  • Hello and thanks in advance for any help. I'll try to keep this simple. I am about to do some major SEO for our Law Firm. We have 4 practice areas and I will be focusing on Lemon Law Attorneys for this example. I always try my best to keep it clean, organized and for the user. This one just has me a little confused about which direction to take as its a little more complex. The business is 1 location. The office is in San Diego but we service all of California. CURRENT PAGE STRUCTURE
    .com (home)
    .com/practice-areas/
    .com/practice-areas/lemon-law-attorneys/
    .com/practice-areas/service-two-example/
    .com/practice-areas/service-three-example/
.com/practice-areas/service-four-example/ I did some research and got better keywords (listed below) KEYWORD & SEARCH VOLUME lemon law 40500
    - california lemon law 9900
    - lemon law california 9900
    - lemon law attorney 3600
    - california lemon law attorney 880
    - lemon law attorney san diego 170 It would be nice to rank for both California and San Diego search terms but I'm ok if that's not the right way to do it. These are the options I can think of using Lemon Law Attorney as an example. I'd love to hear what you think would work best and im open to other options. PAGE STRUCTURE (Option A)
    .com/practice-areas/
    .com/practice-areas/lemon-law-attorney-san-diego/ PAGE STRUCTURE (Option B)
    .com/practice-areas/
    .com/practice-areas/california-lemon-law-attorney/
    .com/practice-areas/california-lemon-law-attorney/lemon-law-attorney-san-diego/ PAGE STRUCTURE (Option C)
    .com/lemon-law/
    .com/lemon-law/california-lemon-law-attorney/
    .com/lemon-law/california-lemon-law-attorney/lemon-law-attorney-san-diego/ PAGE STRUCTURE (Option D)
    .com/lemon-law/
    .com/lemon-law/california/
    .com/lemon-law/california/san-diego/ PAGE STRUCTURE (Option E)
    .com/lemon-law-attorney/
    .com/lemon-law-attorney/california/
.com/lemon-law-attorney/california/san-diego/ The biggest problem I see if having to make unique Lemon Law content for both California and San Diego Lemon Law Attorney pages. I dont want the site to look spammy to the end user. At the same time I want to make sure im setting myself up for success from the start. Thank you,
    Chris

  • The site in question uses Wordpress. They have a Resources section that is broken into two categories (A or B). Underneath each of these categories is 5 or 6 subcategories. The structure looks like this: /p/main-category-a/subcategory/blog-post-name /p/main-category-b/subcategory/blog-post-name All posts have a main category, but other posts often have multiple subcategories while some posts also fall into both main categories. What would be the easiest or most effective way to auto-populate the breadcrumb based on from where the person reached the blog post? So for example, a way to set Home -> Main Category -> Subcategory 1 as the breadcrumb if they reach it from the Subcategory 1 landing page. Or is this not possible and we should just set the breadcrumb manually based on where we feel it best lives? Thanks.

  • Yesterday, we uploaded a new campaign but it appears it has 0% of visibility and no keywords ranking. What might be the problem? The website has a domain authority of 39 and 500 visits in the last week. But according to the Moz campaign they don't even rank for the name.

  • When you have a lot of keywords that you rank for say something like 15,000 or more. How do you develop a good back link plan? I was thinking to first look at the highest volume keywords we already rank for but aren't in the top 1-3 spots. To focus on those few words trying to obtain more high quality back links. But I'm not sure if this is the best plan . What would you do? What are some good consistent back link plans you can use to work on a keyword or lots of keywords? Thanks for the discussion, Chris

  • Hey, I work for a company that owns 5 brands, all pretty large sites with 10,000s of pages. We have one primary site, that has inbound links from all the other owned sites (4) resulting in 950k backlinks pointing to the domain. For context, the primary domain has 781 referring domains (with 4 of them being the other owned sites). My question was, will this excess of linking be harming the primary domain? Will the ration of backlinks to referring domains be seen as a negative quality indicator? Charlie

  • I used Rank Tracker to evaluate a specific site for "geofencing software" - the result was "not in the top 50." However, if I go to Keyword SERP analysis and put in the same keyword "geofencing software," it shows the specific site within the first page results in SERP. I verified the ranking with a google search of my own and the site does show in the first page results. Why is Rank Tracker not matching Keyword SERP results?

  • We have a site in English. We are considering translating the site into Dutch. If we use a hreflang attribute does that mean we have to create a duplicate page in Dutch for each English page, or does Google auto-translate?  How would duplicate pages, even if they are in a different language, affect ranking?

