  • Ive done a lot of internal linking before but its always been for other inner pages but now I need to do it for a websites homepage but this got me thinking if its even worth doing and should I be doing it at all? For the first question I was thinking that surely the homepage has more authority than any of my inner pages so how would internal links from inner pages help and for the second question Ive read a few posts like this Kissmetrics one here where it says you shouldnt do it. There are two types of links you should avoid using in your content: Homepage. Most sites have too many links to the homepage as it is. You would rather strengthen internal pages to boost the overall SEO of your site, rather than simply point more links at the homepage. https://blog.kissmetrics.com/commandments-of-internal-linking/ thoughts?

  • Sitemap.gz is being indexed and is showing up in SERP instead of actual pages. I recently uploaded my sitemap file - https://psglearning.com/sitemapcustom/sitemap-index.xml -  via Search Console.  The only record within the XML file is sitemaps.gz.  When I searched for some content on my site - here is the search https://goo.gl/mqxBeq -  I was shown the following search result, indicating that our GZ file is getting indexed instead of our pages. http://www.psglearning.com/catalog 1 http://www.psglearning.com ...www.psglearning.com/sitemapcustom/sitemap.gz... 1 https://www.psglearning.com/catalog/productdetails/9781284059656/ 1 https://www.psglearning.com/catalog/productdetails/9781284060454/ 1 ... My sitemap is listed at https://psglearning.com/sitemapcustom/sitemap-index.xml inside the sitemap the only reference is to sitemap.gz.  Should we remove the link the the sitemap.gz within the xml file and just serve the actual page paths?    <sitemapindex< span=""> xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"></sitemapindex<><sitemap></sitemap>https://www.psglearning.com/sitemapcustom/sitemap.gz<lastmod></lastmod>2017-06-12T09:41-04:00

  • Been mostly hanging around top of page two for the last couple of years for “Liverpool Wedding photographer” although got myself on page 1 for “Liverpool photographer” I have split the title of the page to target these two keywords. I took the Liverpool photographer off the title to see if it was being detrimental to the “Liverpool wedding photographer” I didn’t see no increase in ranking so put it back as I get a bit of commercial work from it. Since last year I have got onto page 1 at least three times around position 5-6. Within a week or two I start sliding down again and end up back at top of page two. I could understand this slow push out if my competitors were busy SEO wise but from what I have seen they are not. There is a guy using the keywords in URL and calls himself “Liverpool wedding photographer” last time I checked he literally had no links but is in the first 5 positions. I have I think a better link profile than every one else. Although I am on and off with Facebook and Instagram, (more off) so that probably isn’t helping. Although I have a colleague in the video side of things and he doesn’t use social media at all and it hasn’t harmed him. A few years ago I was burned quite badly by a total charlatan. He sunk my home page to page 4. He talked the talk about creating landing pages but his methods were shoddy to say the least. I can’t believe I was taken in by him, although I was only with him for 2 months. He was still using spammy link techniques to generate lots of toxic links for me! I disavowed all of his links and put the keywords back on the home page and was back to my usual top of page 2 position within a week. Since then I have disavowed all directory links and anything not wedding related. I have an article which ranks 1st or second for “Nikon CLS”. I have also another article of 2000 words or so on another reasonable placed photography website. A few links from other vendors or people I have taken photographs for. I have about 10 featured weddings with a link on 4 good weddings blogs. I don’t think a massive amount of blog comments although I have stopped doing this. If I look at most of the competitors these are their main links, with directories as well! Last winter I put a quite substantial article about documentary wedding photography on my home page.  I flew to number 2, although I photographed The World Transformed (the alternative labour conference in Liverpool). I got a lot of clicks to a gallery page (few thousand off social media} so I don’t know if that coincided with it. Same thing – watching the website go down a few positions every day until within just over a week or two I was about 4th  on page 2! Its like my website is on a spring which can push into page 1 but rebounds back to top of page 2. I am staring to worry that my site has been marked as a bad character in some way because I get what seems to be rough treatment from google compared to my peers. I have written I think 4 or 5 (1500 word) articles the last couple of months  talking about lenses and wedding photography related topics and Google pushed me back to page 1, peaking At position 5. I was there for a few weeks and then the slide happened again. Bit demoralised at the moment, what to do? Any help or pointers would be most appreciated. Best wishes. David.

