Guest Blogging Funny Problem!
-
Well it made me laugh and then cry a little after anyway.
I have a keyword which is ranking page 1 position 7, I created a really nice article with content relevant to the keyword maybe around 600 words.
I spent maybe half hour researching blogs on myblogguest looking for one that was based in the same country, had really good mozbar stats, even checked out how quickly other posts got indexed.
I put 2 anchor text links in the article and managed to get the blogger to post the article.
Next day checked the rankings and the post on the blog is now position 7, and has knocked me to position 8.
I'm tempted to ask the blogger to change the title tag not to include my targeted keyword.
Anyone got an advice on this?
-
Ok, its been about 2 weeks, checked this morning and I have moved up 1 position and the blog site is now 1 position below me.
-
Can you probably ask the blogger to change the title for it to be absolutely different?
-
Hi Ann,
It wasnt a guest post on a blog in the same topic, it was a general blog which covers pretty much everything BUT the domain auth is so powerful (one of the reasons I selected them) and I think this combined with the content has put them there, the title tag of the blog post doesnt even target the term, if you take 3 of the words in a title which has 8 words it makes the term up.
The blog post has even bumped wiki.
-
Now that some time has passed, is there still an issue with rankings? I assume his post was bumped above you because it was a fresh results (hard to say without knowing your actual key phrase).
Anyway, my advice is: just keep promoting your page and don't let guest posts compete with your own pages. Why do you need to guest blog on exactly the same topics? Go broader: expand your topics. Blog in neighboring niches (instead of your own). This way you'll get varied offers and hence links (and avoid any competition in the future).
As for the usefulness of guest blogging in general, I'd respectfully disagree with EGOL here. I've build my blog and personal brand on guest blogging only. I've given away my best content to SEOMoz, SEJ, etc. I have all my most powerful backlinks and leads coming from guest posts. Guest blogging is powerful, you just need to approach it properly!
-
Do you think the links on that post will come into play and push me above over a period of time?
Maybe. If the blogger has more traffic than you do it is possible that he will get more likes, tweets, links and social shares for his copy.... If you have more traffic then maybe you will win.
-
Yeah I did this before for a good article which was more of a tutorial and got around 100 likes in a few weeks, that alone made some movements in the SERP's (pretty good movement at that).
I do want to carry on with guest blogging though as I have seen some very good movement from this as well but maybe I should alternate one on my site one on another.
Do you think the links on that post will come into play and push me above over a period of time?

This is why I never give my content to others. Think about this........
Your site is doing pretty good. You got position 7 right away - and without any help. Your content is good enough that other people like it.
So, instead of spending any time looking for links or other people to post your content, just spend that same time creating another page of content. Then you have two pages up collecting traffic that probably rank well enough to pull in some traffic.
If you are giving your content away then the people who publish it are getting the traffic, the links, the likes and the sharing that you have earned. Don't feed your competitors and create new ones!
Work for yourself!
Over time the rankings of your good pages will rise and you will be the only person on the web who will have that content - that means zero compeition for your longtail keywords.
The results will be slow at the start, however, over time there is a good chance that your site will be more powerful and better known.

Pillar pages and blog pages
Hello, I was watching this video about pillar pages https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db3TpDZf_to and tried to apply it to my self but find it impossible to do (but maybe I am looking at it the wrong way). Let's say I want to rank on "Normandy bike tou"r. I created a pillar page about "Normandy bike tour" what would be the topics of the subpages boosting that pillar page. I know that it should be questions people have but in the tourism industry they don't have any, they just want us to make them dream !! I though about doing more general blog pages about things such as : Places to rent a bike in Normandy or in XYZ city ? ( related to biking) Or the landing sites in Normandy ? (not related to biking) Is it the way to do it, what do you recommend ? Thank you,

Blog.ledsupply.com VERSUS ledsupply.com/blog
Hi All- We had a security issue that started on out blog (ledsupply.com/blog) and moved into our shopping cart, so IT suggested and moved the blog to its own server. This means we had to change the URL structure. It's now blog.ledsupply.com/ instead of ledsupply.com/blog...Is there evidence or opinion on whether this will effect SEO/Traffic (assuming we set-up redirects, etc.)? I remember reading that Google suggests having your BLOG be part of your main domain and not a SUB domain, so I'm very hesitant to switch and also welcome any additional security measure suggestions we could set-up, so that we can keep the preferred domain structure. Thank you so much! -Brooke

Problems in indexing a website built with Magento
Hi all My name is Riccardo and i work for a web marketing agency. Recently we're having some problem in indexing this website www.farmaermann.it which is based on Magento. In particular considering google web master tools the website sitemap is ok (without any error) and correctly uploaded. However only 72 of 1.772 URL have been indexed; we sent the sitemap on google webmaster tools 8 days ago. We checked the structure of the robots.txt consulting several Magento guides and it looks well structured also.

