shooting for for search visibility percentage?
-
Realistically - what's a "good" search visibility score? I'm working on a site that has been around less than a year. We are doing 3 blogs a week with carefully selected keywords. I know it will take time and lots of SEO work - but I'm interested in any ideas on what I should shoot for. Thanks for any thoughts! (Also not a local listing or anything - national search.)
-
That makes a lot of sense. Thank you!
-
So the consensus is that there's no right or wrong answer here, but in general, you should be looking to be higher than your competitors (especially on non-branded KWs).
You should also aim for higher visibility over time. The higher your visibility, the more traffic you will drive to your website. However, if you don't see organic traffic increase (with increased search visibility), you might be missing some primary keywords.
Hope this helps,
B

This is such a great question Meagan! I imagine it'll be quite different for individual industries?
Let me check with my team to see if we know the ballpark average search visibility and what you should shoot for. Thank you for asking this

Thanks EGOL
Apologies, it was late and I've heard that term used in a few different ways. Should have figured that was the case though. -Thank you!
This is another great resource on how Search Visibility is calculated: https://moz.com/help/guides/moz-pro-overview/rankings/search-visibility

Thanks for your responses. I am specifically referring to the 'Search Visibility' on the Moz Dashboard. thanks.
_@Egol the article was very helpful. _
Think of the SERPs for your keywords as villages. Each position on the SERP is a plot of land in SERP-village. The Search Visibility score is the average amount of plots you own in each SERP-village. Prime real estate plots (i.e., better ranking positions, like #1) are worth more. A complete monopoly of real estate in SERP-village would equate to a score of 100%. The Search Visibility score equates to how much total land you own in all SERP-villages.
-
If I've understood you correctly, you mean how to rate yourself over competitors?
I would make a small key list of main competitors for your search terms (chances are they will only be a handful anyway) and monitor where your keywords rank compared to theirs.
There is all sorts of site metrics you can use main one being Domain Authority, this is very useful to have a broad overview of what's going on. Just remember that metrics isn't everything, relevancy plays a huge role nowadays.

This article explains "search visibility" and has a section on how it is calculated...

Just to clarify, what do you mean exactly by search visibility percentage? Percentage of visits to your website via organic search?

Fixing Index Errors in the new Google Search Console - Help
Hi, So I have started using the new Search Console and for one of my clients, there are a few 'Index Coverage Errors'. In the old version you could simply, analyse, test and then mark any URLs as fixed - does anyone know if that is possible in the new version? There are options to validate errors but no 'mark as fixed' options. Do you need to validate the errors before you can fix them?

Missing new pages in Search
Hi, We are on wordpress platform with category permalink structure site.com/category/categoryname. To pull in more SEO traffic, we created pages with structure site.com/categorynameand pulled in all the content from category pages to these new pages followed by applying no-follow on category pages within robots.txt. While it has been a week we applied these changes, we still see old category pages on google search with weird description ( A description for this result is not available because of this site's robots.txt... ) How could we make search results to replace old categories links with the new pages? thanks in advance

Does Google Bias Against Homepages for Search Queries that are a Question?
If you are trying to rank for a keyword phrase that is a question (e.g. how to ___) does it matter if your page is the home page of your site or an article on your site? I suspect that Google would treat question search queries differently and would show preference for articles over a home page in most cases. An article would be more likely to satisfy the searcher by providing the answer to their question, whereas the home page usually doesn't provide specific answers. I looked at one keyword phrase that is a question and only 1 of the first 20 results was a home page. Any thoughts or experience with this?

Can't find Text-Only Cached version in Google search
Hi, I'm trying to view the text-only of a webpage to run a SEO audit, however Google does not give me this option. When i click the two arrows that appear to the right of a search result, the only option I get is Cached. Is there a reason this might be happening? I've tried clearing my cookies, signing out of Google, and anything else I could find on my troll of the internet. I also tried text, only please! however whether this works or not is debatable considering it shows me actual pictures on the site. Any ideas, or maybe another add-on that will work?

ON SITE SEARCH INDEXED BY GOOGLE - no follow or no index
Google indexes alll our internetal searches: search box is brand - clothes types - size type - and for each page it creates a page that which creates duplicate page title and unnecessary content. Should I do a nofollow on the advance search or a no index. Many thanks for the info. Sonja
