I wouldn't use that as a good SEO link building example. This looks like a little grey hat SEO. "If" I were the webmaster of that site, I would <nofollow>all of them so Google could see I wasn't trying to manipulate rankings. I wouldn't say it's bad, but it's definitely not something I would do. Besides, there's hardly any content. There's only about 9 sentences.</nofollow>

You need to learn about the SEO Tools available here in SEOmoz. Put every URL you can in here and tweak until you get an A.

RE: Looking for advice on rewriting page that is currently ranked.
When I built 30 landing pages, my 1st goal was to get them indexed. Since I wanted to show my client that I was working hard, I built more quantity than quality. Once I finished building the landing pages that had average content, I went back and rewrote all 30 landing pages. I have more images, way more relative content, and the readers still love it. I wrote every landing page for the user, not necessarily for Google. I was more interested in conversions than ranking higher. When my rankings went higher, my conversions had already increased.
Write for conversions.

RE: Would like to test other words besides "subscribe"
SEOmoz uses "Sign Up". A/B against that.

RE: Will changing the title tags cause me to lose rankings?
I think this looks WAY better than your other one. I'll give you a thumbs up because you're learning.
-
RE: Will changing the title tags cause me to lose rankings?
You're over analyzing this. If your home page is the only page that ranks, you have problems. My website has 28% of incoming visits to the home page. 71% is to the landing pages.
BUILD highly relevant landing pages and write KICK ASS content for those landing pages.
This to me looks spammy: Austin Office Space For Lease | Austin Commercial Real Estate Properties | Retail Space For Rent | Austin Tenant Advisors
Obviously you are trying to keyword stuff.
I would write something clickable like this: Office Space for Rent in Austin for Commercial & Retail. Get Rates.
-
RE: Will changing the title tags cause me to lose rankings?
Then start building quality links with anchor text include "Lease, Properties, Rent, Retail" in them.
-
RE: Will changing the title tags cause me to lose rankings?
I really don't worry about it that much. I recommend to just do what is best for your customer and focus on conversions.
I literally copied and pasted from the SERP one of my pages. This is for the KW phrase "Ship car to Germany".
Shipping Car to Germany from USA - Save money shipping autos to ...
<cite>www.shipoverseas.com/us/ship-car/.../shipping-car-to-germany.html</cite>Shipping car to Germany from USA. Departure & Arrival Ports, Documents, Duty Tax. We ship cars for private individuals, active US military, and tourists.Notice that the keyword "Ship" is not in the title, but the related KW "Shipping" is. If I change the title tag to "Ship Car to Germany", then my rankings may be affected a little, but that's going to depend on where the competitors rank in Google's algorithm too. Now that I look at this, I have to change my title tag and description because I have better content on my page.

RE: .com or .co.uk
I wouldn't do that. I would use ALL my time focusing only on one site. Besides they are probably going to have the same c-block.
-
RE: .com or .co.uk
I agree 100%.
To me it comes down to branding and 301 one domain to the other.
-
RE: Best way to get more keywords to rank
If that's your only option, then yes. I don't know how else you would be able to rank for keywords that aren't in the content unless you are link building exact match anchor text.
-
RE: What are the best SEO agencies for link building?
Daniel, thanks for asking this question. I don't personally know any decent ones so I will be building a link building department soon. I really hope someone puts a decent company here.
One of the things I have done (which has worked) was article spinning. I wrote a bunch original content and had a Philippine company spin it for me. I don't really recommend it if someone is just starting out. I can PM yu the information.
What about these guys that Rand recommends? http://www.seomoz.org/article/recommended#link-building

RE: I need help with drastic SERP difference between Bing and Google
Submit a site map to bing. Use GWT for google and use Bing webmaster Tool for bing info. Bing has it's own ranking algorithm.
We can't really help you more than that because you haven't given us enough information. Sounds like an ecommerce site though.
-
RE: Will changing the title tags cause me to lose rankings?
Make sure you watch the part where Rand talks about over optimizing your title tag. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/6-changes-every-seo-should-make-before-the-over-optimization-penalty-hits-whiteboard-friday
Here is my rule and I think EVERYONE should remember it. 1st word in the title is the most important. 2nd word is the 2nd most important. The last word in the title tag is the least important. Anything above 65 character is wasting time. Make your title tag enticing enough that people want to click it. Put your keyword and a call to action.
-
RE: Purchasing Quality Backlinks
Here are two I recommend.
BBB - Better Business Bureau - About $400. The good thing is that you can buy credibility by getting this.
Yahoo Directory - $300/yr (I think)
I agree with Boodreaux. business.com and botw are fine too. There used to be discounts on some of these.