  • Hi guys, We're noticing a few alternate hostnames for a website rearing their ugly heads in search results and I was wondering how everyone else handles them. For example, we've seen: alt-www.(domain).com test.(domain).com uat.(domain).com We're looking to ensure that these versions all canonical to their live page equivalent and we're adding meta robots noindex nofollow to all pages as an initial measure. Would you recommend a robots.txt crawler exclusion to these too? All feedback welcome! Cheers, Sean

  • Hello, I am new to the SEO world though I realize it's importance when trying to make your site noticed. I am working with a shopping cart (Pinnacle Cart)  and It has the fields to put in the data such as the meta tags, description keywords and whatnot. My problem is that I do not know how to use MOZ to strategize what keywords to use and how to populate them to the Google search engine. That said, someone told me that Descriptions for Section pages are far more important than keywords. Can anyone help or give me some insight on how to start this process? Once I have it all running, about how long will it take to propagate through Google? Thanks!

  • MozPro is highlighting some redirect chain issues with our domain that I do not recall ever setting up in our redirect list. In our Moz Pro Campaign I see the Site Crawl has flagged 36 Redirect Chain Issues. I understand how the redirect chain errors can happen but I do not recall ever manually redirecting our domain, yet I have http://stickylife.com, https://stickylife.com & https://www.stickylife.com all associated in one of our redirect chain errors. When looking at our redirect files I do not see any of these domain redirects and wonder how this has happened and how to fix it. It appears as though our HTTP and HTTPS is causing some redirection. I wonder if this is coming from our DNS settings?

  • My IT is convinced that we should build one for our webiste as we have an event page that changes content quite rapidly. It is an expensive implementation process. I googled around and don't see anything. Also everything I've learned about SEO, I've never seen this mentioned anywhere. Not sure where to position myself because of lack of knowledge/information. Anyone has experience or opinions? My natural suggestion would be to have excelling content on static pages that will have strong SERP regardless of archiving and the content that changes, will just keep changing and rank however it will. Or?

  • Hi there, I recently started looking into SEO and joined the Moz community. I'm trying to understand why my spam analysis score is so high (9/17). Our competitors look to have much lower spam scores so I'm wondering if this is negatively affecting our search engine rankings. Our website is www.tdgbs.com.au. We are a small accounting firm in a rural Australian community. I've read as much as I can find about the spam analysis score but am still unsure how to fix it. According to Moz, our website has the following spam flags: **Low MozTrust or Moz Rank Score, Large Site With Few Links, Small Proportion of Branded Links: **I understand that all of these in theory have to do with the fact that we have only one incoming link. We are working on this. What confuses me is that our main competitors also only have one or two incoming links and don't seem to raise this flag. Again, we are a small company in a small community so there are only really a small number of links we can cultivate before it gets too spammy. **Ratio of Followed to Nofollowed Subdomains/Domains: **Again, I'm guessing this has to do with the fact that we have only one incoming (followed) link, but again, our competitors don't seem to raise this flag. Is there a reason why only one link would raise this flag? **Thin Content: **We do have some short articles but I didn't think they would be short enough to warrant a "thin content" flag. Again, some of our competitors have pages that our just as short and don't have this flag. **Low Number of Internal Links: **We do have internal links, so I'm wondering if they're not getting picked up for some reason? I did go through and add a few more today, but I don't want it to be too overwhelming. **No Contact Info: **We do have contact info, and plenty of it, so I'm not sure why we're raising this flag. **Low Number of Pages Found: **We do have a decent number of pages (I would have thought), and again, no less than our competitors. I've tested on Google and it looks like it is getting a valid response to our pages. I've been tasked with improving our SEO relative to our competitors and I'm wondering if these flags have to do with the fact that we're ranking lower. Our website is relatively new (2 months) and our domain name is also newer than our competitors, so I'm wondering if that's impacting things. Any insight you could provide on how to reduce the spam score would be great. Thank you!

  • Hello, I'm Alexia and a few months ago (end of March) my site has been hacked: hackers have created more than 30.000 links in Japanese to sell tires. I've successfully removed the hack and after 14 days of struggle even decided to change the domain to Siteground as they've been really keen to help. I still have some problems and I desperately need your tips. In search console, Google is informing about the +30.000 404 errors due to the content created by hackers which is not available anymore. I've been advised to redirect those links to 410 as they might have penalty effects in the SERP I have 50 503 server errors recognised by Google back in April but still there. What should I do to solve them? I still have a lot of traffic from Japan, even if I've removed all the content and ask Googled to disavow spamming backlinks. Do you think I have on page keywords? I don't understand how they can still find me. Those KWs are indexed in analytics, but not effective clicks, as the content is not there anymore. I also asked Google to remove links in search console with the tool removing links but not all of my requests have been accepted. My site disappeared from the organic results even if it hasn't been recognised as hacked in Google (there wasn't any manual actions on the Search Console). What can I do to gain the organic positioning once again? I've just tried to use the “Fetch as Google” option on search console for the entire website. Thank you all and I look forward to your replies. Thanks! Alessia

