  • Dear all, I have bought 30 geo top level domains. This is for an ecommerce project that has not launcehd yet (and isn't indexed by Google). I am now at a point where I can change/consolidate all domains as sub domains or sub folders or keep things as they are. I just worry that link building  would be scattered and not focused and that it might be better to concentrate the efforts on one domain. What are your views on this? Many thanks!

  • I am new to using the Mozbar and maybe I have missed a setting someplace, but in search results under the individual results only the page links are showing - no referring domains, no links or referring domains for the site. Here is what I am getting: https://www.dropbox.com/s/67rl5itsiou4hnq/1b.png?dl=0 Here is what I would like to see (with all 4 results showing)  https://www.dropbox.com/s/ce71c9og48i7yk0/1b2.png?dl=0 Is there a setting I might have missed?  I have reinstalled the extension, oh...about ...5 times or so hoping that would solve the problem, but still getting the same results. Any suggestions or how to get all 4 results to display? Thank you for your help or suggestions

  • So one of the big issues facing my website is that Moz seems to be picking up all of the ''Search'' and ''Tag'' pages, which is causing duplicate content. I cannot see any use for Google to index these pages, so is it better to create a No-Follow rule specific to Search and Tag?

  • We have been using Facebook for some time for our business and are looking to schedule our posts. We want to schedule posts when they would have maximal reach to our audience. How do we find this out? Can it be identified using Facebook Insights? Instructions or guidance here as to how to do this would be most appreciated!

  • Hi Everyone, I'm currently running a job classified ad site, and having some problems with my brand site links. So in short, when I type my brand some sitelinks appear which is OK, but there is one that has the anchor text as "1", yep just a number one, as far as I know, Google takes the anchor text from internal linking, and since this the landing page for my search site.com/search-jobs I don't want to demote it. Now I started checking why the number "1" is actually showing and I figured it out it might be due to pagination, since the search results (?=page2, ?=page3, etc) were all linking from the bottom numbers to site.com/search-jobs with the almighty number 1, I took a decision on changing that link to site.com/search-jobs?page=1 and adding a canonical tag to the landing page to avoid duplicated content. The solution worked for a few days for private sessions only (anchor text was Search for jobs in Peru), but after that number 1 came back and I can't figure it out how to change it, tried to update the cache on search console on most pages that still had the previous version but to no avail. My boss and I are trying to fix this issue but no luck yet, should I update all of my pages' cache?, any help would be much appreciated.

  • Most of the SEO suggestions (great quality content, long form content, engagement rate/time on the page, authority inbound links ) apply to content oriented site. But what should you do if you are an aggregator or a resource directory?  You aim is to send the user faster to other site they are looking for or provide ranking about the resources. In fact at a very basic level you are competing for search engine traffic because they are doing same things. You may have done a hand crafted, human created resource that is better than what algorithms are showing.  And your site  likely to have lot more outgoing links than content. You know you are better (or getting better) since repeat visitors keep coming back. So in these days of Search engines, what a resource directory or aggregator site do to rank? Because even directories need first time visitors till they start coming back again.

  • We've been waiting on the latest Penguin rollout so long it would have been appropriate for Google to launch it with a creepy meme titled "I'm baaack." But now that it's here, what changes are you seeing to the websites you monitor or manage? We'd very much enjoy hearing you stories, thoughts and proposed courses of action below in the comments. • Hi Moz Community, We've been implementing new canonical tags for our category pages but I have a question about pages that are found via search and our filtering options. Would we still need a canonical tag for pages that show up in search + a filter option if it only lists one page of items? Example below. www.uncommongoods.com/search.html/find/?q=dog&exclusive=1 Thanks!

  • Hi all, Last year, a website I monitor, got hacked, or infected with malware, I’m not sure which. The result that I got to see is 100’s of ‘not found’ entries in Google Search Console / Crawl Errors for non-existent pages relating to / variations of ‘Canada Goose’.  And also, there's a couple of such links showing up in SERPs. Here’s an example of the page URLs: ourdomain.com/canadagoose.php ourdomain.com/replicacanadagoose.php I looked for advice on the webmaster forums, and was recommended to just keep marking them as ‘fixed’ in the console.  Sooner or later they’ll disappear.  Still, a year after, they appear. I’ve just signed up for a Moz trail and, in Open Site Explorer->Top Pages, the top 2-5 pages are relating to these non-existent pages: URLs that are the result of this ‘canada goose’ spam attack.  The non-existent pages each have around 10 Linking Root Domains, with around 50 Inbound Links. My question is:  Is there a more direct action I should take here?  For example, informing Google of the offending domains with these backlinks. Any thoughts appreciated! Many thanks

  • This has been driving me slowly mad for ages - a site that consistently outranks my client site despite my clients site apparently being more SEO friendly on every level: Google UK search term "chimney sweeps london" My client site: http://apexchimneysweeps.co.uk The other site: http://www.firkinschimneysweeps.co.uk Can anyone shed any light on how this is happening? I really hope I'm being an idiot and missing something obvious! Comparisons:  (A = apex F = firkin) Domain age: A 2000 / F 2013 Domain Authority: A 16 / F 9 Page Authority: A 29 / F 22 I would say Apex page content is better and is certainly updated more often.