In addition to this we noticed that some pages in google researches have different titles and they do not match the page title defined in Magento backend. To conclude we can not understand if this indexing problems are related to the website sitemap, robots.txt or something else.
Has anybody had the same kind of problems? Thank you all for your time and consideration Riccardo0 -
Releasing Multiple Language Blog Articles ?
I was hoping anyone could give me some advice on my situation Our blog is a huge traffic source for us, we frequently release fresh blog articles on our English language website bringing lots of relevant traffic for a variety of different relevant topics Some of these articles would be very useful and relevant for visitors to our German website so i would like to get them translated and posted on our separate German language blog on our separate German website. The article text will not change much as the information is the same for Germany also How should i go about this without running into duplicate content issues with Google I looked into rel=alternate and realized that i cannot use this over two separate websites, i also thought about rel=canonical but it doesn't look like this would be suitable either Can anybody please give me any advice or thoughts on this ?

I need some blogging advice please!
My name is Matthew and I am a new PRO member and founder of my own Internet marketing company in KS. So far I love the interaction and tools and functionality of seomoz. I am a true student of seo and love the subject. My dilemma is I know a blog is an important piece of any good seo campaign but I know very little about HOW to blog well......this is my new site and blog page. I only have a couple articles so far but many more planned. http://sawwebmarketing.com/seo-blog/ When I read an article that would be particuarly beneficial for my visitors can i post or share that on MY blog (giving the author the credit of course) without google thinking its duplicate content? is there anything specific I need to do with my blog for google to "see" the new, fresh content that is being added to the site? I have seen "tagged" items at the bottom of some blogs. Is this important? Some blogs will have a word or string of 2-3 words that are a link to a specific website. Does this help me or just them or just people reading the blog? **All I know is articles I write need to be relevant to my site and interesting and ORIGINAL and of benefit to my site visitors. ** Any advice that would help insure my blog articles get me all the juice they can would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you in advance! Matthew ps - my site only went live a couple days ago so I am still working on a few onpage items but ANY feedback about the site itself would be spectacular! Have a GREAT weekend!

Subdomain v. subdirectory v. other domain for blogs
I have a good amount of content on our main domain ( http://m00.biz/w4Ljfr ) let's say for discussion it's doctors.com and as you can see, much of it is in subdirectories. Traditionally this was the approach. Now I have some other content on subdomains but it's primarily directories and databases. Now I see that Google is giving subdomains their own SER as if they are a separate site and competitors are locking in the top few results merely by having their content on subdomains. Now I have an opportunity of doing two things: 1. Current content: moving all the content of the past few years on their own subdomain (forum, blog), and I'll be moving forum software anyways. Not sure about our own guide, which has been up there for a while. 2. New content: putting up some new blogs/magazines such as "Doctor's Handbook." Let's say that is a common phrase. I can choose between the following: (a) www.doctors.com/handbook/ (b) handbook.doctors.com/ (c) www.doctorshandbook.com I've got a bit of a quandary here, not sure of the best course of action and am curious to hear from many of you who have handled situations like this before.

Wordpress blog integration with full website effect on SEO
I have searched and searched for the answer to this question and can't find it. We are going to be launching a Wordpress blog on our domain shortly, however we have a much larger site that is mixed with static and dynamic pages full of custom programming tied to databases, etc. that we are running around the blog and can't integrate that into Wordpress due to its complexity. What this means is we have to install Wordpress on our servers somehow separate from the pages of our website. What I am wondering is if we run Wordpress in the /blog directory of our site as a separate installation if it will inherit the domain authority of our domain (currently around 60) or if it will be viewed as a separate site and get no ranking. Also, will our main site inherit the additional link juice from the inbound links that we get from the blog with it being separate from the main site? How does this need to be setup on our webservers to ensure the blog gets authority of the domain, and the blog contributes maximum SEO value to the domain? Any help would be appreciated.