In the other hand shorter URL also an important factor. Since our site aim to have many pages and destination wise product pages, in order to have shorter URL we avoid to follow the best site structure. in our site a product page do not have the right path to have right architecture, would it hurt our DA ? • I have a single product website running in a one page layout
my web have some internal pages such as, terms and conditions, policies and so on.
But in order to get a better ranking I decided to create a blog in the website, but my IT team told me that we can do it but in a subdomain.
The main domain use cakephp with a configuration oriented to security ( we had bad experiences with normal cms or ecommerces) So the structure of the website will this one www.mystore.com for the ecommerce blog.mystore.com for the blog So my questions are:
How is going to affect my seo?
Is there any difference betwen mystore/blog.com vs blog.mystore.com?
Wich is the best option for Google Analitycs / Search Console a single property or 2 properties? If you know some post or tutorial related with my question will be appreciated Thanks Guys

  • Let's say I have a list of rebates available in either a fixed or percentage based format. I'm looking for the most appropriate schema.org code to use for this, currently using aggregateOffer for the list and referencing the name of each rebate, but search console advises that "lowprice" isn't specified, and I only seem to be able to specify a fixed price in the local currency here. I don't think using "lowprice" is appropriate here because this isn't a list of products with the lowest price, but it's a list of rebates to choose from. Is there anything that is more appropriate to use in this case than aggregateOffer?

  • I had ratings stars appearing on my site and recently started using the sale event schema, but the two won't show up at the same time, so the rating stars have now disappeared and have been replaced by sale event data. When looking around for more info I found the attached example which shows both appearing at the same time - however upon trying to replicate this myself with that same site I can't get both to appear. Does anyone know if it's possible for both schema data properties to appear in the results at the same time? save.png

  • To put you all in context, here is the situation, I have pages that are only accessible via an intern search tool that shows the best results for the request. Let's say i want to see the result on page 2, the page 2 will have a request in the url like this: ?p=2&s=12&lang=1&seed=3688 The situation is that we've disallowed every URL's that contains a "?" in the robots.txt file which means that Google doesn't crawl the page 2,3,4 and so on. If a page is only accessible via page 2, do you think Google will be able to access it? The url of the page is included in the sitemap. Thank you in advance for the help!

  • I remember hearing a few years ago that it was a good practice to link back to a site that was linking to you. My company's site was referenced and linked to in a news article. The news company has an above average domain authority, which is pretty good for my company's backlink profile. Is it still or was ever a "best practice" to link back to this website/domain? I feel like linking back was a best practice, but when I try to search this, all I get back is backlinking 101 and backlinking articles. Nothing really answering my question straight forward. Thanks for any help.

  • Hi guys. We make custom diary products which can start/ end anytime, and so we feel they would go down really well in 'Back to School' type posts this year.  (Website here) I've been looking for examples of 'Back to School' content, but with it being retrospective there is no guarantee a publisher would do a similar thing again this year. My question is this: What are the best ways to find our about upcoming** content** that relates to a specific niche? (In this case Academic year Planner products) What tools, research methodologies, platforms, websites would be useful? In other words, how do we 'get in the right place at the right time'... in front of people 'warm' to the idea in the first place? I appreciate this is a very broad question (albeit a in a very specific context)... but any insight/ advice would be greatly appreciated. Hope that all makes sense.

  • Hi there, We understand that hreflang tagging can be incorporated into an existing XML sitemap. That said, is there any inherent issue with having two sitemaps - your regular XML sitemap plus an international XML sitemap which lists off many of the same URLs as your original XML sitemap? For example, one of our clients has an XML sitemap file they don't want to have to edit, but we want to implement international hreflang xml sitemaps for them. Can we add an "English" XML sitemap with the proper hreflang tagging even though this new sitemap contains many duplicates as the existing XML sitemap file? Thank you!

  • Hello, I have an ecommerce site with all pages crawled and indexed by Google. But I have some pages with multiple urls like : www.sitename.com/product-name.html and www.sitename.com/category/product-name.html There is a canonical on all these pages linking to the simplest url (so Google index only one page). So the multiple pages are not indexed, but Google still comes crawling them. My question is : Did I have any interest in avoiding Google to crawl these pages or not ? My point is that Google crawl around 1500 pages a day on my site, but there are only 800 real pages and they are all indexed on Google. There is no particular issue, so is it interesting to make it change ? Thanks
