In addition to Ryan's great answer, Matt Cutts said that exact match domains will not be holding much weight anymore. It was abused too much be SEOs. Also, OSE is not 100% accurate, but it is a good measuring stick for backlink competitor analysis. Compare OSE to your own GWT links and see that difference.

I agree with Ryan. I sounds like you are very new to SEO so I am going to recommend that you print this and go grab a cup of coffee:

RE: Search Engine Rankings Going Down
Look at your Google Analytics and check April 24th. This is the date Google's Penguin rolled out. If you see a drop that day, then watch these two videos:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/whiteboard-on-googles-penguin-update
If your copied site was indexed and your old site lost traffic, then your copied website would probably be out ranking your old site. If it is not, then there is something else. Look into GWT to see if there is something you can find there.

RE: Creative Linking for Marginal Industries?
I have a client in Mexico. I am in the US. What I do is try to link to them from local business chapters like their local Chamber of Commerce. Also, I try local business listings. Getting links in a market where the web really has no strong presence (other than facebook and stuff like that) is tough, but the competition is low! Make a public facebook pages page and put your link on that.
There are many strategies on link building. In fact, you can find many here on SEOmoz. Start getting your customers to Like your page. Here, read this: http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links

RE: SEO Best Practices for Video Sites
I would submit a video site map in GWT (http://www.seomoz.org/blog/video-sitemap-guide-for-vimeo-and-youtube)
If your website is a normal website with videos in it, then I think should SEO as normal.
SEOmoz transcribes all the dialogue in the video for their Whiteboard Fridays. Perhaps that can lead you in the right direction.

RE: Does turning website content into PDFs for document sharing sites cause duplicate content?
As far as I know, it can't. But "if" you turned that PDF into a webpage, then yes. I don't think it's something to even worry about.
-
RE: Outbound Links to Authority sites
I think it helps. I link to my BBB page to show credibility to both Google and my users. I also link to government websites. Everything is followed.
The only links I would <nofollow>would be sites I don't particularly trust, like a new site. </nofollow>

RE: Domain with a Virus History
My site got attacked. That's what I really meant My webhosting company has a part for Malware sites. Maybe your hosting provider has something similar.
I would also send a snapshot of GWT under Malware to show there is nothing wrong anymore. You don't deserve to get blacklisted.

RE: New Search Engine.... Vanoogle.com
This has to be the most entertaining thread I have read since Q&A started!
http://blekko.com/ states right on their home page "the spam free search engine
I don't see any adwords stuff on there. Maybe Blekko will take over the world. Oh wait, facebook search might take over. No wait... Bing is taking over...... No no no, my xBox 360 is taking over! Yeah that's it. My xBox 360. Nothing but Bing.

RE: Tons of Long-Tail Conversion Terms -- What Should We Do?
What Rand talk about this here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/whiteboard-on-googles-penguin-update
Also, Penguin isn't really a penalty. Panda seems more of a penalty. Penguin is more of "you're trying to game the algorithm" and you have those characteristics on your site (or offsite)

RE: Domain with a Virus History
Good question. I think you should reach out to the person who is responsible for removing it from mywot.com.
However, I have never heard of them so I personally wouldn't use my time on it. Instead, I would use my time to write and market great content. You will get more visitors via that vs. people who use mywot.com.
Talk to your webhosting company about it. This recently happened to me.

ALL THE WAY! You want to be crawled from the top down.

RE: Best Ways to Get More Newsletter Subscribers?
For sure! Once the customer is at checkout or the receipt page, hit them up there. That's where I do it. ALSO, I have the Newsletter subscription in the footer.

RE: How to write a good resourceful SEO enabled article
You need to go to Mozcon. http://www.seomoz.org/mozcon
If you can't afford it, buy Mozcon 2011 videos http://www.seomoz.org/videos
If you are new to SEO, which sounds like you are, read this. http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo

RE: Does google index non-public pages ie. members logged in page
Just block those individual pages via Robots.txt in GWT. "IF" they are already in Google's index, remove the URLs in GWT.
DONE!

RE: Building Site Authority vs. Link Building
They have local chapters. I believe you can order over the phone, but here's their online form: http://www.la.bbb.org/Apply.aspx
Make sure to make yourself sound SMALL, okay? Because the larger your company is, the more they charge.

