Shopify SEO - Collection or Blog post for ecomm seo?
-
Hi Moz folks, would love your thoughts on benefits of Shopify collection pages v blog posts for ranking secondary shopping keywords not suitable for existing shop pages - all help gratefully received, we are going down a rabbit hole on this one and need some sanity!
So, we’re updating our site which already has a reasonable seo foundation and are looking to rank better for key shopping search keywords in our space (d2c sports nutrition).
My question is should we prioritise store collection pages (category pages in Shopify terms) or blog posts for some of the main keywords not already covered by our core in-store collections/categories?
Priority keywords already covered are things like protein powders, protein bars, energy drinks, etc.
As context, we have a small product catalogue (10 products) and for easy navigation on site have these grouped into 7 collections/categories in the main menu and available from the homepage. All are quality high volume and high intent shopping keywords for our business.
The secondary terms we are now looking to add content for are things like marathon nutrition, vegan sports nutrition, etc so now need to choose if we create product collection pages for these, or use blog posts to do the work.
The advantage of collections, we believe, is that Google is likely to prioritise these in search. The disadvantage from a UX point of view is that more categories in store could make our simple and clear product range (10 products only) look complex or repetitive.
Conversely, a blog post removes any UX confusion with too many categories, but we have a conversion rate issue with our blog. It performs well in search, but conversions are poor. We have addressed this with a new keyword targeting strategy and blog customisation, but we have yet to test this so while in theory it should work well, we do not know for certain.
In summary: we want to rank key shopping keywords beyond our core ones we have - would you advise we use blog posts or product collection pages?
All help gratefully received - thanks!
Warren

My posts have vanished from Serps What Should I do
I was using the Yoast plugin and for more than ten years and my keywords were always in the top twenty with many in the top five. I then moved over to rank math plugin and things were fine. Then i saw all my posts and pages go our of serps with not a single page in seps. I looked at the plugin and saw that it was still working fine but my subscription ran out two months previous. none of my brand news articles appear in serps. All my posts are indexed but not one of them in serps and not one of my keywords are ranked. Can anyone please let me know what to do to solve this

Who is correct - please help!
I have a website with a lot of product pages - often thousands of pages. As each of these pages is for a specific lease car they are often only fractionally different from other pages. The urls are too long, the H1 is often too long and the Title is often too long for "SEO best practice". And they do create duplication issues according to MOZ. Some people tell me to change them to noindex/nofollow whilst others tell me to leave them as they are as best not to hide from google crawler. Any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks for listening.

Hi there SEO agency owners
Hi, we are slightly baffled. We have amazing backlinks and good on-site SEO, yet we don’t rank on the first page for our main keyword, “SEO Cardiff.” Now we can't understand why we are not on page one of Google for this keyword? Can someone have a look at our site and tell us why? We think we have better backlinks than some of our direct competitors that rank for this term.

Premium domain name redirects
Hi, I run a tree surgery business - woodfeldertreecare.co.uk We're based in Manchester, UK. A few days ago I was called by Premium Domain Names who convinced me that buying treesurgeonsmanchester.com and treesurgerymanchester.com and redirecting them to our main site would be amazing for organic traffic. My designer and an SEO friend both reckon this was a waste of money and reckon I've been scammed. Any thoughts? Please help.

Requiring customer agree to shipping terms at checkout
I work for an ecommerce company that has many of its shipments go by LTL freight. Our customer service team has issues with a few customers per month that aren't equipped to receive freight shipments which leads to returns and other issues. In an effort to better inform our customers, the customer service team is requesting that we add a checkbox to the checkout that requires customers to agree to our shipping and returns policy, including a link to the policy page. I am wondering how concerned people here would be that requiring the customer to check a box agreeing to those terms would lead to more customers abandoning during the checkout process. Or do you think it's not a concern? Thanks for your thoughts.

When to re-write and redirect a blog url?
What are best practices for rewriting (and then redirecting) blog URLs? I refresh old blog posts on our blog every month and many of them have URLs that are too long or could be improved. However, many of them also already get decent organic traffic and I don't want to lose traffic due to a URL redirect. Are there any best practices or "rules" I can follow when deciding whether to re-write and redirect blog URLs?
