  • Hi MOZ, I have a site that is aimed at the English speaking market of the United Arab Emirates. The language tag is currently set to lang="en-GB" and the og:locale also set to en_GB. The domain is a .com and aimed at the whole world. Should I be trying to target en-AE and en_AE for these tags instead of GB?

  • Hi for the past few years I have been running a personal training company from the following domain name www.smpt.me. This has done well in the past and so has some authority in google as it was ranking well on page 1. Over the last 6 months I have set up a new website with some new business partners using the domain name www.healthbyscience.co.uk. This new website, whilst still a personal training website, has different content to the original. We want to use the new website rather than the old one and therefore my question is how I can use the old website to assist with the new website. Thanks

  • Hi there, The keyword explorer tool has been malfunctioning for the last week. Moz barely seem to have any data (Search Volume) for any keywords I search for, particularly for suggested keywords. It's rather frustrating as I can't explore any keyword opportunities using the Moz keyword tool... I'm based in the UK BTW. Thanks I've attached a screenshot as an example. ZX3Kw3H.jpg

  • We are planning to localize our website by launching CCTLD. But there is a little confusion about some aspects, which are: Should we track location and take our visitors to their native domain? Or do we need to take our visitors to .com domain and show a Popup, if they want to visit the native region website? What is the best case study for localization?

  • Hi I have seen a big drop in a keyword going from position 3 to out of the top 100. The only thing I can see that went wrong, was an issue with broken images - could this be the reason for the drop? Becky

  • Realistically - what's a "good" search visibility score?  I'm working on a site that has been around less than a year. We are doing 3 blogs a week with carefully selected keywords. I know it will take time and lots of SEO work - but I'm interested in any ideas on what I should shoot for.  Thanks for any thoughts!  (Also not a local listing or anything - national search.)

  • Hi Moz community, I've been trying to do some on-site work and noticed that our product pages reviews may not be totally optimized. It used to be that all of the text from the reviews appeared in the actual code of the page, but now none of that text appears, so it may not be getting crawled.  The change was most likely released when we had an item page redesign.  However, when I Google a review snippet, it does seem to come up, so maybe Google is crawling that data despite it not being SEO optimized. Is this really an issue if the review snippets are showing up in search, there's been a lot of talk that Google is now better at crawling javascript. Thanks

  • Is anyone else experiencing troubles with Keyword Explorer?  We have several keyword lists and they keep getting frozen on "Gathering Metrics" for days, even if we had results for those particular keywords previously.  Just curious to know if this is a pervasive problem and if there's some kind of an easy fix.

  • So this is a very old problem, but I'm finally getting around to trying to figure it out.  My site experienced a dramatic organic traffic drop from Google (-40%) on May 17th 2014.  It then drops another 30% on May 19th 2014.  See graphs.  According to Moz these two dates correlate with Payday Loan 2.0 and Panda 4.0. Panda makes complete sense, as this site (www.ausedcar.com) has a large amount of content that is syndicated across other sites (used car inventory is essentially the same everywhere on the Internet).  Payday Loan on the other hand, which seems to be the primary traffic drop doesn't make any sense at all.  Is it possible I started getting hit by Panda on the 17th and then it completed on the 19th?  I know the dates for algorithm changes are not perfect. Next, assuming it is Panda, what are some things you guys have done to help with this?  As I mentioned this content is duplicated all over the Internet, so it seems like Google arbitrarily picks winners and losers (my site is twenty years old!).  I know I need unique content, but not sure how exactly to do that besides rewriting words so it doesn't appear duplicate.

  • I've got a UK-based site with about 10,000 backlinks, according to majestic, and just 4 according to Open Site Explorer? Confusing! Rivals tend to have more - 28,000 in the case of our nearest competitors. So I'm not sure the best way to go about building backlinks? Or if it's worth actively seeking to build them? The index page of the site has a Moz PA of 45 (DA = 35) and I'm looking for any ways to increase these - need to get the DA up to 73 to compete with largest rivals. One of our main rivals has about 60 .edu links - would be great to emulate that, but I'm also not sure how you go about this? i.e. when you spot a good backlink someone else has, how would you begin the process of also getting that link?

