Chat through link building best practices and outreach techniques.

  • Hi All, Ive been slowly building links to some of my inner pages. Ive finally reached page 1 for a specific keyword search. Should I continue building links to this page so I dont lose position? I have a campaign setup through seomoz to keep track. Thanks!

  • I have blogs/news sites on every one of my clients' websites (each representing a different business within the same industry - self storage). On each of these blog sites, I have a writer who places about 3-5 exact keyword match links (varying anchor text) to give interlink juice to the other off-site businesses owned by the client. Each of these blogs receive about five posts per week. I am sure this is mega-over-optimizing and a stupid thing to do considering penguin. So, my questions are: Moving forward - 1.  Should i stop adding so many blog articles to each site? 2.  How many interlinking anchor texts should I use per blog? 3.  Should I go back and either get rid of all those interlinks on past blogs or just trash the blog articles altogether? Please help if you can - I very much appreciate the responses best bd

  • Hi Guys, Not looking for a debate on whether or not to use link removal services (linkdelete.com, deletebacklinks.com etc), I'm just interested in hearing any feedback you may have after having used one. What was your experience with the service? Do you believe it helped you recover from a penalty? Cheers.

  • I've been keeping an eye on the Linkscape update calendar and am a bit confused! There was meant to be an update yesterday, but Open Site Explorer is still showing "Last index update: 8/14/12". When will the new data reach OSE? Been doing lots of link building and want to know if my efforts have been worth it! Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks! Alex

  • Hi, I have great content on my website which I would like to build external links to from other websites.  I am told this will increase my domain authority and ultimately help search engine ranking positions.  I have very limited time in my hands and now thinking of outsourcing the link building component to a specialist. Is this a good way of doing it? Could you recommend professional link builders?

  • Hi, I am wondering if there is any point building backlinks etc.. to ebay listings? How do I improve them in terms of SEO apart from the listing titles?

  • So with all these updates hitting sites left, right and center. Now you have your desired rank on Google, do you stop link building for that project? I can see some positives in this You will not add links that will get hit by future updates. If you do get hit in future updates you have less links to remove. Obviously it an outstanding link came along from BBC or CNN you would go for that.  But press releases etc would you now stop anything like that?

  • Just started working on a new pharma based client in the UK. I have been carrying out some link profiling on page one results for several key terms and have discovered that almost all of the sites ranking in top positions appear to have all kinds of rubbish links (links in irrelevant content / articles, links in forum signatures, single page blogs and sites that appear to have little association with their products). These links seem to be about the only links some of them have yet they rank top! It seems a very difficult prospect to build a decent white hat link profile if everyone else is STILL capitalizing on the sort of rubbish links that Google is supposed to be getting tough on. Are online pharmacies the world that Google forgot or is this a really common issue?

  • Just a thought. With the way pagerank works and passing link juice evenly across all your links. Would it make sense to structure your site so that each page passes your all your link juice from lets say your homepage to another page. Then that page would contain all the link juice from the homepage. Then do the same thing with the next pages. For instance Homepage - linkjuice 10 link1 - follow link2 rel=nofollow link3 rel=nofollow link4 rel=nofollow link5 rel=nofollow Link1 - linkjuice 10 link1 rel=nofollow link2 - follow link3 rel=nofollow link4 rel=nofollow link5 rel=nofollow Link2 - linkjuice 10 link1 rel=nofollow link2 rel-nofollow link3 - follow link4 rel=nofollow link5 rel=nofollow Link3 - linkjuice 10 link1 rel=nofollow link2 rel-nofollow link3 rel=nofollow link4 - follow link5 rel=nofollow Link4 - linkjuice 10 link1 rel=nofollow link2 rel-nofollow link3 rel=nofollow link4 rel=nofollow link5 - follow and so on. Theoretically would'nt this help pass a ton if not all of link juice to your main links? Sorry if this is a dumb question, it's late and sometimes my mind goes places 🙂

  • I have a blog on interior decoration and I have made a Wordpress Plugin which is not at all related to the niche of my blog...I have created this plugin in the hope that I might get backlinks due to this...but am not sure whether I should keep the plugin documentation page on some page of the blog itself like www.example.com/blog/plugin-page/ or on some subdomain like plugin-page.example.com

  • We have a potential new client who did their own SEO about 6-7 years ago. They ranked really well for years then obviously recently got hit. Some of the links they have are shocking, directories, articles sites etc.  They did not use links farms but the links do not look great at all.   The problem is they do not have log ins to remove these links manually themselves.  Asking for a reconsideration with Google will not get us anywhere due to more recent link building issues we are trying to resolve. They have sent removal requests at least 10 times to these sites but no response.  Has anyone overcome these types of issues previously and can give any tips? This would be a good client for us so keen to see what I can do to get them on-board.

  • From a link building perspective, is a link from a site that's completely flash any good? Can google crawl flash sites at all, or it a waste of time trying to get a link from a flash site?

  • I have a client with several businesses within the same industry - Each of these businesses have their own websites. So, I have a few questions with this in mnd: **When using anchor text (exact keyword phrases) on his website pages, how many links are safe to use per page?  And if I want to interlink between his businesses, is it better to use exact keyword phrases to link or just a straight URL link for those other businesses? **When guest blogging or using an external blog of our creation, is it best to use exact keyword phrases (and how many) or URL links? I want to make sure I am not over linking - help? thanks a lot

  • In the article, "Long List of Link Searches", Rand recommends: "At Google and others, it often helps to show 100 results per page and have the maximum "grouping" of results from the same site. That way, you can find all of the most relevant pages on a particular domain with ease." Can someone please share with me just how to customize the various search engine views this way?