  • Hey Mozzers, I'm just analysing a website's back link profile, and there are around 15 sites that link with a Moz spam score of 8 and above. I'm inclined to just go straight in and disavow these websites, even though some are industry relevant. But before I do, what are your thoughts around the reliability of Moz's spam score, and disavowing a site if above a particular score (8 and above). Thanks!

  • Hello, Currently on our site we have the rel=prev/next markup for pagination along with a self pointing canonical via the Yoast Plugin. However, on page 2 of our paginated series, (there's only 2 pages currently), the canonical points to page one, rather than page 2. My understanding is that if you use a canonical on paginated pages it should point to a viewall page as opposed to page one. I also believe that you don't need to use both a canonical and the rel=prev/next markup, one or the other will do. As we use the markup I wanted to get rid of the canonical, would this be correct? For those who use the Yoast Plugin have you managed to get that to work? Thanks!

  • Hi, I'm an avid fan of the Rank Tracker tool. You enter the keyword, the url, select subdomain or exact match URL, pick your search engine, and then... Then I have to look for the country in question via an old fashioned dropdown list. Sigh... you're stealing precious seconds from me everytime, esp. considering there's not a smart search function included. Why can't I have a button right next to it, with my favorite / often used choices?

  • Has anyone noticed certain drops in keyword rankings on/around 29 September? Has this to do with the Penguin 4.0 update? I read that this hasn't come "bug-free". Will this be adjusted the upcoming weeks? Or is this drop content-based based on the new algorithms and the content needs to be adjusted/updated?

  • We have a domain solely used for print advertising that does a 301 redirect to a landing page (a department home page) on our "real" domain that is indexed on Google.  Example:  www.bmwrepairs.com redirects to www.repairshop.com/bmwrepairs. Is there a way to do a 301 redirect so that when they get redirected, the URL in the browser address bar remains www.bmwrepairs.com?

  • Hello, I've been ranking a site for the last 5 months with good success, ranking on the first page for a high traffic keyword. In the beginning of September however, my site completely dropped out of the SERPs for several of those keywords yet my site was still indexed and there was no penalty applied to my site via search console. I would assume this maybe because of the update during the time.My site came back again a week later and it was ranking much higher on the first page (#2). Today, I just checked the SERPs and my site is now gone again. It was there this morning but now as of two hours ago it is gone, as well as one of my main competitors. My site is still indexed and no penalties via search console. Does anyone know what causes these types of issues? Im assuming my site will come back in a week or so with hopefully the same or better ranking, but when I have disruptions like this it really hurts my organic traffic. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

  • Hello Moz community, We have a blog where we post what we believe is very valuable, unique content for our niche. The content frequently stays very relevant for our visitor for many many years. In terms of both user engagement and SEO, should we keep the dates in our blog posts? Should we remove them? Should we go through every blog post and edit it slightly every week even if there is no meaningful information we can add? Should employ some kind of plugin that does update the blog post date automatically?

  • Hey everyone, We have a couple B2C medical/healthcare clients we produce content for and I was wondering what the industry stance is when it comes to giving references at the end of a blog, assuming there were no statistics or direct quotes used in the content. A lot of our content is written via research on a specific condition/treatment and doesn't really dive deep into specific medical nuances. Things like risks, recovery timelines, questions to ask, etc. are written about mostly. Still, should we be providing general references at the end of blogs to sites like WebMD, Medscape, etc. Thanks for any input!

  • Hello, Does anybody have real experience optimizing internal links in the category page? The category pages of my actual client uses a weird way to link to their own products. Instead of creating diferents links (one in the picture, one in the photo and one in the headline), they create only one huge link, using everything as anchor (picture, text, price, etc.). URL: http://www.friasneto.com.br/imoveis/apartamentos/para-alugar/campinas/ This technique can reduce the total number of links in the page, improving  the strenght of the other links, but also can create a "crazy" anchor text for the product. Could I improve my results creating the standard category link  (one in the picture, one in the photo and one in the headline)? Hope it's not to confuse.

