  • Hi I've always used schema mark up in previous companies, however product pages on the site I'm currently working on are in data vocab. I cant find much about data vocab, so is it best to move away from this? I need to update the mark up on our product pages - so want the best mark up for this Thank you

  • As we are a classified ads site, our ads expire after some time,and we redirect 301 the ad post page to the parent category And images urls in the ad page is redirected to, so they are not getting index in google image..what is the best solution for getting image index in this situation: 301 redirect images Keep images And so more?

  • Hello, Since 2 weeks, our website is losing positions in Google. After years on the first page, we dropped for our main keyword to the 3rd page. Seems that all the positions we lost, were ranking with the homepage. Now, we are on the 3rd page but with a less important page. How is it possible that only the homepage disappeared? Is there any explanation for that? I hope there is an explanation, so we can fix the trouble. Kind regards, Tine

  • Anyone familiar with Shopify will understand the problems of their directory structure. Every time you add a product to a 'collection' it essentially creates a duplicate. For example... https://www.domain.com/products/product-slim-regular-bikini may also appear as: https://www.domain.com/collections/all/products/product-slim-regular-bikini https://www.domain.com/collections/new-arrivals/products/product-slim-regular-bikini https://www.domain.com/collections/bikinis/products/product-slim-regular-bikini etc, etc It's not uncommon to have up to six duplicates of each product. So my question is twofold: Firstly, should I worry about this from an SEO point of view? I understand the desire to minimise potential duplicate content issues and also in focussing the 'juice' on just one page per product. But I also planned on trying to build the authority of the collection pages. If I request Google not to index the product pages which link off the collections, does this not devalue these collections pages? Secondly, I understand the correct way to fix these is using 'rel canonical' tags, but I'm not clear about HOW to actually do this. Shopify support has not been very helpful. They have provided two different instructions, so just added to the confusion (see below). Shopify instruction #1: Add the following to the theme.liquid file... <title><br />{{ page_title }}{% if current_tags %} – tagged "{{ current_tags | join: ', ' }}"{% endif %}{% if current_page != 1 %} – Page {{ current_page }}{% endif %}{% unless page_title contains shop.name %} – {{ shop.name }}{% endunless %}<br /></title>

  • Hi Guys, This one is freakin' me out a little. We built my site and optimised it fairly well, especially on this page: http://snowdog.se/dogsledding/ where I am trying to rank for search term "dog sledding in lapland" now I receive a 95 rating for optimisation, I cant see anything wrong with it. We have a sitemap all seems well enough in the Google search console data but heck!!, we have submitted it to major engines but I have zero percent visibility. Can anyone see what's going on here?   • What is the best way to use articles from a "thought leader" to build high-quality links to my website? I have heard that it is possible to pay bloggers to post business articles that link back to a website. That assuming these blogs have domain authority this is a good technique to improve ranking. Is this in fact true, and if so where would I find blogs to post our content. The purpose would be to promote real estate brokerage website. Any suggestions? Is this possible, advisable, best use of quality content? Alternatively, where else can we post engaging content to create links back to our site? Social media?   • Hello the great Moz Community! Gev here from BetConstruct, a leading gaming and betting software provider in the world. Our company website is performing great on SERP. We have 20+ different dedicated pages for our 20+ softwares, event section, different landing pages for different purposes. We also run a blog section, Press section, and more... Our website's default language is EN. 4 months ago we opened the /ru and /es versions of the website! I have set the correct hreflang tags, redirects, etc.. generated correct sitemaps, so the translated versions started to rank normally! Now our marketing team is requesting different stuff to be done on the website and I would love to discuss this with you before implementing! There are different cases! For example: They have created a landing page under a url betconstruct.com/usa-home and want me to set that page as the default website page(ie homepage), if the user visits our website from a US based IP. This can be done in 2 different ways: I can set the /usa-home page as default in my CMS, in case the visitor is from US and the address will be just betconstruct.com(without /use-home). In this case the same URL (betconstruct.com) will serve different content for only homepage. I can check the visitor IP, if he is from US, I can redirect him to betconstruct.com/usa-home. In this case user can click on the logo and go to the homepage betconstruct.com and see the original homepage. Both of the cases seems to be dangerous, because in the 1st case I am not sure what google will think when he sees different homepage from different IPs. And in the 2nd case I am not sure what should be that redirection. Is it 301 or 303, 302, etc... Because Google will think I don't have a homepage and my homepage redirects to a secondary page like /usa-home After digging a lot I realised that my team is requesting from me a strange case. Because the want both language targeting(/es, /ru) and country targeting (should ideally be like /us), but instead of creating /us, they want it to be instead of /en(only for USA) Please let me know what will be the best way to implement this? Should we create a separate version of our website for USA under a /us/* URLs? In this case, is it ok to have /en as a language version and /us as a country targeting? What hreflangs to use? I know this is a rare case and it will be difficult for you to understand this case, but any help will be much appreciated! Thank you! Best,