RE: What is the BEST eCommerce platform ?
I used to work at a web development form and I'm familiar with it. You can download the software and do what you want with it much like you can with magento. With many eCommerce software providers a person has to host with the company who provides the software. http://www.aspdotnetstorefront.com/c-1-e-commerce-storefront-software.aspx. Look at their packages and features.
Other providers like Volusion charge a monthly fee. With ASPDOTNETSTOREFRONT, there is no fee; however, there is a upfront fee.
I recommend it to someone who is using SQL (asp). This is not MySql (php)
-
RE: What is the BEST eCommerce platform ?
If a hosting provider will not support Magento, do NOT use them. That hosting provider probably wouldn't be able to handle any decent amount of traffic. Yes it does take up resources, but I never have an issue with it. I have been using magento since 2008 when it came out.

RE: Searching for BEST e-Commerce Multilanguage Platform, Need Advice
Look at Magento Commerce. I built this one in Magento: http://www.shipoverseas.com/
Go to the right and select "Spanish". This is multi lingual.
QUESTIONS:
-
What will be the SEO impact if I'm moving Furnace Filters Canada to a new platform? (there shouldn't be any "if" you're doing it the right way.

Do you have suggestions in finding the perfect multilanguage e-Commerce platform? MAGENTO COMMERCE

How about a eCommerce platform that can manage my 2 stores at the same time. MAGENTO

RE: Keywords and Getting Started with them to the top of the Search Engines
When people say get to the top of Google, they mean SEO. SEOMOZ is all about that. On here we really don't talk much about Adwords. I love Adwords and I am great at it, but I don't think many people here are as interested in hearing about Adwords.
Yes have good content for SEO. In fact, write some SUPER KICKASS content. Use the keywords in your content, BUT don't overdo it.
"Next I wish to have campaigns setup in google adwords keeping in mind those competitive keywords - here again does content on my website play a role? If I have no content and then have google adwords setup does that help? Please advice"
Answer YES! Your quality Score if affected. Low quality score = Higher CPC. Higher Quality Score = Less CPC.
"How long before I add good content pages and expect them to show up in my analytics etc?"
I don't understand that sentence. If you mean how long your content will take to show up in the SERPS, normally on the next crawl. "IF" someone visits your new content page, then it'll take about 2 hours to report in GA.
-
RE: How do I get the correct picture to show up in the SERPs?
Learn about schema.org. This will tell Google what to do.
-
RE: Ecommerce: Add new range to current website or Create a new one
I agree with Ben.
I also believe that those new products should be somewhat relevant to your domain easywatering.co.uk and/or your business. DOn't be spamming just to try and land business.
-
RE: Building Site Authority vs. Link Building
If you're going to buy links, you better buy one from a reputable site like BBB, Business.com, Yahoo Directory. Companies like AT&T have these links. Spammers and Scammers don't want to waste money on these. I have been using BBB for a while now and it has provided great credibility over the competition.
Not all inbound link are created equal. One link coming from BBB can be much more powerful than 100 blog posts.
-
RE: What is the BEST eCommerce platform ?
Magento Commerce all the way! OR for aspx ASPDOTNETSTOREFRONT
-
RE: New GA interface - Number of conversion by source
One other thing I wanted to mention. I use this so GA can tell me what countries are sending me the most orders. If you only sell in the states, then you can see what states are sending you the most orders and retarget any PPC advertising dollars to those states (in my case countries).

RE: Page Review Please
Maybe that guy doesn't know what he's doing.
I would 301 that URL to something short and to the point. Maybe something like: casa-grande-az-homes-for-sale OR homes-for-sale-casa-grande-az.
Just hearing "casa-grande-az-real-estate-homes-for-sale" sounds weird because NOBODY says "real estate homes for sale".

RE: How much does punctuation affect on-page SEO?
I heard Matt Cutts talk about this in GWT youtube. He says that punctuation are looked at as spaces, with exception to the _.(underscore). So in this case, I think Google will try to match it close. For instance, I rank for the word Ship Car Overseas. I didn't optimize for the word Ship Auto Overseas, but I still rank for it. I also didn't optimize for the word Ship Vehicle Overseas, but I still rank for that too. My point is that mens and men's is closely related and that you will probably be fine either way.
-
RE: New GA interface - Number of conversion by source
Here's your answer from an GA Ninja. Yes I took Avinash's course!
Advanced Segments > Custom Segments > New Custom Segment > Name: # of Orders Completed (or whatever you want) > Include > # of Orders Completed (Goal X Completed) > Greater than Zero. Save the segment.
The bold is going to depend on what you call this. I label mine # of Orders Completed because that's exactly what I want to know. I don't want to know about stupid percentages and I don't want to bust out the calculator every time.
Traffic Sources > Sources > All Traffic. Don't forget to have your advanced segment checked off. All the "visits" are the # of Orders Completed.
Wahla!
Mark this as good answer.