  • Let me give me you an example. For example for the keyword title tag (let's imagine) I would want to rank on that. I go to the keyword explorer or related searches at the bottom of google there are many questions people have.. I find expressions (with the same user intent)  such as "title tag length", "title tags generator", " "why are title tag importants" (I found this one using the are questions drop down menu of the keyword explorer). With this in hand I can create a page where I answer all those questions. I would have all those expressions being an H2 and answer the questions using related phrases and context word that I will find with the keyword explorer in my paragraph below. Let now take one of my keyword "Sicily bike tours". If I type this expression int he keyword explorer...the only related phrases (with the same user intent) that I find are "Sicily bike tour", "Sicily cycling tours", "Sicily bike trips"... (first thing I noticed is that it is just variation of my main expression not really question...). If I look at questions I find "what is the highest elevation in Sicily" or "How safe is Sicily for tourists". I don't imagine on a page that sells bikes tours in Sicily having h2 tags that answers those questions...  and this is not what people that rank do, they describe their tour and this is what is confusing to me. Let's now take a secondary related keyword to main keyword. Let' s take "Sicily cycling tours" (it is a secondary related keyword to "Sicily bike tours". Based on the keyword explorer, the secondary related phrases to "Sicily cycling tours" are "tour of Sicily". "trips to Sicily".... ( isn't that going to be boring and look unnatural to use all those expressions ? ). There are all synonyms of my expression but not really different which is my worry ? Or can I use an expression such as "Sicilian villages" or "Sicily maps" even though they don't have the same user intent) as  my secondary related keyword "Sicily cycling tours". Thank you,

  • You know those pages that you really need to have for your site that most people get to through the nav bar or maybe internal linking, but never through organic search? The ones where you can't find any applicable keywords with volume or even just a keyword with no volume data that just shows up in the Google autocomplete or People Also Search For. What's the better option? just not optimize the page for any keywords at all, but have Title Tag/Meta Description optimized for CTR just in case OR optimize the page for a very loosely applicable keyword even though it's a a bit of stretch or longshot

  • Hi everyone. I'm new here so apologies if I'm not asking an appropriate question - just let me know! Can anyone help me figure out why my blog (https://www.jamescrowley.net/) isn't ranking at all for my name? I've run it through the standard Moz audit tools and it hasn't picked up any major issues. It ranks fine for my name plus " CTO", but doesn't appear anywhere in the top 50 without that qualifier. I realise there are many other 'James Crowley's to compete with but weirdly even my GitHub profile page appears to rank higher (https://github.com/jamescrowley) I moved the domain a while back (18 months+) and I used to rank highly, but it never seems to have recovered (all the standard redirects are in place, and told Google at the time about the move). Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

  • Hi MOZ community! Need a little help with a strange issue we are seeing of late on our project CareerAddict.com. We have seen a sudden and significant drop in image visibility in Search Console from the 27th August onwards. I understand that Google has been updating their filters and other bits in image search, so maybe this could have impacted us? I also noticed that the images which are mapped to our articles are not the full featured article 700px wide images which we provide to Google in the Structured Data. They are instead taking the OG share 450px wide images now on many occasions. You can see this by searching for "careeraddict.com" in images. Any insight or suggestions welcome on both of these. Interested to understand if any other webmasters are experiencing other or similar problems with image visibility in Google also. Thanks!

  • Hi all, Does anyone know if there's anywhere where I can see what keywords are used in search engines to land on a specific page? I have access to the Google Analytics account and linked it to Moz as a campaign, but I can't find this data. I'm curious about this because a very uncommon word is used in a page title for a page I try to optimize. It's the Dutch translation of 'malicious'. And now I wonder if it's better to switch to a word that's used more often. Or if it's better to 'win the battle' on this (probably) rarely used word. I've used Google trends to see how many people use it, but it says there's not enough data to show the interest over time.

  • Does owning / buying an exact domain match help or not necessary? For example our main website ranks for nearly 14,800 Keywords but one KW we are trying to get in the top spot for we are currently at the bottom of page #1. We do see an exact domain match available so we purchased it but i don't know if it would actually help us or distract us. I was thinking we could create an article about the keyword on that exact domain then do some on page seo and back linking. But would that be more of a distraction VS. just focusing on getting more high quality back links to the main website we have ranked on Page 1 at the bottom? Any ideas or benefits to use an exact domain match to help boost also?

  • Hello, I looked through the forum but couldn't find an answer so here is my question: A client have 2 subfolders that are selling the same things for example Furnitures, Office Furniture, Bedroom Furniture, etc. The website looks like this : www.website.com/subfolder1/ www.website.com/subfolder2/ But it's like 2 diferents brand, just that it sells the same kind of product. The company wants to put evereything in subfolder1 and stop the subfolder2, which mean stop the second brand. But the thing is that right now the subfolder2 have better positions in SEO than subfolder1 for most of the Keywords. How could I make all the internet traffic goes from the subfolder2 to the subfolder1 ?
A 301 redirection could do the trick ? In addition of improving the SEO (Title, H1, Meta, etc) of the subfolder1 ? Thanks for your help.