RE: How to SEO a website that is being help back by duplicate content?
You are mixing up terminology.
<noindex>- applies to the entire webpage or website.</noindex>
<nofollow>- applies to links</nofollow>
-
RE: Are they going to deindex everyone?
Alan, I like most of your responses. A fat thumbs up for you! I don't risk getting my clients' websites. Imagine me losing all the income? I had a talk with my client that I can get him to the top by creating a little shady things (spam) OR I could take the long hard road. We took the long hard road which was based off his decision to retire in the next two years. We can't afford to get Google smacked.
@Gareth, not everyone spams or over-optimizes. I definitely don't over optimize. It lowers conversions because the content becomes unreadable. ACTUALLY, my sites are ranking higher now so I am glad this is happening.
-
RE: How to SEO a website that is being help back by duplicate content?
I'm a little confused about what you are trying to accomplish, but I'll give it a shot.
If you have a website that you want to ONLY rank in Spain, go to GWT > sit configuration > settings > Geographic target > Spain. "IF" you do this, nothing on this site will show anywhere else except in http://www.google.es/. "IF" you are trying to sell property in Spain to an American, then don't do this because you're listings will never come out in Google.com.
If you are having a duplicate content problem, then rel=canonical it using a plugin in your CMS. http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/rel-canonical-html-head/
-
RE: How serious are the Duplicate page content and Tags error?
Drupal probably has many SEO plugins that have this feature. It should be free like this one: http://drupal.org/node/373971
Here is Matt Cutts talking about it. http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/rel-canonical-html-head/
-
RE: Should you target non-plural if you are ranking highly for plural kw?
I would base the decision by conversion rates and/or what puts more money in your bank account. That's my answer.
-
RE: How serious are the Duplicate page content and Tags error?
Rel Canonical!
Your CMS may have a solution. If not, then there should be a paid plugin.
-
RE: SEO Penalties for Splitting Page for Two Store Locations
Sounds like you or your client is trying to game Google. I would put BOTH locations on one page, like a "Contact Us" page. The product and services should be stand alone.
-
RE: Indexing techniques
IF your goal is to get your webpages indexed, then why not create a sitemap and submit it in GWT? I don't understand why you would go through all that trouble to get your webpages indexed.
-
RE: How do I start trying to get links from blogs
Careful here. I heard Matt Cutts say this was misinterpreted. He says reciprocal link that are bad are between non-related sites and normally link directories.
I do some reciprocal linking ONLY between highly relevant sites.
-
RE: Backlink reports in OSE, the good and the bad!
I agree with Alan.
Use OSE as a guide. It's about the best thing we have for competitor analysis. I have MUCH more information in GWT.
-
RE: Word count
You have thin content. It's not enticing. I would beef it up. Also, your last sentence doesn't make sense. "I am using the key phrase the recommended about of times "
-
RE: Do you think Seomoz is worth the monthly fee if you're not a professional SEO ?
There are many people like me who help newbies like you. I enjoy helping out answering questions in my spare time. Once in a while, I have to ask questions too.
-
RE: Which of these six keyword combinations would you go after?
Hotel Perth because adwords is showing the exact match while insights (i think) is showing broad match. My decision is based of exact match. This is only based off the information you have given
EDIT: I meant to say Hotels Perth.

RE: Domain advice needed, please
If your target is strictly in the UK, then I would say .co.uk. BUT we don't have any other information as BoB says.
-
RE: Mass article submission
I agree. You'll be notified in GWT. Forget about trying to get you site in DMOZ. Submit it and forget about it. I have been trying to get into DMOZ for a couple years now.
BUILD quality content on your landing page. Watch this WBF: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-new-onpage-optimization-whiteboard-friday
-
RE: Should you guest post on a site that allows unrelated anchor text?
I don't think it'll hurt if you only do one. You'll get one more domain linking to you. Post one and move one. What I would probably do is write some kick ass content on my own blog.
-
RE: Separate domain name for a subdomain?
What I would probably do is build the whole thing out on the test.example.com and move the website from there to example.com.

RE: Google notice of unnatural links - no penalty
Read this: http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo
Also, as part of your subscription, watch the webinars. Also there are TONS of link building tactics in SEOmoz. You can spend days. You may want to buy the MOZCON video bundle to accelerate your process.
-
RE: Google notice of unnatural links - no penalty
Your rankings won't come back right away. You'll have to wait for a couple crawls from Google Bot.
What is the difference between finding blog posts, reading them and commenting and building "real links"
Most are
-
RE: Google notice of unnatural links - no penalty
No I'm not sure. The only way to be sure is to contact Google through GWT and hope they reply. Tell them you are taking these of because you didn't know any better. If there are any other paid ads that you see in GWT, investigate them and let us look at them here in this thread.
But if I was Google, that would be a BIG warning to stop doing it. So I don't know if your site will be affected, but don't repeat the process. INSTEAD go write KICK ASS content and build 'real' links to those pages. Also leverage your blog. I see that it's on a completely different domain. http://plastic-bins.com/akro-mils-bins-vs-quantum-storage-bins/ Why not have it on the same site under /blog?
-
RE: Google notice of unnatural links - no penalty
Get your add off that. Armageddon has nothing to do with plastic bins. Also, you obviously did this for link building purposes. Perhaps one of your competitors reported you. You said you didn't get any paid links? In my book you did. You paid for an <a href=""></a>. To me that's a paid link. "IF" you paid for your ad on a relative website, then I think you would be okay. If Armageddon is not converting into buyer, get rid of it.