  • Our store has been up and running for about 18 months and has been more successful than expected. Unfortunately we have run into a few minor issues with customers wanting to pick up in store but much of the online parts we sell are drop ship. We have made the decision to open a second store. One will support our brand (using current URL)and reflect products and pricing we offer at our B&M locations. The second will continue down the path we have been going but under a completely different brand (and URL) in no way tied to our  B&M stores. My question is this: Would it be smarter to re brand the store we have now and change the URL.?We would then create the second site as our corporate branded site. Or do we adjust the currently site and then create a second site with the new brand. The only real hold up is that the re branded store will generate far more revenue and the current site is optimized very well. However if i change the URL the optimization will go out the window .

  • I am working with a real estate attorney in NJ. there are 17 real estate attorneys within 5 miles of my clients location. I need some strategic advice to rank my client higher quickly 2-3 month range. I have had him as a client since the begging of his practice (just opened in February 2016)  I created the website and embarked on a content marketing strategy, this has produced slight raises in traffic. What could I do better to get him in local packs and generally raise to first page for long tail keywords? ( my other clients have not been so difficult but they also are not in such a competitive atmosphere)

  • Even a couple of years ago, I would have told people that they don't _need _a Facebook page for their business if they don't plan on posting regularly and don't expect many Likes. In 2016, has this changed? Is it weird now for a business not to have a Facebook page, even if it's not particularly active? Is it just widely expected now for every business to have a Facebook page? Even if it's just used for brand awareness/visibility or as a popular directory listing simply to occupy more results on the first page for a branded search?

  • We have a site currently in development that is using the Google Translate API and I am having a massive issue getting screaming frog to crawl and all of our non-native English speaking employees have read through the translated copy in their native language and the general consensus is it reads at a 5th grade level at best. My questions to the community is, has anyone implemented this API on a site and has it a) helped with gaining traffic from other languages/countires and b) has it hurt there site from an SEO standpoint.

  • Hi, Would you say that based only on the "folder structure" that "somedomain.com/focus-keyword" has better conditions to rank well than "otherdomain.com/general-keyword/focus-keyword" ? Using Yoast SEO for WordPress when creating automatic XML sitemaps, URLS with subfolders seems to be getting lower priority. Thanks!

  • Hello. I have a lot of pages that I'm optimising. The ones I'm focusing on right now is already ranking, but the URLs could be better (they don't include the keywords right now). However I'm worried that if I change the URLs they will drop in rankings or have to start over. I would of course set up 301 redirect, but is there more I need to do? What is the best way to change URL for already ranking pages?

  • I've just carried out "Compare Link Metrics" analysis where I have compared our company page for a specific keyword with our competitors and it appears that our page outperforms our competitors by all factors provided by MOZ.com, yet our page is displayed as #5 in google search results and our competitor is taking #1, #2 and #3 for the specific keyword: "gāzes baloni". • I am working with a real estate agency who serves a very small geographical area in Dallas, TX. Many areas with Dallas addresses have proper names (e.g. Uptown, Highland Park, Lake Highlands, etc.), but the area my client wants to target is nameless, so we had the idea of trying to target searches for particular street names instead (e.g. homes for sale on easy street). I have looked around quite a bit, but have not found a website that takes that approach. Any thoughts on whether it's possible?

We opened the Google my business account and Moz Local. i think the developer/builder of the Country Club planned on the address being in different place than it is today. Do I have control over moving that marker on this massive property. Or, is this done at the city/county level? The marker isn't quite near the building or the true entrance to the country club.

  • Hello, I have a question regarding SSL Certificates I think I know the answer to but wanted to make sure. One of our clients’ site uses http for their pages but when they started creating Registration forms they created a full duplicate site on https (so now there are two versions of all of the pages). I know due to duplicate concerns this could be an issue and needs to resolved (as well as the pros and cons of both) but if they are already set up with https does it make sense to just move everything there or in some instances would it pay to keep some pages http (using canonical tags, redirects, htccess…etc)? – Most of the information I found related to making the decision prior to having both or describing the process but I couldn’t find anything that specifically related to if both are already present. I thought that the best approach because everything’s already set up is to just move everything over to the more secure one but was curious if anybody had any insight? Thank you in advance.

  • Hi, We have a news article on our site that describes currents status/news concerning 2 "major" topics for our business. Now we also have separate pages dedicated to these topics and try to target links/traffic here. This news article has obtained a few "natural external links", but to my question: Within the news article we mention these two keywords naturally about 10 times each. Should we "anchor text" -link each of these mentions to it´s dedicated/in depth -page? Or perhaps only the first mention? Or not at all and perhaps instead put text at the bottom of the article pointing/explaining where they can find more info on each subject at our site? Thanks!