  • [Insert word "hack" if you prefer that, but it's so overused that I'm using "trick" instead] I've been doing SEO for ten years, and I'm pretty good at covering my bases. For the client I'm seeking help with, here's what we're doing: strong and regular onsite keyword optimized content (both long tail and competitive keyphrases), good local SEO, high-quality guest posting on relevant local news sites and blogs, heavy community involvement and support, scholarships and sponsorships, lots of videos, all the social media, tons of competitive research and link building, ongoing website architecture analysis and tweaking, a systematized process for getting reviews, onsite chat, Google Search Ads, etc. This client has been around for years  in a very competitive industry in a medium-sized American city. We do alright in the local pack for certain search terms, but overall his rankings are not good. For anyone who works in a super competitive industry, do you have any tricks you'd be willing to share? I don't want to steal your secrets, but I could use some advice. Thank you!

  • Hi Everyone, I was wondering what Google thinks about having a subfolder/subdirectory with a different design than the root domain. So let's say we have MacroCorp Inc. which has been around for decades. MacroCorp has tens of thousands of backlinks and a couple thousand referring domains from quality sites in its industry and news sites. MacroCorp Inc. spins off one of its products into a new company called MicroCorp Inc., which makes CoolProduct. The new website for this company is CoolProduct.MacroCorp.com (a subdomain) which has very few backlinks and referring domains. To help MicroCorp rank better, both companies agree to place the MicroCorp content at MacroCorp.com/CoolProduct/. The root domain (MacroCorp.com) links to the subfolder from its navigation and MicroCorp does the same, but the MacroCorp.com/CoolProduct/ subfolder has an entirely different design than the root domain. Will MacroCorp.com/CoolProduct/ be crawled, indexed, and rank better as both companies think it would? Or would Google still treat the subfolder like a subdomain or even a separate root domain in this case? Are there any studies, documentation, or links to good or bad examples of this practice? When LinkedIn purchased Lynda.com, for instance, what if they kept the https://www.lynda.com/ design as is and placed it at https://www.linkedin.com/learning/. Would the pre-purchase (yellow/black design) https://www.linkedin.com/learning/ rank any worse than it does now with the root domain (LinkedIn) aligned design? Thanks! Andy

  • We have a potential client who operates a jobs board in a niche sector in the UK. They want to start a blog but don't want to set it up on the same server as the main jobs site. Discussion started around Wordpress, and their preference is for the WP.com hosted version in a directory or subdomain of the TLD. Our concerns are around the different locations of the two sites (impact of two diff server locations and IP addresses?) but also the limitation of WP.com to interlink the two sites enough that they provide a decent customer experience. Thoughts, musings, advice - all welcome! Tks

  • Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me suss out what I'm missing here. There are two issues that have me pretty confused. #1: Ubersuggest is correctly indicated a ranking for this web page while it's not mentioned anywhere in Moz as a ranking keyword. #2: The page is ranking at #5 on page 1 for this search term and beating out the likes of rollingstone.com and other 90+ DA and 50+ PA results while only having a PA 15 and DA 22. My concern here is that I'm missing out on other rankings that might actually be attainable.

  • All of our URLs in Google My Business are tagged with ?utm_source=gmb. This way when people click on it within a Google Map listing, knowledge graph, etc we know it came from there. I'm assuming using a canonical on all ?_utm_source _pages (we have others, including some in the index) won't cause any problems with this, correct? Since they're not technically traditional organic SERPs? Dumb question I know, but better safe than sorry. Thanks.

  • Hi, I ran a crawl test on our website and it came back with 900 5xx potential errors. When I started opening these links 1 by 1 I could see they were actually working. So i exported the full list of 900 and went to the website: https://httpstatus.io/ pasted the links by 100 and used that. They came back with status codes of  301 / 301 / 200 which i believe means they are okay. After reading it says that my programmer may need to see if we are blocking the MOZ BOT or to slow the MOZ BOT down. I guess I'm wondering if this is not done is the site actually having these 5xx errors when Google is Crawling or is it just showing 900 errors because of MOZ BOT but actually things are okay? I know the simple answer is to get the programmer to fix the MOZ BOT issue to know for sure but getting programmers to do things take a lot of time so I'm trying to get a better idea here. Thanks for your input.

I have recently created a very similar selling the same products but solely to the US with a .US domain name. • Hi all, There is something difficult to trace that is causing duplicate content that is related to categories and tags i.e. https://example.com/contact Associated Pages https://example.com/tags/business https://example.com/taxonomy/term/41 example 2 https://example.com/category/example-category-1 Associated Pages https://example.com/category/occupiers-liability example 3 https://example.com/tags/test https://example.com/tags/test-2 Above two pages display same content (maybe due to similar posts feature) My question here is: Is this caused by Drupal website misconfiguration (or one of its modules) since website uses similar posts feature or it's something else. Duplicate content for example.com/index.php issue has been solved by redirects. Should something similar be done in case of tags / categories? Any discussion / suggestions on that matter are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