  • I know is difficult but it's worth to try. I am looking for a community eager to exchange links. I am in the venue rent for weeding and conferences in London   and I would be delighted to find other people to exchange the links. At the moment my page is PR4 I have seen communities for games where they exchange anything, why don't link exchange!!!!

  • Hi all, I've been hired as the chief marketer at a (very) high traffic web company. Ironically, I don't have much SEO experience but I have been able to figure out PPC, on-page SEO and SEO content generation pretty well over the last few months. What I don't get is link building. My question is this; we're trying to move from the 3-4 SERP slot to the 1-2 SERP slot for a short list of keywords. My boss asked me to get busy with link building. Our competitor has over 2 million external links and we have roughly 60 thousand. What do I do? How do I start? Is there a legit, white hat way to get this job moving? Any insights would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Hi everyone, I am a new danish SEOMOZ member currently living in Angola, Africa. I have created the site AngolaCarro.com  - an online marketplace for cars. The website is in Portuguese, as this is the main language in Angola. I am struggling finding good Angolan/Portuguese sites for solid back links and I would be extremely thankful if anyone could give SEO advice on how/where to build strong links from Portuguese language sites. Will using dropmylink.com to create back links from English language sites to my Portuguese site be a waist of time or will it have a SEO effect? Thanks in advance and have a great Sunday. Ken

  • Hello, I know this has been answered in the past but we have been doing press releases multiple times per week, and have been getting Great referrals, at the same time our link count is climbing. Can this have a negative effect on the overall site? Should we be doing these less often? Thanks very much!!!

  • Hello I have a few competitors ranking VERY well for exact keyword match URL. They have a single hosted page, when a customer clicks to buy inventory ir re-directs to there main url. Will google eventually catch on to this? Excellent position, very little backlink/seo work.  Is this something that I should also look into for my own site? Thank you!

  • Hi All, I check webmaster multiple times on a daily basis, and I noticed some links that I have not worked on and look a bit spammy, is it possible for people to purposely pont bad links in my direction? If that is the case is there a way for me to remove them myself? Also the number of total backlinks are very different in Webmaster and my Open Site Explorer, is this normal? Thanks again !

  • So our site has these user profiles and when they leave a comment on a page it links to the users profile. Now there is no way there is spamming with these profiles because they can't use outside links on them so I was wondering what peoples thoughts are of making these user profiles no follow. I'm asking because some pages are coming back with 110 or more links on a single page because of the profiles so I was thinking of making the profiles no follow since I don't see them effecting too much of the site, but I was wondering what others thoughts were on this one.

  • Hello, Is it normal for Organic traffic to show for keywords or phrases that I am not even targeting? All of this traffic spiked within a couple days and I cant figure out why? I ve been building backlinks, doing all the correct things. Just took me by surprise. Typically when you begin showing organically is it usually a slow progression? Thanks so much!

  • I have 3 domains that are in the same niche as my main site and not connected in any way. Now my question is should I just link to my main site from each of them on a page that is relevant to my main Keywords or should I 301 them to the site? I am thinking that building a link to my main site would have more effect than 301's. Thanks in advance!

  • I have a client who is willing to spend an additional 5k into his SEO campaign. I was curious if anyone has any other ideas on spending this in terms of link building. Human edited directories work really well and i have seen some huge successes. Unfortunately i have gotten stuck in purchasing these and would like some fresh ideas. Content is a no brainier.

  • I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a quality SEO company that focuses primarily on building links on high quality sites? So many of the SEO firms are too slick with their sales people and content analysis and research and reports & B.S. What I'd like is an honest company who will simply help me acquire high quality links. Any SEO companies out there that can help??? Most SEO companies are also way too expensive. I'm looking for quality @ a value. Can anyone help?

  • I know that after the recent slate of Google updates, many free directories got taken down. We've typically used the list of directories placed on SEOmoz (www.seomoz.org/directories).  Before adding a site to a directory, we always check to see if it is indexed by Google. Is this still a safe option or should directories be avoided?

  • Hello, We wanted to start hosting our own blog and was wondering (long term) if we are using embedding links to our inner pages in our blog entries if it would be a problem with Google long term?  We have a designer that suggestes a custome look to match the site, and leave the wordpress plugin. Should we continue to contribute to blogger, and wordpress (free) if we are hosting our own blog? How important is a branded blog name?  We were going to host it and name it xxxxxx.com/ourblog Thanks so much!!

  • Hello A competitor of mine has a bunch of branded terms that they purchased, with backlinks point to their main site, is there a specific reason they do this? If I analyze the links on the "branded url" theres it has very little juice/authority? Is it worth it to do this? ex  www.siteCOUPON.com. or www.mainsite.biz I have a .ca and something similar to our site re-directing through register.com in Iframe. But would they just be using those terms because it has high search volume? Would this help me in anyway? Thank you!

  • Hi everyone, Hope your day is super fantastic. I am working on a new content publishing checklist. Once we publish a new article or blog post, what are the sites/ links/ actions to take to distribute the content and "get it out there". I looked around on here, but couldn't find one. Let's start a great discussion and then I will compile the answers and publish. Something like: Social:

  • Getting links has become very difficult task for me. Recently i have started a website on Depression and Anxiety. My campaign steps: 1)Hired a doctor to write stuff on my website. 2)After that we did 100 more articles for article marketing. 3)Submitted content to top article directories.. All links to only 1 anchor (domainname.com). I haven't promoted my domain with main anchor anywhere. DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO 😞 Can anyone suggest me some link building methods so that i can do Good SEO for my new site?