RE: Using an auto directory submission
Your clients don't understand the value of BBB. I use the BBB on nearly every page of my site to lend credibility. In addition, I use it in the SERPs to show credibility. A+ BBB Rating!
-
RE: Business Site Hit Hard from The Penguin Update
You need to watch the White Board Fridays.
4:30 Footer Links
8:50 Webpage Spam. In this case, you are doing microsites selling the same thing: TEMPLATES.
-
RE: Google Adwords Conversion Tracking Code Help - Not Showing Conversions
Your code is "wrapped". Mine is on separate lines. That's the only thing I can think of. Sorry I can't give more advice.
-
RE: Using an auto directory submission
One $400 link from BBB will be better than all those put together! Spend some money on BBB, your local chamber of commerce, and Yahoo Directory. "REAL" businesses have those (well maybe not Yahoo Directory).
-
RE: Why is SEOMoz telling me that meta descriptions are missing?
Here's mine:
name="description" content="BLAH BLAH BLAH" />
Yours is different. But what really matters is if Google is picking yours up. If it's an easy change, then I would change the meta descriptions to follow industry standards.
-
RE: Google Adwords Conversion Tracking Code Help - Not Showing Conversions
Normally it takes about 2 days for he conversions to populate in Google Adwords. I learned that the hard way. So if you are looking at yesterday's Adwords information, you will not see conversions. Your Google Analytics conversions have nothing to do with your Google Adwords conversions.
-
RE: Business Site Hit Hard from The Penguin Update
Oh yeah! Even I would hit you with a penguin. You might not like my response, but you asked for it.
-
Keyword stuffing in the footer.
-
Sitewide links in your footer linking to external sites. Why aren't they on the same site? Why are you making microsites? SPAMMING?
-
What's that? OMG same C-Block?

RE: How do I presuade Google to re-consider my site?
I would assume they stick to their word
-
RE: Limit for words on a page?
I have never limited the amount of content. In fact, I always write the highest quality and relevant content I can. Since I do this, I don't run into an issue of having thin content. ALSO, I have never really tried to "optimize" for search engines. Instead, I optimize for conversions.
-
RE: Google Filter? Drop from top first page to bottom second page?
Wait, are you referring to "live" SERPS or the Ranking Reports in SEOmoz. If it's a live SERP, then you need to de-peronalize you search queries.
-
RE: How do I presuade Google to re-consider my site?
I think this may help you. It was a popular blog post from a few weeks ago.

RE: For Newbies! | Matt Cutts on "How does Google use human raters in web search?"
Hey Thomas, I haven't seen you around for a while. Are you going to Mozcon this year? I can't go. I'll be in Mexico.

RE: Analytics package beside google analytics
I recommend taking Avinash's course. He is well known here on SEOmoz. He's on the home page of SEOMOZ.org
-
RE: Does buying thousands of Facebook Fans/Likes affect SEO?
As far as I know it does NOT affect SEO. It does increase the likelyhood of someone linking to you though. "IF" you want to know if this is worth it, look at your Google Analytics and see if people are converting on your website. Measure your FB and Twitter visits and assign a value to it.
My point here is not to focus on "will Likes and Tweets increase rankings". My point is "Do those Likes and Tweets turn into conversions".
Here is a secret of mine. Social Media does land me business, but not as much as Google Adwords. Adwords KILLS social media in my clients' industries. My clients only care about more money in the bank, not about FB Likes and Tweets.
LEARN how to use GA.
-
RE: Analytics package beside google analytics
I don't think I would trust any free analytics from anyone else besides Google. If I didn't have GA, then I would pay for Adobe's (formerly Omniture) sitecatalyst or IBM's COreMetrics
-
RE: Two link building proposals, which one is better?
With all the penalties happening to everybody, I would go the low-risk way. ESPECIALLY if your site is already profitable.

For Newbies! | Matt Cutts on "How does Google use human raters in web search?"
I answer many questions here in Q&A. Instead of helping one individual, I thought this would help many newbies understand how Google uses human raters for web search. Watch Matt and learn why you should not SPAM or make sorry titles.