  • Hi Moz community, My Moz Pro writes 555 duplicate content errors, when i click on the page address to check witch page duplicate, it gives me the same page address without WWW. http://www.domain.com/page Duplicated: http://domain.com/page The first thing i checked is my .Htaccess file.. , I found out i have a www redirection that redirect everyone without the "www" to the full domain with the "www" - and it works perfectly on the browser. The code that redirect: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.

  • Hello everyone, All of a sudden a 2 year old redirected domain is replacing my current domain for 2 weeks now, my site is apitus.com and my old domain is aptitus.pe (the redirect is still working), however this only happens on my country google results (google.com.pe), if you check my site on google.com, everything looks ok even with a sitelink, which I no longer have on my country search results. Back to the issue, the first thing I thought was go to Search Console and take it out from the index, so I asked for access by uploading a file but since everything on that old site redirects to my current site I can't make such action.   • I am in the process of restructuring a clients site who offers two niches. One is an event venue and the other is private dining. We have struggled in the past with ranking for either one since google sees restaurant and event venue as two distinct businesses. So on the homepage I would like to essentially 'divide' the site into two sections - Weddings and events, and Dining. From there people can choose which part of the website they would be directed to. (There are other things we will do as well, like up content etc. but this is the start) So my question is this - from an SEO standpoint should I do away with a menu on the home page and only have two links there and have the site hierarchy go down from there, does this give more 'juice' to the two categories? or will it hurt the site since there is no about, contact, etc page link on the home page? thanks for any opinions on this!

  • Hi, folks. Our company operates over 50 disease-specific, nice websites. Currently, we're building resource/landing pages for some therapies and other related topics. One experimental therapy is being investigated across four different disease types: cystic fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Hemophilia, and cancers. We have sites for all of them, and have created original landing pages for each site. Question: is it safe / does it make sense to "link wheel" these pages, especially since the wheel is composed of all our own sites? The other option of course is to simply interlink all of them, but will I get more visibility with a cyclical linking scheme? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks!

  • Dear Moz community, We have made a great mistake.  Looking at keyword search volumes somehow Moz showed volumes for two keywords which only differentiate by an  '**s (plural) as same. **Now we optimized our internal links (all links have the keyword) for the singular word. Now looking at other search volume estimations from competitors we see, that the plural has 5 times bigger volume. Our issue: If we change some of the category links now to another keyword, we will loose our ranking with the singular word. Correct? If we do not change any of our internal links, we will never rank in top 6 with the keyword. (currently singular is 6 and plural is 15) What would you reccomend?

  • Hi Guys. I am running a cleanup for the on page schema we use and will be moving the on page elements into tag manager. I have all the metas and schema for the products boxed off. My question today is what schema should I use for category pages. Granted there is Json-LD for aggregated reviews but I cant see or work out how or what to use for the category pages that have the lists of products on. Any assistance appreciated. Alex

  • Hello! I was running an exercise to investigate the market around the main keyword "Retail recruitment" just for the US. Looking for key competitors, I've found one of them blocking traffic from any other sources but USA. When you try to access that site from any other country it returns a 403 error code. I think the only reason for doing this is to avoid big companies globally based to actually find them or study them in order to compete. The URL I'm talking about is http://www.c2recruitment.com/... What do you think? Would be another reason to do so? I also wonder if they are doing that just to avoid undesired traffic in general as it's a kind of market with high amount of impressions but low CTR. Third theory is that there's some SEO black-magic-for-local-seo-trick I'm missing. Any thoughts?