  • I had a problem with a lot of crawl errors (on Google Search Console) a while back, due to the removal of a shopping cart. I thought I'd dealt with this & Google seemed to agree (see attached pic), but now they're all back with a vengeance! The crawl errors are all the old shop pages that I thought I'd made clear weren't there anymore. The sitemaps (using Yoast on Wordpress to generate these) all updated 16 Aug but the increase didn't happen till 18-20. How do I make it clear to Google that these pages are gone forever? • We have a 302 redirection on some of our pages which involved login/account pages. So, some pages are 302 (temporarily) redirected to the login pages which is common especially in e-commerce sites (see screenshot). For SEO practices, what would be best to address this (if this an issue)? a. Block the login/account pages using robots.txt? b. Block the login/account pages using meta noindex? c. Leave them as is since it's a non-issue. d. Other recommendations, please specify in the answers.. Thanks! 2S9xn

  • I was doing some research today and came across a business that has 5 reviews, all 5 stars. For some reason, their average is showing as 4.8, instead of a perfect 5. Looking at some other businesses, I see one with 4 5-stars, 1 4-star, and 1 1-star. 25/6 = 4.1666666.  That would round to 4.2, but Google lists them as 4.3. Is Google just bad at math, or are they using some other factor in calculating these averages?

  • The site I am working on did not have their site submitted to Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmaster Tools).  I submitted the site and a sitemap that auto updates.  Google is crawling the site daily (about 30 pages a day).  Under Search Traffic > Links to Your Site it shows no data is availible.  I thought it was because it was a newly submitted site, but it has been two months now. Moz seems to have the same issue.  Moz does show inbound links, but their are some that we think should really help us that are not shown.  For instance, the Dallas Morning News wrote this article.  They have a high DA and PA.  Also, iliveindallas.com has an article about us that is still on the front page.  That was a few weeks ago but also does not show up on Moz or Google SC. We are trying to be selective about the links we are getting.  That they are follow links from reputable sites.  Worried that both Google and Moz are not showing them.

  • Just checking in - i'm working on a site with tons of broken backlinks from high authority sites. For instance, I've discovered that some 90% of their backlinks are broken, and these are from highly recognizable, name brand magazines, newspapers, blogs and the like. Right now, the site has a Domain Authority of 48 (better than most in the industry from what i am learning) yet as the site has been around for years and has gone through 5 redesigns, there is an absolute ton of solid inbound backlinks that are getting 404's. Using Screaming Frog (list mode) I've also learned there are a ton of 301's that turn out to be redirecting to 404 pages so that also starts to add up. I always knew this was a problem / opportunity and I've always considered it a high priority to fix (301) broken links of this sort to improve ranking (you know, using htaccess or WordPress Redirection tools) -- and to avoid multiple redirects wherever possible. In fact, I consider it a basic all-win, no-lose strategy. I always assumed this was the case and I also assume this will continue to be so. However, as a professional, I always want to double check my assumptions every now and then... Is this still considered solid strategy? Are there any issues that one should look out for?

  • Html Improvements in Webmaster shows many as Duplicate Titles. As attached they are not duplicates we made a way to make text hyperlinks if the name matches other objects in our site. How can we deal in such case for Google not to this it as 2 different URl's rather they are one. As the ones with ?alinks are just hyperlink URL's Say we have a name as "James" and he has a biography in our site. Say "Gerald" has a Bio as well and we talk about "James" in "Geralds" bio the word "James" gets a hyperlink automatically so when anyone clickes "James" it goes to his bio. k5jDM

  • We're using a lot of videos on our new website (www.4com.co.uk), but our immediate discovery has been that this has a negative impact on load times. We use a third party (Vidyard) to host our videos but we also tried YouTube and didn't see any difference. I was wondering if there's a way of using multiple videos without seeing this load speed issue or whether we just need to go with a different approach. Thanks all, appreciate any guidance! Matt

  • Help!  I woke up this morning to a message from Google that says: "Spammy structured data for http://www.riddelllaw.com/ might be dropped from search results."  I am in over my head a bit and not sure what to do.  I looked at Webmaster tools and it says something about the author in the testimonials on my page.  The testimonials page is just a Wordpress Plugin - Testimonials Showcase. Is the "spammy" result just indicated by errors in webmaster tools? Or could there be something else I am missing?  Is this something I can fix on my own or should I hire someone who actually knows what they are doing?  Thank you!!

  • I have gone through a website with 81 DA; where its link equity back-links with highest DA of 70. Hardly 5 back-links 60 to 70 DA and just 25 root domains. This seems very unusual to me. Can someone clarify this for me? Can a website with low DA back-links can make high DA? If so what could be other major contributing factors for this?

  • Hi all, hope you're all good and having a wonderful Friday morning. At the moment we have over 20,000+ live products on our ecomms site, however, all of the products are using non-seo friendly URL's (/product?p=1738 etc) and we're looking at deploying SEO friendly url's such as (/product/this-is-product-one) etc. As you could imagine, making such a change on a big ecomms site will be a difficult task and we will have to take on A LOT of content changes, href-lang changes, affiliate link tests and a big 301 task. I'm trying to get some analysis together to pitch the Tech guys, but it's difficult, I do understand that this change has it's benefits for SEO, usability and CTR - but I need some more info. Keywords in the slugs - what is it's actual SEO weight? Has anyone here recently converted from using parameter based URL's to keyword-based slugs and seen results? Also, what are the best ways of deploying this? Add a canonical and 301? All comments greatly appreciated! Brett

  • Hi, The service we provide has not so many searches per month. A long tail keyword that describes the service well has at the most 400 searches per month. We wrote a post for this keyword and we ranked number 1 for many months. Now we're on page 2 and I the truth is we stopped writing blog posts because we were raking well for our best keywords. I added a few new posts and lost ranking on my top keywords so I gave up, deleted them and recover the rankings for the keywords I wanted the most. The problem is that I have lost these positions and I know we're supposed to be updating the blog regularly. What would you suggest? Should we keep writing about the same thing and use rel canonical? There aren't that many keywords related to what we offer. I appreciate any ideas.