RE: Moved Up in SERPS & Traffic, Need Help Converting
Dude, i thought this was a joke at first seeing that you don't even have BUY buttons on your product pages. As a Mozzer who helps many people here in Q&A, I got annoyed that "I" couldn't find your buy buttons. So I checked another page and the same thing happened. I had to FINALLY drill down into a model # to get a buy button. can you image a searcher? They would simply hit the back button because there is NO CALL TO ACTION.

Change your site to something like uLine: http://www.uline.com/BL_767/Side-Loader-Tape-Dispensers?keywords=Tape%20Dispensers%20Hand%20Held

RE: Facebook Like button issue
Page views are a waste of time. Focus on what is driving conversions.
Swap out ShareThis for AddThis and see if there are changes. I use Addthis and have no problems in GA
-
RE: Separate domain name for a subdomain?
Would that screw up SEO if we forwarded that domain to www.mydomain.com/social or social.mydomain.com and built links to that?
If it's a new subdomain without link juice, just transfer the files to a folder.
I don't know if this will help out at all, but I'm putting it in here to demonstrate different softwares.
1) http://www.shipoverseas.com/ MAGENTO
2) http://www.shipoverseas.com/blog/ WORDPRESS
These are two completely different softwares, but the menus are the same. As you stated, you have different menus. WHY? What softwares are you using and why not just "bridge" them with a plugin?
1) Do you think it would be professional to have the social site there with a different look?
NO. I think more people would stop and wonder if they are on the same website.
I am looking forward to your response and would like to help

RE: Links from erotic domains
What you are talking about is one way an evil marketeer can take out the competition. If abc.com was about peanut butter cookies but there were more porno links pointing to abc.com than peanut butter related keywords, the search engine would probably think the site was a porn site. If xyz.com has a clean link profile and some dirty marketer comes by and builds porno links, then the site may become a porno site for a search engine.
The only thing more evil than that is a DDoS attack.
-
RE: Google notice of unnatural links - no penalty
Post your domain, I want to take a look.
-
RE: Google inconsistent in display of meta content vs page content?
I agree on this: "Many people aren't in DMOZ, and Google will still alter their meta titles and descriptions to match the search query"
That was my situation.
-
RE: How to make FB comments crawlable by Google? <noscript>?</noscript>
There is a post on youmoz about it, but it seemed a little shaky. This ws about 6 months ago though. Sorry, I don't have an answer.
-
RE: Google inconsistent in display of meta content vs page content?
Make sure your title is not nearly identical to your other titles. It took months for me to get rid of that STUPID problem! I went through the source code, changed the titles, built links to that specific page... then 3 months later it finally worked.

RE: What is a better mobile domain from an SEO perspective an m.example.com or using your regular domain with user agent detection?
What this video on Matt Cutts and consider your question answered. (m.example.com)
-
RE: Youtube, Video SEO, & my site
I highly doubt you'll get popped for duplicate content because content is going to be on "your" site and the other content is going to be on "youtubes" site. if you are looking to get traffic from YouTube and that's your marketing strategy, that's fine. If not, then sign up for Vimeo Pro: http://vimeo.com/pro
SeoMoz uses Wisita, but I think it's too much.
-
RE: What is the best way to internally link via images?
That's a tough one. I don't know if search engines will get confused with alt=XYZ" on your ACB page. I would optimize the product page itself and forget about the 4 logos if they are dynamically driven (not static).
-
RE: Is using splash pages considered cloaking?
Uhhh, I don't know how to answer this without sounding mean, but your site (I don't care how strong it is) is not going to convince Google to make an acception like they do for the President of the United States. You will beat yourself before you ever get started.
What Matt Cutts. He writes the algorithm for Google.
-
RE: How to make FB comments crawlable by Google? <noscript>?</noscript>
I use Facebook Comments on almost every webpage on my site. Yes it's an iFrame, but I stick my URL in the Facebook Comments so it counts as a link and people are "talking" about me.
Here's my proof. Run OSE on my contact page: http://www.shipoverseas.com/us/contact-us.html I have 57 FB Shares and 0 Likes (because I don't have a Like button on that page).
Then run OSE on my home page: 68 Shares 167 Likes.
Google knows that people are "talking" about me on my contact page. But in reality it's me slapping my URL into the reply.
My point is "if" you are trying to turn FB comments into HTML with noscript to rank higher (because that's what you're really trying to do), you don't need to do it. Write kickass content and more people will leave Facebook Comments and keep slapping your URLs in there.
I think I should write a YouMoz Post about this.