Some days later, all the countries are just indexing / (the root). I correctly set the subfolders in Webmaster tools. What's happening? Thanks

  • HI We've seen a huge drop paid campaigns for impressions on brand terms YOY - 37,140 vs. 792. Our impression share is still high. Organic is higher this year for impressions also. An agency manage created the campaigns for us and can't seem to find a reason, but the drop is huge - it seems like it's just people not searching but we haven't seen this in organic - could it be organic showing instead of paid ads for brand terms? Paid is fairly new to me, so just doing some fact finding Thanks!

  • Hi, I've been involved in a major ecommerce site relaunch, redesign and backend and have been involved in several successful ones before. On the whole things have gone great. Of course there are some minor bugs to fix, rendering issues etc but my real concern is a significant decline in conversion rate BUT only for IE and Edge users. All other major browsers conv rate has increased. Trawling through analytics and the site itself in those browsers there is no obvious sticking points e.g bounce rate has improved on all browser inc IE & Edge, no particular point in the funnel is suffering more than others, no particular page or landing page is doing much worse than others etc. it just seems like all the kpi's (except bounce) are down a little on the 2 microsoft browsers, which has a significant impact. One of the things that changed on relaunch is that we moved to https and im wondering if that might be causing an issue with IE / Edge security or privacy settings or that functionality on the site that relies on cookies is being affected, though in testing we haven't come across anything.   • Our site migrated to https a year ago but when I ran the Top Pages report, it's listing only http URLs. 1.  Why is it only listing http URLs? 2.  I'm interested to see which ones  301 redirects to https and which are 200.  How can I do this? Thanks!

  • Hey Guys, We’re in the process of transitioning our key traffic generating pages on our website from m. to responsive. Today, our site uses Google’s ‘Separate URLs’ method. Rel alternate on desktop pages to m. pages 302 redirects pushing mobile visitors to m. pages Canonical on m. pages back to desktop pages As we make the transition to responsive we’ll be taking the following steps: Removal of 302 redirects pushing mobile visitors to m. pages 301 redirects from m. pages to desktop pages With those changes in mind, I’d love to get the communities opinion on how to best handle the real alternate attribute on desktop pages. I'm considering leaving the rel alternate attribute in place on desktop pages for 30-90 days so that search engines continue to see the alternate version without the 302 redirects in place, crawl it, and as a result discover the 301 redirects more readily. If we remove the 302 redirects as well as the rel alternate, then my feeling is that search engines would just index the responsive page accordingly and be less likely to catch the 301 redirects pointing from the m. pages and make the transition of mobile pages in search indices take longer than necessary. Ultimately, I'm probably splitting hairs and getting a bit nuanced because I believe things will work themselves out whether we leave the rel alternate or remove it but I thought it would be great to get any opinions or thoughts from community members that have made a similar transition.   • I typically see browsers refresh at 48 hours the longest. We pushed some changes through production about a week ago and Chrome still has the old version cached. I'm seeing some similar posts and wonder if Google is up to something and we are starting to "cache" on (pun intended)?

  • Hi Guys Just seeking some advise.  We know Google is very keen about site speed and the one of the best ways to manage this is to cache images use CDNs etc.. However what I am finding is that we have rapid site speed but any new updates take a few refreshes or we have to wait for the ISP to clear their DNS for the updates to show. I have put the meta tag for non-caching and on cPanel I have developer mode active on the caching sessions which in theory will not store anything in the cache for 6 hours. Does anyone know of anything else which can force a wordpress site on an update or image/post/page or datasbase for the browser to be flushed? I think possibly this will only be good as other users browsers may have similar issues.