  • Hi all, I have a client that currently has a .com domain that ranks in both the US and the UK for various search terms. They have identified a need to provide different information for UK and US visitors which will require 2 versions of all pages. If we set up a .co.uk domain and keep the .com obviously that will be a brand new UK site which will have zero rankings. Any suggestions as to the best way to introduce this second version of the content without losing UK rankings? Thanks

  • Hi everyone 🙂 I'm currently in the midst of optimizing a Scandinavian E-commerce site. I have a few questions, that hopefully someone will be able to help me get answered. Firstly, GoogleBots should be able to recognize "ø" as "oe", "æ" as "ae" and "å" as "aa" in the URL title. I've noticed that Moz' On-page grader does not support this unfortunately - has something changed or do Scandinavians just receive a little less love than the English? Secondly, how does one avoid keyword stuffing on E-commerce sites? The products that are displayed in category pages all make use of the same keyword that is targeted for that category. As such, some pages have 40+ mentions of the keyword, although in reality there are less than 15 (the rest being in the product names). Any tips or tricks on how to get this optimized or does Google simply recognize the site as an E-commerce site and somewhat ignores keyword stuffing - as long as the website has sufficient content? Thirdly, has something happened to Moz' Open Site Explorer? It seems like something has changed and when I checked for backlinks for the site today, only 3 was found. I know for a fact that many many more exist (which other tools also confirm when they scrape the site). Looking forward to hearing from all of you! Best, Mark

We would appreciate the advice here of anyone that is unbiased and unaffiliated in providing an credible recommendations. Thanks so much!

  • On my furniture e-commerce website, most of my product pages have a name of a colour that no user would naturally search for, such as: Duck Egg Chesterfield Sofa Kingfisher Velvet Queen Anne Armchair If I switched all the product names to simplified names such as Blue Linen Chesterfield Sofa there would be a lot of duplicate page titles, as there are many different shades of Blue linen chesterfield sofa's on my website. I am therefore thinking that I should change the name of each of my products to something like: Duck Egg Blue Linen Chesterfield Sofa Kingfisher Blue Velvet Queen Anne Armchair I would then be able to rank for terms such as "Blue Chesterfield Sofa" and "Blue Velvet Queen Anne Armchair". My question is, will I have a better chance of ranking if the keyword I'm targeting comes at the start of the page title? for example Blue Linen Chesterfield Sofa, Duck Egg Blue Velvet Queen Anne Armchair, Kingfisher

  • Hello everyone! I currently work for a software company that sell's CRM software for product sellers and one of our options along with this service is a website builder option that can provide the client with a website with several different templates to choose from. Currently, we have over 500 clients using these website templates and I noticed that they are all under the same IP address. My question is, in terms of a backlinking effort, would it be beneficial if we included a link to our company's website on the footer on each of these templates? Example could be: Powered by: (company's name) and have the name a link to our site. I'm worried that this could be seen negatively by Google if we dofollowed these links or the fact that they are all under the same IP. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks

  • Hi Everyone, We are currently caught between a rock and a hard place with Magento and are wondering if anyone else had similar problems and could share their advice. Our Core_URL_Rewrite now containt 1.3 million records for an account that has 12000 products on 4 different store views. This has ballooned past the point that we are no longer able to reindex our URL Management. The option that is being suggested to us is to truncate the table and start over, though this will essentially kill our SEO for those pages.(Which as there are duplicates, I can only imagine how much they are going to be penalized by it) Would anyone have any advice other than truncating and starting over? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • FYI I'm a beginner within the company, so this might be a basic question, but ...I was going through open site explorer and checking www.partnermd.com for opportunities to reclaim links and I found a bunch of 404 pages that we never created that had nothing to do with the business. Out of curiousity, I plugged in one of the weird links like this one:http://www.partnermd.com/images/2015-best-space-heater-best-wers.html  into open site explorer and found several bad spammy links pointing to it. When I clicked on one of them I got a notice that the site might have been hacked.I did some research and it looks like Google doesn't penalize you for spammy links to 404 pages, but how do we prevent this from occurring in the first place if possible?