  • Howdy, Here's a situation I got myself into. For the past few months, I've been planning to start up an e-commerce business. I've got my homework done - created product design, wrote value-adding product descriptions and a few regular blog posts in order to start providing content right away. Recently, I've got some news that the product I was about to sell won't be arriving for at least a month longer. Here's what I am considering: In order to make the start of the business smoother and gain attention quicker, it would make sense to start building a presence in advance. What I am considering now is instead of using the product descriptions I have for their original purpose, I could make them into a handful of blog posts with WordPress. I am relatively sure that with proper promotion, people would find them interesting, as they answer common industry questions in a unique, entertaining way. However, I am not sure what implications would such move have for my business in the longer term, especially when it actually starts selling products. I would switch to the Shopify platform, which would probably mean I would have to transfer my blog posts onto another platform? Maybe I should just wait till I have all my products ready and stick with the plan, instead of using the content I have for the blog right now? If I should indeed go through with the blog first, what content would I later put in the product descriptions and what are the possible SEO consequences? I hope it is at least somewhat clear what my situation is. Thank you in advance for the help.

  • I find that the advice for multi-language sites is always tied with multi-region, but what about US only sites that want to be multi-lingual? What are the best practice recommendations there? HREFLANG tags necessary? TLDs? Do you need to purchase yoursite.us , yoursite.sp , etc.. or would yoursite.com/en yoursite.com/sp suffice? Should the extensions be region based even if the language is the only difference?

  • Looking for some advice 🙂 I have a domain that has been registered since 1999 and currently hosts my website - the problem is that my business has moved in a different direction and my URL is no longer associated with my main product offering.   • Question on the exact definition / relationship between the summary of your rankings in the top 50 and the number of keywords that have moved up or down for your selected time frame. To me, I would expect the number of keywords that have moved up (or down) to be more than the sum of any upward movement for the top 50 For example, if it says we had (7) keywords that moved up to 1-3 and (5) moved up to 21-50 and then to the right of that it tells me we have had 5 keywords move up - what does that mean

  • I was putting a URL into a Google Spreadsheet and wanted to link to the url. The domain is a .legal domain and when I put it in I got instant search suggestions for a VF-Law.com (different firm in different state) but nothing showed for the .legal domain. I believe the site has only been up a few months but it is indexed in Google. I wondered if there is an issue with these newer domain extensions and Instant Search? Thoughts?   • There is an old version of http://chesapeakeregional.com still floating around the web here: http://www.dev3.com.php53-24.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com/component/content/category/20-our-services. Various iterations of this domain pop up when I do certain site:searches and for some queries as well (such as "Diagnostic Center of Chesapeake"). About 3 months ago the websitetestlink site had files and a fully functional navigation but now it mostly returns 404 or 500 errors. I'd like to redirect the site to our newer site, but don't believe I can do that in chesapeakeregional.com's .htaccess file. Is that so and would I need access to the websitetestlink .htaccess to forward the domain? Note* I (nor anyone else in our organization) has the login for the old site. The new site went live about 9 months before I arrived at the organization and I've been slowly putting the pieces together since arriving.

  • We have a WordPress instance on an Apache subdomain (let's say it's blog.website.com) alongside our main website, which is built in Angular.  The tech team is using Akamai to do URL rewrites so that the blog posts appear under the main domain (website.com/more-keywords/here).  However, due to the way they configured the WordPress install, they can't do a wildcard redirect under htaccess to force all the subdomain URLs to appear as subdirectories, so as you might have guessed, we're dealing with duplicate content issues. They could in theory do manual 301s for each blog post, but that's laborious and a real hassle given our IT structure (we're a financial services firm, so lots of bureaucracy and regulation).  In addition, due to internal limitations (they seem mostly political in nature), a robots.txt file is out of the question. I'm thinking the next best alternative is the combined use of the robots meta tag (no index, follow) alongside the canonical tag to try to point the bot to the subdirectory URLs.  I don't think this would be unethical use of either feature, but I'm trying to figure out if the two would conflict in some way?  Or maybe there's a better approach with which we're unfamiliar or that we haven't considered?

  • Here I go with a situation: You have an isolated PDF hosted in your domain, the PDF has none internal backlinks (neither links to another page on the domain) but has a really good external backlink from a domain with high authority. Do you think that the backlink has influence on the global domain authority and the domain rankings? Thanks!
